If nothing else, this was a l--o--n--g weekend...

Willy - cold have used that "low" 70 in Old Forge this weekend.  Sunday morning we started out with something resembling 56 degrees...

Rained off and on Saturday, but we managed to stay relatively dry on the railroad.  Sunday dawned clear and warmed up nicely.

Saw the fireworks in downtown Old Forge on Saturday night, and managed to get back north in time to join several fellow firefighters on their fireboat to observe the fireworks at Boldt Castle from the waters of the St Lawrence River.  Very nice.  Made for a very long day, though.

Woke this morning to a nice percussion symphony and a third of an inch of rain, both courtesy of Mother Nature.

Joe - what day(s) do you plan on being at Owosso?

Update:  Willy...Regarding our comments of whether the 4th of July has a history of being too cool, etc....To my surprise, as I watched the late news last night from a major Indianapolis station...They reported that our 4th of July {warmest}, temp {this year}, was actually a  record breaker....The coolest..ever..!

70 degrees, and normal would be about 85.

.....And our new work week starts with a beautiful morning....Sunshine and mod. temps gets us started.  63 degrees a bit after 7 this morning and it's warming up now.

Seems we're to have a fairly dry and sunny week, with a small chance of rain later in the week.  We are still needing more rain here.  That 1/4" we received on the 4th certainly helped, but that was very little of what might be needed.

Actually, that small bit of rain did green up several things that were getting pretty dry.  Corn crops in our area sure look good now, but much longer without more rain can't really be helping.

Record cold 4th of July weather in both Indiana and Nebraska, and 50s in New York State. It seems that as a general rule, the weather this year has been rather strange in many parts of the country. At least there haven't been any hurricanes yet!

We have a 9:00 AM temperature of 74 degrees today. 90s will be back by Wednesday, so the chilly weather has ended here.

50 degrees at 6;00 AM at 5600 feet in AZ mountains. In Phoenix June was the coolest since 1913.

AZ monsoon season began about ten days ago and more than three inches of rain at my home so far.

Mooks: Barking doorbells are recovering, no longer nervously sticking to me like velcro.

Saw GWR Business Car #1 ("Yellowstone") outside for the first time in ages (usually resides inside the Loveland shops....which right now resembles a ghost-town) at Windsor. Also very wierd to see industry tracks with 115# new rails and ties when the main line is 1903 vintage 85# rail on ugh! ties....

hmmmm....very large B-24 just wen by my office window...didn't know there was even one left that flew...can they go drop a ton or so of El Toro Caca on RTD while they're here?

Good afternoon, everyone.  Well, I went back to bed this morning, and woke up sometime after 12:30, when Walt came up and woke me up, asking me if I was going to sleep all day.  I guess I really needed the sleep (although I feel like I could go back to sleep right now).

I've stocked the warmer bar for the rest of the afternoon and early evening:  leftover beef tips and noodles w/the broccoli/peas & carrots medly, along with several other side dishes.

Quentin and Willy, we're supposed to back in the low 90s by Friday and Saturday.  So guess our cool down is over.  Looks like summer heat an humidity will be back with us.

Hope everyone is having a good day, enjoy the rest of it, and you all take care.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a very good night, and are ready for a brand new day.  Even if it is beginning to warm up again.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade, iced teas (sweet and unsweet), and hot water for hot tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, and the fixings for BLTs, including toasted bread.

Everyone have a very  good morning, and I'll see you all after I get through with Tuesday Produce.

Per Wikipedia:

There are only three flying B-24s in the world, a B-24J named Joe of Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, Florida; a B-24A named Ole 927 of Commemorative Air Force in Addison, Texas; and a B-24J named Witchcraft of the Collings Foundation in Stowe, Maine. There are five complete airframes on static display in the U.S., five complete airframes on static display outside of the U.S. and nine partial airframes/wrecks in the world.

Commemorative Air Force was formerly known as the Confederate Air Force.

Got an air show in your area this week, MC?

Another beautiful day under way here.....but it is so dry.  Rain needed, but not today, my little barn is being painted.

I just finished up another mowing.  Had to try out how my blade sharpening skills performed, having done it yesterday....greased it too, and polished that nice John  Deere paint.

B-24 nothing!  I didn't even know he had an office!

Large nest, eight floors up in the asparagus patch at I-25 and I-225......

Lurch exceeded 60,000 miles over the last weekend. 20,000 more and we can consider the glue factory for him/it, if he doesn't die first or wind up in Adrian Speeder's zoo. (doesn't move very well, would make an excellent target).....Mothership leased a herd of slanty-eyed pickemups lately (and discovered they are not 3/4 ton rated for a reason, still working on the learning curve)....

Lurch sits on top of the garage because he can't fit in the garage (by 3 inches, unless we start talking convertible p/u)

B-24 appears to be Collin's bird per their website . (no airshow, but they are doing some kind of fundraising with it at JefCo Airport and an AT-6 Texan)

I read somewhere a few years back, that the Air Force didn't have a B-24 in it's museum at Wright-Pat. and finally had to get one from Pakistan, of all places. Somebody mentioned a B24A. Man alive, that is an early job. The D-version was already in use by 1942. Occasionally, we have a visit at the old AAF field here by a B17 and a B24. AT-6s and SNJs seem to be everywhere around here.

