Whistling     Ron ; from 10:35 VMTcam time to13:10  3378 is moving EB. to the musem, then back up  That has happened several times .  Are they kicking cars or just testing forward and reverse shift lever.? Also the little red caboose is behind the green smoker. Is the numbers all 5s on the caboose ?

I noticed that too Larry. Shortly before it switched to nigh-time mode the resolution went to pot. After it turned to B/W the resolution came back. Never seen it do that before.

It also works well in Windows Media Player. For the best resolution, see the IP address I posted earlier in the thread. It has better resolution than the link from the magazine. Copy, paste, bookmark.

Well - I found out the source of the ol' herky-jerky on my PC - I was using WinAmp.  Changed to RealPlayer and the jerkiness is gone.

Looks a little out of focus - I'm guessing that's something with the cam, though.

HOOO-Boy! now I've finally got technology conforming to my will. Thanks to Norm I've finally got the web cam working well, and I was able to get the Curling off of the Cable TV on Windows Media Center. I was able to re-size both so I can see them at the same time, so now I am really living large, as they say.

There was a funny non-RR related incident on the cam about an hour ago. What looked like a first generation Chrysler-built minivan came in from the west. It had a major cooling system malfunction because as it was stopped at the three way stop sign, steam was coming out under the front. Then it turned left with a huge cloud of steam/smoke? coming out from under both sides and the back. I seriously doubt it made it very far off camera!

Somebody wasn't having a good day.

The 614 was in front of the hotel cam for about 40 minutes . No jerkiness in that cam .   RON

Thank you very much, it works great. There was a couple of seconds there where I wasn't sure what was going on, but it loaded fine. There was some dialog box talking about "object", but it disappeared before I could read it, and the picture came up. Looks like a nice day there.

Thanks again.

I can't believe I missed the C&O 614 on Thursday. I was reading the forums on this site at that very time but didn't have the camera on.

I'm not going to spend any more time watching it though, until they get the "jerkiness" removed. Now it is no better than the Rochelle, IL cam.

Yep, That's it........ BTW, I said the Locomotives were Geeps........ Was that right?? I'm not one to tell a lot about motive power with only a Quick Glance....... At least I got Helm Leasing right. And, the Helm Unit looks to be ex BN....

GPs are generally 4 axles.  The 33xx is an SD40-2, and the Helm junker looks to be a 6-axle, too.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

There was some discussion a few posts back about smoke. I found the explaination on another forum this morning. Not quite the most modern of technology, but hey, it must work.

"Norfolk Southern says the fire is a controlled burn.

Spokesman Robin Chapman tells WSLS that crews put down, then set fire to peat moss, in order to expand the rails for replacement.  Chapman said in cold weather rails contract, and crews use this method to heat them up before replacing them.

Chapman added that Roanoke Fire-EMS was contacted, prior to the work beginning."

At 5:39 pm this evening, I spotted what I think they call the Norfolk Southern Track Inspection train. First time I've seen it.

Monday Nite - Midnight...... WB, Long mixed freight headed out. Waiting under the Bridge (2nd St??) was an EB, or so it looked. Went to the Museum Cam and at that time, it started EB. Back to Hotel Cam. Train pulled forward to the Crossover and stopped. After 5 minutes, he started backing up. I went back to the Museum Cam and watched. Mostly ADMX Covered Hoppers, then a Old, "Used" Looking CABOOSE! then a HLCX Geep and a NS Geep. NS was 3378, didn't get the # on the Helm Leasing unit......... The Caboose # is 555036......

I had to wait for a couple of through freights before the caboose came back out to play...

I think I have gotten other photos of this one, but I wish I could get a photo of it in the daytime!

I looked again and see some smoke... I am pretty sure that is a thermite weld being done just off the left (east) of the camera's view.

I just looked for the 1st time today and I see no smoke presently, but there is a large MOW truck there on what I call track 3 with something much smaller in front of it... maybe they are replaceing a section of rail and the smoke you saw was a thermite weld being done?  That can be a bit spectacular at times.

There was a recent mention of the lack of 'D P' being used on the NS.  I just brought up the hotel cam to see the last few boxcars moving quickly EB with a single heavy GE bringing up the rear.... or possibly it was a short string of cars being pushed out of the west yard.

BTW, I woke up early Saturday morning and checked the hotel cam to find it still on color at 4: AM.

The VMT cam will be down till Monday, so they say on Face Book page. But the Hotel cam is working fine. Some times have to fight it a few times to make it come up but then it works.

?!  I have been watching the hotel cam most of the afternoon!  Just watch an EB and 2 WB while 5 engines were waiting on the near track, then a couple of light engines moved west and the engines on the near track moved west and it was actually a total of 7 light engines.

That was about all the Dismals I could stand for a while, so I came back to trains . com to see what had been posted recently.
