Yum - I can rummage around in the fridge and eat lunch for breakfast! Thanx CW!

Willy - I wouldn't wrap my garbage in that old carpet! Ugh....Let's just say it has lots of history and not all of it was good.

Driver has tendency to pack rat - I am down to about 5 items of any importance and worth in "heirlooms". (Dust collectors) Even thinking about giving away some furniture (set your glass on the floor, honey - I gave away all the end tables!)

Hot weather coming to your living area.

Anyone around the Toronto area? There is some very good news in the world. Not much, but we will take what we can get.

Good morning all! Willy, you must be in a tie with Mutt for the All-time Pack
Rat award: Didn't think anyone could beat Mutt!! He doesn't throw out any-
thing[:(]

Breakfast is now being served: all the regular menu items: sausage,
biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, cold cereal, cantalope, watermelon.

Lunch today will be in the cooler for everyone: I have to go for a medical
checkup today, so have made lots and lots of sandwiches for everyone
for lunch. My appt. is at 10:40, but you know how dr. appts. go: I may
still be in there at lunchtime. So I've prepared sandwiches for lunch
today. There will be plenty of potato chips for everyone, too. And there
will be tomatoes, onion slices, lettuce, etc. in the cooler for you sandwiches.

Everyone have a safe day, and stay as cool as possible.

Evening all!
CW and Mutt, so sorry to hear about your loss. They are members of the family. Don't know what I'll do when Harley (the wonder mutt) decides she's had enough. Sometimes I think she's going to outlive me. She too is the trainroom partner. She thinks she's the boss in the trainroom so I just go along with it to make her happy. Most of the time she just lays next to the bench and sleeps. I put her up on stool one time and let her watch trains. After about 15 seconds she just turned around and looked at me. You could almost read the cartoon balloon above her head " This is what you do up here? I thought there was food up here" Then she hopped down and assumed her position of command.
The chicken and dumplings are scrumptious!!!!! [bow]
Mook, could that old carpet be put to use in the trainroom? I am the worlds biggest packrat. I hate to throw anything away. I always have plans that I could "use that for something" That's why Mama hates when I go to an auction without her. I come home with a pickup load of (what I think) are usable items that Mama has a four letter word for.
Sarah, are you a Phillies fan? If you are, your boys missed a chance tonight. Was screaming at TV in the ninth inning. Dempster is not my favorite closer.
Jay, and the rest of the Wisconsonites, dont know if you're into RR memorabilia, but if you are there is a big auction coming up in Wisconsin. Here is the website. Make sure you take your wallet, everytime I go to one of these it usually costs me a grand.
www.gavinbros.com/auctions/parkhurst.html Lots of lanterns and stuff.
Well, am getting tired and it looks slow in here, so will drop in tomorrow. Willy [zzz]

Good news--the hobby shop in Elmhurst is hiring in their Train Department, for an upcoming expansion. In fact, the Train Department will be moving next door, to its own building! Don't know what their job requirements are, but I'd be thinking about it if I'd already retired from my current job!

I got a daily paper route when I was 12; kept it until I was 17 (more than doubled the customer count in that time). It was the start of my budding career in the newspaper line of work--I worked in the composing room the summer after my freshman year in college, and as a reporter/proofreader during the rest of my college days. Had I not come down to work for the railroad I might have been editing that paper by now!

Sorry 'twas too hot here for a chicken (and dumpling) dinner--the melon was good (again!), though.

I think I was helping my dad on his farm regularly when I was seven or eight, helped him until I was about 17. I think they started giving me money for that when I was about ten or eleven. I paid for pretty much everything I bought with my money, parents did help out with insurance, but that was about it.

Forcast low of 73 here in Madison tonight, gonna be sticky sleeping tonight.

TrainFreak, thats cool that you got a job with a hobby shop. I wish I could of gotten a job like that I did apply to one hobby shop, I'm sure you've heard of them The Great Train Store. But, unfortunily they were going out of bussness. I also applyed to all the major franchhises (spelling) too like K mart, Wal Mart, McDonld's, Burger King. I was turned down. I was a littl bit ticked off because of it too. I think the main thing that got me was my age.
Locomutt I really do and I mean really do wi***hat they would allow kids to work. Back in the day. (I was seriously born too late). YES some of the things regarding over working kids were wrong but, hay at least they still made some money. I personally was very annoyed over the fact that I had to wait until I was 16 to work I thought that was total BS. I could of been getting social security when I was 12, darn it!! All my life ever since I was little I've always wanted to make my own money, and not be dependent on mom or dad.