Well, there.  Just spent a whole bunch of money.  Buying a new truck (although I have to drive to Niagara Falls Monday to pick it up), and just in time for the trip to Owosso.

Also made my hotel reservations (in Howell, about an hour and change from Owosso) for Friday and Saturday nights.  After I leave Owosso on Sunday, I'm motoring straight to Deshler for a couple nights of camping, then home again.

I might have gone to Deshler first, but I've got stuff going on at work I need to be there for...

Anybody else going to get their fill of live steam in Michigan in a couple of weeks?

Joe, after our day today, supper is definitely on the light side:

Hamburgers or cheeseburgers w/lettuce, tomato, and whatever else you want on your sandwiches, and your choice of fries or potato chips, and a nice garden salad.

We had about 80 people show up for Produce this morning.  They brought us:  iceburg lettuce, little bitty packs of assorted fruit combinations, potatoes, little bitty watermelons.

Just an FYI for everyone:  I won't be in first thing in the morning:  have an early trip to the hospital for a regular checkup.  Nothing serious (hopefully), so should be back in tomorrow afternoon sometime.

Everyone enjoy your burgers, and have a good evening.

Time for me to head to work. If anyone wants to deck scrub (deep clean the floors) for me at work tonight, just stop by Arby's and I'll be happy to give you a scrub-brush and bucket of mop water!  Thumbs Up

Evening.

Well, Grandpa and me got the shed finished today. In case you didn't know we tore off the old wooden boards and put on the new T-111 board. Now we must paint it. The cornfeild outside my house has tassels on it. I can't belive it. Also something I can't belive is that I only have 35 days untill school starts again. Ughhh.Grumpy Well, something more that I can't belive is that we have 4 days till vacation! Big Smile Again, i can't wait!

CW, thanks for supper. Will eat a burger, and split.

Mookie appreciates all the mugs, but not sure I can hold all that coffee.  However....something about the old college try!

Joe/Tree - instead of camping, why don't you just sleep in the new truck and make a quick trip to Lincolnland.  It is only down the road apiece from Joe...Big Smile

Ok - I don't see that happening, so will just keep busy here entertaining all the family that keeps running through the house.

Going to my quiet place for awhile....

Oh yes - Quentin - you got rid of your moles, and because we are almost solid clay, we don't have those, but we still have yard art.  Landlord put in hoses for underground sprinklers back in May, found out he needed a permit to do so, applied for permits and it is now early July and the hoses are still sticking up out of the ground.  Want to trade moles for yard art?  Moles don't need a permit and wouldn't stick up as far!  Plus I could have a pet....or two.....or maybe sic them on neighbor up the street that thought M50,000's for 3 days over 4th was funny at midnite.....

Yes, Jen, we have been successful of eradicating all the moles...For now.  Hopefully, another family won't decide to take up residence here any time soon.

Yard art....Yep, those moles are very capable of  that too.....and they can do it in record time.  That is what makes it a challenge to "take them out" quickly.

The partly completed sprinkler system sounds like it would really be like working in a "mine field" to one who tries to mow.....

Weather here this morning....overcast, but looks like it might break apart at times....Cooler than yesterday...Windows closed though and A/C running as it is to become more humid and rising temps towards that 90 measure by as close as tomorrow....

My little barn is standing tall this morning from it's completed refurbishment yesterday...from a complete scraping, caulking, primer on some parts and final painting.  That job is now complete...On to the next one.

Granddaughter is spending a few days with us now....I note first stop right after lunch is to Jean's "hair" renovation shop...for Heather.  Guess I can read a magazine {in the truck...maybe car}, while all that occurs.

And so July marches on....Hopefully not too fast.  Hate to think of Summer moving along like it seems to be.....We're past the longest daylight day of the year now....Bummer.

It's a tough balance - there are things I can hardly wait for to happen, yet you don't want to wish your life away....

Finished up the paperwork for the new truck today.  After a very busy weekend, I'll head to Niagara Falls (about 4 hours) to pick it up.  Hopefully they'll give me something toward my old truck, so I don't have to dispose of it myself...

Yes, Larry, I hope they don't make you drive it back home; that could be difficult.Laugh Maybe you can get enough to pay for the registration on the new truck? Back in '62, I was driving to Mississippi from Decatur, Georgia, in a '50 Chevy. A bearing burnt out right after I crossed the Tombigbee, and, a few miles later the engine threw a rod. I was towed into Cuba, left the car there, and made my way on. This took place on a Saturday. Monday, I bought a new Chevy in Wesson, Mississippi, paid the road and bridge tax and the ad valorum tax (Mississippi had an interesting tax structure for automobiles back then; both taxes declined with the age of the car), and drove to Cuba to get my belongings from the old car. What I was given for it was enough to cover the registration costs.
