I'm thinking maybe chocolate chip cookies would work as well.Chef I sometimes take cookies to work with me at Wendy's to share with my supervisors and co-workers, and the last time I had taken chocolate chip cookies to work with me, one of my supervisors, Setsuko Daniels got wind of it and she came running out of the office to grab a handful of my cookies, she's just like a little kid on Christmas morning!!

OK - I am taking time out from my busy "trying to hide" schedule just to satisfy Tree and get face first into the cake.Kisses Dinner Yum!  And with coffee to boot - perfect!

I wasn't missing - I just don't come out on April Fool's Day.  I have been down that road too many times and sometimes I am so gullible so I stay hidden all day in the closet.

Nothing new to report here....

Seeing Willy and some or all of his family on Sat.  They are coming to Lincoln for weather symposium and we are going to see if we can shake loose some BNSF trains in the afternoon and then dine out.  Not a very nice weekend here weatherwise, either.  You would think we could get some good sunny weather with a future meteorologist at hand, but doesn't look like it.

I am going to ask Willy to answer two questions for me after he obtains his Ph.D.  - why do weather patterns travel all the way from the west coast or from the south, get to Lincoln and then divide and go around Lincoln and then rejoin?  (watch radar during stormy season and you will see it happen most of the time)

AND.....

Why do people watch trains?

Ph.Ds ought to be able to answer that one, don't you think?  Shy

(I know - I worked with Ph.Ds who had trouble using a common telephone.  Some MDs, too!  But this is WILLY!  He will know!  Big Smile

Quentin, these LCD flat screens are nice, ain't they. I had a 17" CRT and when it went belly up, I got the LCD. It's like day and night with a mess of free space on the desk to boot. Take care

And Tom, I believe they use less current too....I've noticed on my flat screen TV's that is the case and this one is from the same manufacture and of course it's LCD.  And I agree, now that I have it under control, it really is nice....Lots of space around it....light to move, if needed....bright and very sharp....etc...so guess we'll keep it....Smile

Edit:  Plasma units are the energy users....

Good question J....I'd sure like to hear that answer too.  We experience that phenomenon here in the Muncie area....You can see a straight unbroken line of weather approaching us and {many}, times it falters or splits at Muncie, some going to the north and remaining to the south to continue on.

It's not limited to Lincoln.

So the story goes, there were thousands of troops stationed on Canton Island (an atoll in the South Pacific) during WWII.  There wasn't enough equipment to desalinate enough water for showers, only for drinking, etc.

When the GI's would see an approaching rainstorm, they would flock to the lagoon to get lathered up in anticipation of rinsing off in the rain.  Then the rain would split and go around the island.

I spent a year on Canton (now Kanton, part of the country of Kiribati (kiribas)) in the 70's.   We did have enough water for showers...

Larry, looks like your plan worked:  Mookie, glad to see you back today!  (I bet if I decided not to come in for a few days, I probably wouldn't be missed by most people.)Wink

Well, I grilled for us all yesterday, so today we'll have:

Sloppy joes w/your choice of potato chips, fries or onion rings, slaw or salad, pork n beans, apple sauce if anyone wants some, and, of course, there's what's left of Larry's chocolate cake, along with German chocolate cake, Dutch apple pie, and peach cobbler.

So far, we have sunshine and blue skies.  Maybe the showers/storms will hold off until tonight.

Ray - only with English walnuts....

Mookie, if I had your mailing address I might surprise you with a little something. It's always fun to surprise someone with something I've produced in my own kitchen, whether it be cookies or homemade bread. Right now I'm not in the position to be doing anything like this, my main employer laid me off this week and I am not sure I will be going back to work at all. I have an application in with one of our Walmart stores, and I am exploring my options.

Wendy's laid me off under the pretext that all three of the stores in this town are losing money and that for this reason they needed to cut some hours with a few of their employees. I'm not sure I want to buy this excuse, which is exactly what Tom Johnson said it is, but if you couple this with the fact that I have worked with four different managers in two years, and they are now training a 5th, and the fact that they are laying off good people like myself, there is something wrong  here. I had spoken with one of my supervisors who had actually hired me two years ago, and she is not happy at all with this situation. In a nut shell she told me that she depends on me too much and that she knows she can count on my availability when others fail to even show up for work.