Did I hear someone talking about Chicken and Dumblings???? I think I'll have to eat some too!!!!!!!!! Another great food combo. I personally love the fried dumplings that a Chinese resturant only 5 mins from me makes. They also make this sause which is really and I mean really good.

Another day, another cooker........
Finally got out on the shop floor to build trailers today, after going through the mountain of paperwork and safety training. Wasn't too bad in the shop building, untill you get six or seven guys (and gals) inside a trailer. I may be regretting the fact that I took second shift later, but money fixes most problems.[swg] The good news is, once we get out to our regular plants, everything is much more mechanized.

We're supposed to have 30+ mph winds around here tomorrow, that should help keep everything a little cooler, and at leasst circulate air through the shop.

CW, my belated condolences to your loss, we've lost one before, very sad, as I lost my reading partner, although I'm not sure he helped or hindered!!

Chicken and dumplings sounds great, I'll have a plate, please.

Scott,Good Luck on your interview tomorrow;hope all goes well.
If I remember correctly,in most states you HAVE to be at least 16 years of
age to get about any kind of a job. But of course back in the days when I
was growing up;10-12 year old people were working. No, it hasn't been
that many years ago, just feels/seems like it.

I think most of the coperations I applyed at were discriminating against me because I wasn't an adult. This isn't the first time I have done this. As soon as I had turned 14, I was out applying at stores I thought would hire that young. I tried Burger Kind, McDonalds, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, things like that, but didn't get hired at any. I did go for interviews at Wal-Mart and K-Mart, and was about to be hired, when they asked me if I was 16. So, no job there. I then tried at a local model train store. Everytime I was there, I asked, and when Christmas rolled around, I got a job! So, ever since December 10, 2005, I've been working after school and Saturday at Purkeys Toy Trains.

But, we moved last month, so I only work there about once or twice a month, and I am looking for a job closer to my new area. I put in the eight applications today. One store told me I had to be 18, so that leaves my seven chances.

Just an hour or so ago, I was already called by KB Toys, and I have an interview for tomorrow! [:D]

First and Formost

Locomutt and CW I'm really sorry to hear about the loss in your family, Chessie was an awsome kitty. God Bless...

Carl I feel your pain about not being able to go to sleep because of the hott weather. That's basicly how I felt the night of the black out last week. It was way to hott, humid and stuffy in the house. I slept outside, I think you should of done the same last night. It's a good thing your not working today, I wouldn't want you falling asleep in the tower. Anyway, get some sleep. AMG

Everyone: thank you so much for your kind words. I read most of them last
night; just couldn't post anything last night. We both keep looking for her, like
she's hiding somewhere (she was very good at that). The other two cats, Ash-
ley and Sammy Joe, and the dog, Winter, also keep looking for her.

Mookie, thank you for making the quiche this morning.

I'm sitting here by the front door, watching for the people to come sign in for
the produce. No one yet. Usually have someone here at 7 a.m.

Lunch and supper tonight will be chicken & dumplings, one of the new
Banquet Crock Pot dinners. It's pretty good, but not quite like homemade.

This should be post number 8000 to this thread--quite an achievement!

One reason that Pat and I don't have pets is that I would become too attached to them--especially the cats. Mutt and Cher, my heartfelt condolences.

Still 75 degrees here, at two o'clock in the morning. Sarah, if you're curious, it was impossible to fall asleep under these conditions, though I think I'll try again now. AMG

Scott,

Congratulations on another star !!
Sorry I didn't notice sooner.

Pat,most firefighters dislike doing things like that anyway,(especially
on warmer days, with 40-60 pounds of extra equipment on their backs.)
especially since they do that for their job. Hope they catch
that susposed 'puppy' sometime soon, before something else
goes up in flames, that doesn't need too.

Thanks all for the condolences, this kinda has been a hard day for us
as it is with everybody who thinks they own a pet. Three guesses to that one.
There will be a suitable grave marker on the model railroad. She really did
love the trains, and not typical cat, batting cars, etc. as they went by;just very
contented to be there, and around people she knew she could trust.

Joe: Thank You,I guess that will be the better way to go.

Mudchicken: That is a great name, will have to consider that after a long while.
If those people at the Newport News,Va. animal shelter knew what
she would turn out to be,well ,I wouldn't have adopted a cat,or was that the other
way around ? Should have been with me ;on the long trip from Va. to Ky.;with
overnight at White Sulpher Springs.(no not the resort)(I'm sure they would have
made HER feel welcome, but I didn't have THAT much money)

And just as a side note; anybody on the forums that has MOUSE as part of their name,
should breathe a sigh of relief, she was deadly !!!
