It's been raining pretty good today, although it isn't that cold out.  Still, tuna casserole sounds pretty good about right now.  With apple cobbler, of course.

Stay dry and stay safe out there.

Okay, everyone, there is plenty of chili left for supper tonight, and we still have
some tuna casserole,  beanie weanies, and there is also some open-faced roast
beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & beef gravy, so take your pick from the warmer
bar.

Desserts tonight:  chocolate cake, chocolate pie, and apple and peach cobblers,
with the following ice creams:  vanila, neopolitan & chocolate.

Good afternoon!

It is a very nice afternoon, at least that's the way it looks out the window. Rumor has it there could be some snow tomorrow night, but nothing significant.

Anyway, I don't have anything special to say today. TTFN.

My cheeks hurt from laughing!

Poor chicken - he is such a softie, he probably scraped a spot in the snow so they could graze!

I will take some chili - it is cool, but not cold here today.  Love grilled cheeze and need a glass of chocolate milk to go with it.

I really can't get over our neighbors.  We have 3 trash cans on wheels out back.  They keep putting one out the night before garbage day for pickup, which is what you should do.  However, the landlord pays extra to have it picked up in the back yard, so the tenants don't have to put them out by the curb.  Had to write them a note this morning as we brought the container back to their usual place.  (if we didn't bring them back, the collectors might figure we weren't doing the backyard thing any more.)

I wonder if they gift wrap their garbage, too?

They are just too good to be renters.  Driver actually got a nap yesterday afternoon.  He has never been able to do that before with anyone renting next to us at any of our locations!

Speaking of naps.....

Let's see now.  What to fix for lunch today?!?!  How about:

1.  leftover chili and grilled cheese sandwiches
2.  tuna melt casserole
3.  beans and weanies

That's about all I can think of, but if anyone of you have a desire for something else,
let me know, and I'll fix it right up.

....Jeaton....Wow, any problems with a braking system on equipment used on the "incline" there in Madison would really contribute to a massive run away....5.89% is to the upper edge of adheison for RR operations.  It must have been an interesting situation while the system was in operation each time traffic descended or ascended.

Q

I think that line was kicked around in a thread sometime back.  I had a memory of reading about a run-away on that hill and the magazine index brought up a story in the Railroad Reading section of the April, 2001 Trains.

Of course, my copy of that issue has been misfiled.  As I recall the run-away happened not long after the Penn Central merger.  The Pennsy use a couple of locomotives with dynamic braking to aid speed control going down.  Under the rearranged maintenance program, the units had just returned from an ex-NYC shop where there was not a clue of the purpose of some "gadgets?" installed in the locomotives.  Guess what?

....Trivia comment:

In our Sunday paper {TheStarPress}, we find a feature of a local reporter takes an auto trip to various locations of interests and writes up and article of it..

This week was a trip down to Madison, In. to do a report on how the city established a road such as it was then back in the 1800's, up from the Ohio river to Indianapolis and on up to the northern part of Indiana so goods could be delivered from boats on the Oh. river, etc...Trade.

Then an improvement came with the building of a railroad to do similar tasks.  But to get up from the river level it required getting up 400 plus ft. of elevation and that was a heavy task in building the railroad.  Well, most railfans know about the 7,000 ft. stretch of that railroad built on a 5.89% grade to open the transportation window up from the river and on up to Madison upper levels and on out beyond, etc...

The writer made a final comment of "probably no one is going to drive down to Madison to see an old abandoned railroad track..."  No not just anyone, but almost any railfan would certainly drive quite a distance to see a 5.89% {old main line}, grade that is still in place....A fact totally lost on the writer.

I've got a big pot of chili on for Sunday Dinner and supper
tonight.  To go with the chili, there will be your choice of
grilled cheese sandwiches, or PB&J sandwiches.

Good morning, folks. Joe, thanks for bringing the doughnuts this morning, I think I'll grab one along with a cup of hot coffee.

It's a bit on the chilly side here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, I rolled out of bed at 7:00 and we had at that hour a temperature of 37 degrees. It feels more like 30, and we have a cloudy sky. Rain is in the forecast for around 11:00 this morning and then throughout the rest of the day.

I am in the habit of checking out the weather conditions in other parts of the country, and I've noted that it is just a bit warmer in Louisville, Kentucky, although Louisville too, is socked in with cloud cover.....but it is supposed to be fairly nice later this afternoon, with Louisville having some bright, sunny weather and a temperature that will max out at 51 degrees.

Well, I've got to go to church this morning, so I think I'd better hit the shower and get myself cleaned up.

Good Sunday morning to all.

Joe, thank you so much for getting the coffee on, and making
the juice, and for bringing in doughnuts this morning.  Seems
you've read my mind again.

Everyone enjoy your Sunday; if it's as cool where you are, as
it is here, be sure you bundle yourself up, so you don't get
sick.  Although, don't bundle up so much, that you sweat, from
getting too warm.

Will be back around 11, and let you all know what we'll have
for Sunday Dinner.

Well, the ol' personal weather station is showing 30.01" of precip for the year, so far.  And it's still raining here.

Lunch today was the volunteer appreciation luncheon for the railroad.  Got some good news - money for fixing up track is forthcoming!  Our primary goal on the Adirondack is service all the way from Utica to Lake Placid.  We can get another 5 miles under our belts (at least good enough that we can run excursions on it) with this.  Only, what, 50 left to go!

Hawaiian, as usual.

It's a logo for the Chrome Shop Mafia, a group of truck customizers based out of Joplin, MO.  They have a show on CMT called 'Trick My Truck', where the group takes the trucks of deserving owner-operator drivers and gives it back as a custom truck suited to the owner's hobbies and personalities.  Their website is www.chromeshopmafia.com, I got the photo off of their wallpaper offerings.  The photo itself is the lettering incorporated into the drawing of a Tommy gun.

Anyhoo, went to Trainfest in Milwaukee today, was a nice show, but expensive.  Picked up a few books and a new Walthers catalog.

I'll take a few slices of sausage for dinner tonight, CW.

I'm a vet so I'll say you're welcome to the thanks, but my contribution was very modest and so I will also send thanks to those who were or are seriously in the thick of things.

The holiday has been nice to me.  41 years ago, I was due to get out on 11/11, but because it was a holiday, I wasn't out until the next day.  Got an automatic big pay raise for going over two which meant my reimbursement for unused leave also took a big jump.

Only problem with the holiday is that the entire federal government, including the post office takes the holiday.  So I get no mail today.  How about only military personnel get the day off and for thanks everybody else stays on the job?  (grumble, grumble)
