And a Tip Top O' Tha Marnin to you all,

Beautifully chilly last night...wonderful sleeping weather! Carl, thanks for the brownie, and welcome to the Diner!

Well, autumnal color has migrated down the mountains, and is starting to head into Denver. Might have to head trackside this weekend and see what I can find. Saw Mookie's future Geep wandering around the yard with the SD40-2 that MC told about. Might have to "hike" out onto the Park Ave Bridge and see if I can scrounge up a shot. How long will first gen stuff roam around the BNSF? Only time will tell, I suppose.

Hope you all have a great weekend here.

TTFN!

CW...just north of you about 140 miles, we had 47 at 6:30 this morning and looks like a nice day forming for us....Sunshine and to be about 60 today. Jen, we've not used any heat inside yet either, but really none has been needed. Have an advantage with our system as we have a thermostat in each room to control the heat..{electric}, so if one room would be a bit chilly just engage the heat in that one room, etc....But none needed yet. It's been an exceptionally nice Sept. and so far Oct. in our area.....In fact, still yard mowing about every 4 days....Almost like summer.

Mookie, we've not gotten down that low yet: our overnight low last night was
low to med 50s. You're right: really good sleeping weather!!

Welcome Carl! I have seen your name at the bottom frequently and so glad you stopped into the diner. Especially with brownies! Put an extra one in my hidey-hole for future reference.

I notice it is getting a little doggie in here. (Mutt and friends) -

Drug out my winter jammies, socks and blanket last nite - no heat in house yet, but down to 31 outside. 62 inside and good sleeping! So off to find a ray of sun and @

CarlHa, [#welcome] to theDepot Diner and Coffee Shop, and thank you very
much for the homemade brownies!

Breakfast this morning: the big ole hardy breakfast is now being served:
turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, grits, cream of wheat, scrambled
eggs, oatmeal, toast, etc. If you go away hungry from here, it's your own
fault; because I cook like my Mama did. There's plenty for an army to eat!!

Lunch today: open faced roast beef, gravy, and mashed taters. (know
Mookie will love that!)

You all have a good day, and I'm going to get started back into my Fall
Cleaning.

Hello everyone. My name is Carl and I'm from Bloomington IL.

I have been reading the forums regularly for quite some time, and have been contented reading and learning. I have learned lots from each of you, and am grateful for everyone's willingness to share their knowledge.

I grew up in Media PA, and have great memories of the varied rail transportation in the area (trolly, subway, and train). Some of the photos in last month's TRAINS had pictures of Media, which really brought back memories.

My grandfather was a conductor for the Illinois Central in Clinton IL, and I remember his taking us to the yard to see his caboose. I can also remember watching to trains when I would visit.

As a young kid I remember meeting my grandmother at the PRR station in Paoli PA when she would come and visit.

I learned that I was a railfan from my father-in-law. As I would visit his house, he had old issues of TRAINS lying around that I found facinating. From that day on I was hooked. Even to this day when I visit them (Elgin IL), he and take time to get out and go "training" along the UP from Geneva IL west to Rochelle.

Most of my railfanning these days is up at Rochelle. Its easy to get to, provides lots of variety on 2 different railroads and the park arrangement is nice. I have met some facinating people up there too.

I'll be leaving some brownies made from scratch for everyone.

Goodnight .[:-^]

Joe, that hot chocolate sounds like a good idea. Had to pull the kitchen
window down, because of the very brisk breeze coming through it.

Think after all the cleaning today, I'll probably be going nighty-night
very shortly: it's all I can do to keep my eyes open, and it's only 8:18.

So everyone have a good evening, and see you in the morning.