Good Friday morning, everyone!  Going to be a cool, windy day today, with a high in the mid 50s.  Winds around 30 mph, gusting to 40+ today.  Think the rain is just about over.  As Mutt said, we had plenty of thunder, lightning and wind last night, along with pouring rain.

Coffee, juices (oj, oj/tangerine, pineapple, apple, grape), hot chocolate, and hot water for tea are ready.

And there is a large assortment of doughnuts on the counter, along with danishes, bagels, bear claws and several kinds of muffins.  And yes, there's quite a few of the doughnuts that are chocolate covered!! (You know Mookie and I have to have our chocolate fix!!)

I've got a lot of errands to do today.  Have to go buy a gift for a baby shower tomorrow.  Our nephew and his wife are expecting their first child.  And, It's a Girl!  No name has been mentioned yet, but she is due to make her appearance around June 25th.  Hopefully, we'll get to see her sometime, since this particular nephew lives in Cleveland, OH.  So, somebody may have to take care of lunch for me today.

Mookie, have gotten your coffee mug out, and it's ready to have coffee poured into it, when you get in.

Everyone have a good morning, stay as dry as possible, if you're getting rain, and everyone take care.

Well, hate to piddle on all your parades east of us, but got it straight from the Omaha Oracle (Willy) that we will probably have at least 4+ inches of snow on Sunday.  Low pressure in AZ area, going to hit Sir Chicken and then - well, I am just too depressed to talk about it.  Blindfold

One bright spot - and this won't mean anything to you who have not met the Driver, but he assured me that we would not get snow.  (This is someone who 99% of the time will find a parking place in front of the store, can guess at the Jeopardy answers and get them right, walked into the room and predicted a card in a solitare game I was playing and can't ever predict the powerball lottery - he is always one number on either side of all of them.  Guess that makes him fallible, doesn't it.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

Good Friday morning,

That's next week, CW.....    Smile,Wink, & Grin

It's my day off, so why am I sitting at my desk at work?  (Answer:  There are techs here working on my system and I have to be here to keep track of what they're doing).

Still, the tea is good, but I'm having an apple fritter today.

It would be rare if we would see anything like that here on Monday.....They did mention of snow flurries / rain....possible then, but really doubt if it will do much of the snow stuff.....We have blossoms blooming quickly here now and ground warming.....and now I'm waiting for a dry day to do the next grass mowing.  Roughly 50 degrees now with some wind.  Had a sprinkle or so earlier.  Some rain overnight, but nothing of much consequence.

Q - on trip to grocery store yesterday, we saw.....Robins, lots of robins, more forsythia, crocus, jonquils, grape hyacinths, starts of tulips and......magnolia buds.  Probably will never go beyond the bud stage, since we aren't too friendly to magnolias here.  Either the wind or the frost gets them every year.  Sigh

J....I just looked up the elevation for Lincoln, Ne., and find you are just about 251' highter then we are here....{our airport figure of 937'}.  Doubt that minor difference should make the difference between you folks getting 4" of snow and we...snow flurries {at best}....Suppose the natural and normal weather flow patterns come into play and really take those weather systems north of us more so than right at us......Guess we'll have to pose that question to Willy.

My tulips are peeking up (and have withstood some cold and snow), but aren't even close to blooming yet.

One of the fellows that's here working this week is headed for Kansas next week.  I warned him to bring his snowshoes.

Trivia....and interests of such:  I just checked the web cams at the Hoover Dam bypass bridge construction site as I do first thing each morning and find the cameras are out of service temporary.  Wow....wonder how that construction can continue without me checking in on it many times each day.  Shock

I'm speculating they might be relocating some to provide more spectacular views of it as the "arch" is now well underway of construction....Estimate 60% of the arch formation is in place now.  It sure is spectactular to watch for anyone interested in such construction projects.  So hope the cameras come back on line soon.....

I guess the term "Sidewalk Superintendent" is no longer P.C.;

what is it now; "Armchair Superintendent"?

Weatherguessers here are calling for rain, cooler temps.

over the weekend; and temps in the high 30s for Mon.

with a chance of snow showers.

Well, we have had snow on the 1st Sat. in May before,

(Derby Day) if you don't like the weather here in the

Ohio Valley, wait 5 minutes and it will change.

I had to be out yesterday, short sleeves....had to

be out earlier today....jacket.
