I just typed in" virginia`s rail heritage region rail cam" . When it came up i put it in favorites or bookmark . RON
Ron ; withdrawal syndrom~~~ had already set upon me ~~ Snow not rain. VMT cam jerked a stacker through town at 21:20 something. Need for some comfort food, such as chocolate cake - chocolate icing and coffee. Then hunt up Sunday River vid of articulated N&W steamers going through Thurman . ~~~~ Soothing.
I hear you. I am thinking ice cream and the herron videos pocahontas glory series . I just can`t watch that museum cam more than a couple of minutes. RON
The good camera is still down . If anybody knows how to fix it , i will do the driving . If only it were that simple . RON

A few weeks ago, when the spider webs were a pain, I spoke with a woman at Hotel Roanoke.. She got the problem resolved posthaste. The camera is inside the walkway, hence the lousy view in the afternoon because of the sun.
A bit of electronic investigation revealed the camera is not the responsibility of Hotel Roanoke, but of the local university. I doubt they have the time and personnel to keep it running 24/7.
Going through withdrawal myself. WAA! Big tears.
RichardLHight I wonder how long the hotel management will put up with that cam they agreed to install? I'm sure it's been asked before but I must have missed the post..... Does anyone know why those white propane tanks are located along side the tracks?
I can't speak with any authority about the white tanks, but I assume they are propane for running the switch heaters. Roanoke does get snow, freezing rain and freezing temperatures and the switches would need some method of keeping them clear of ice because they appear to be remote controlled where there would not be a person to check on them before attempting to change their position.

I agree that the propane tanks are for switch heaters . I don`t think our hotel cam will be around much longer . It will soon be a pain to them and they stop doing anything to keep it on line . RON
Now that we've been spoiled by the newer cams (Roanoke, Netherlands, and others) one might wonder if and when the signature Trains cam at Rochelle might eventually be upgraded. Maybe even with sound.

Don`t count on it . I believe these cams are installed with the best of intentions , but over time they realize what a pain they are to maintain . They then figure they are not worth the trouble . I am afraid that is what has happened to the roanoke cam . RON

....Yes, changing the Rochelle cam with updating would be nice. A larger pic. display.....streaming video.....Lights at night...{I certainly don't expect that to happen}, and of course, sound would be great.
That, basically is the competition out there on the web. I really don't spend much time on it now, with the 2 sec. or so frames updating, and such a small pic. And of course, nothing to see in the evening / night.
I know what you mean . I haven`t been to the rochelle cam in over a year. Since the hotei cam has been down , i have been watching the one in the netherlands . The hotel cam keeps saying readyand i keep yelling yes . I guess it doesn`t hear too well . RON
It appears that the railcam is back up at 1:10 this afternoon. I must admit, I missed it.

Either my eyes were deceiving me earlier or I saw two diesels and a passenger car being hauled West past the museum cam. Both diesels were in red livery and one of them had the figure "1" on the body.

Back up and running at 2:40 PM EST when I came back from a meeting. Glad to see it because I was going through withdrawal.
Maybe if they knew how hard these outages are on our health , they would make a special effort to keep them up and running . RON