Joe, you are so correct: Sunflower, Duchess, Hobo and
our dog, Winter, ARE in charge of dishwashing. Looks like
they all failed us last night/early morning (they must have
decided to take a loooooonnnng break)![}:)] Winter is very
good about being a vacuum cleaner, and dishwasher, all
at the same time. Guess we're going to have to withhold
the pet treats for a couple of days.[:(][:0]

Well Joe, Mutt has never forgotten our anniversay, or my birthday. (Maybe that's
because I always put all that important information on the calendars at the end
of the year, when we get the new calendars). And he's very good about remem-
bering the exact number of years: I'm the one that sometimes gets confused
about the number of years.

Since the weather is to start cooling down tomorrow, and a lot of the area will
be getting rain, we will have a grill out tonight. Here's the menu for tonight:

steak (beef and pork), hamburgers, hotdogs, brats. Will also have baked

Which Pat has a birthday today?

My Pat's birthday is this coming Monday. In honor of her birthday, the Post office will suspend normal mail delivery, and kids will be let out of school all over the state, but I'll still have to work.

She's already gotten her present from me (a week early, but that's because I expected a bigger time lag between ordering and delivery).

Jay, the opposite holds true in our family.

Please don't tell my wife, but we have a small framed snap shot of us just as we were to leave town on our wedding day. The date is on the print. If that picture gets moved, I may be in deep trouble.

I argue that men are geneticly unable to remember important dates. If I need to get birth dates for my client's tax returns, the women will have them from memory 100% of the time. The best I can hope for from the guys is that they have a reference card in their wallet. If it is any consolation, we do remember our own birth date.

It's not that I don't remember the dates (OK, February gives me fits - my late father, my sister and my son all born in the second month), but that I forget to act on them....

Joe - I can remember our anniversary date, but always have to ask the driver "how many years?"

And if I want a gift - I write it on the bathroom mirror - I don't wait for him to either hem-haw around about what I "might" want or possibly forget. I always go right for the throat - no, no - I mean - I just tell him right up front what to get me. Never disappointed, either!

But I am a cheap date and usually just a card is enough...

Ok, so I re-read what I typed and only now realized that I thought Tuesday was Wednesday. Duh. The heat and the kids must be getting to me. Today, drastic cool down. We had our high temp at midnight and will fall from there. High of 55 or something like that tomorrow. I love fall.
That big breakfast sounds great. I'll take pancakes w/ sausage.

Happy B'day Pat - I probably have shoes older than you.

You will notice the frosting on the cake has been "blessed" with a paw print...

CW was in and gone already.

Since I have no clue what to do, I guess I will just sit here and look wise....[alien]

BC - so glad you got to visit with MC and Boss Hen. And just like with Tree, I am so jealous! [^]

Sarah - I will do the grocery shopping if you will clean house. I don't mind doing groceries and washing dishes. Laundry would be ok - if it weren't for lugging things up and down 2 flights of stairs.

Oh - I forgot - I am supposed to just sit and look wise - [alien]

Pat, [bday] today!! Hope it's a very nice day for you.

We'll have a "birthday breakfast for you: pancakes and sausages/turkey bacon
all around for everyone. (We'll pretend it's Saturday morning, instead of Thurs-
day morning. And Pat, come in this evening for your birthday cake.

Lunch today: leftover beef stew w/cornbread.

Dessert today: Since I don't know what flavor cake Pat likes, we'll have one
each of the following cakes: white w/white frosting; chocolate w/chocolate
frosting, and yellow w/half white/half chocolate frosting.

Evening/morning all.

Came in a little while ago, noticed a stack of dirty dishes and decided to do them quick while heating up what I found for dinner. I bused tables and was a dishwasher for a few years in high school, no big deal.

I've come to the conclusion that UPS likes to make their trailers very complicated, after putting in folding decking for the last three days. Even with sharp bits (and we had plenty of them), it still takes two guys about 45 minutes to drill for the brackets that go in, all going through an 1/8 inch steel plate. I'm just glad it's not stainless I'm drilling through.

CShaveRR, just tell the Mudchicken family not to look at the WSOR tracks they pass over unless they want to have a heart attack! Take it from someone who knew all about it!!

Timer just went off, I'm off to dinner, see everyone later.
