Evening all.....
Been a while since I've sat and talked, busy week, by the time I get this load of paper off either tomorrow night or Monday, will have just over 3000 miles this week. Not bad for the economy being in the toilet.
Been running a LOT of beer lately, between last months' sharp increase in sales (unexpected), and certain breweries having quality problems, we have been running like gangbusters.
Really like Culver's hamburgers, just not all the grease that goes with them, could darn near lube a car with a hamburger. Have also tried various Huddle House and Waffle Houses, they are okay, a little greasy for me though.
For some strange reason, have noticed that the four-wheelers have been getting dumber lately, had to crack the air horn on a guy who hit the brakes to let a few cars out of a rest area near Cleveland today, today's drivers just don't know what a yield sign means. Have had an increase in people running along in my blind spot on the right side, only to have them run out of on-ramp.
Only bad weather encountered was up I-81 in PA Thursday afternoon, crosswinds were trying and failing to blow me over, had 45k of beer in the box at the time, so stayed put.

Guess we can tell from the posters in the cafe who is staying home for Valentine's Day. We had breakfast out and with it cold out and still getting dark early - home was great. Get in your jammies early, relax for the evening and watch a rerun of the King and I for about the 10th or 12th time!

Mulit task problem of driving and talking on phone is solved...
New car, simply press button on steering wheel, car askes "who do you want to call" you say the name of the person you want, car dials their phone...they answer, you talk, hands never leave the wheel, eyes never leave the road.
I would try this more often, but my Aimee wont give the car back long enough for me to practice!

Good Sunday morning, everyone. We're starting out at 30 degrees this morning, imagine it'll drop a couple of degrees with daylight coming in. Can't say sunrise, cause it is very cloudy out. Our high today is supposed to be 41 degrees.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready. On the warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits w/sausage gravy, grits, toast, buttermilk pancakes w/plenty of syrup, or, if you'd like, there's plenty of fresh fruit to put on top of your pancakes (i.e. blueberries, cherries, strawberries, apples, etc.)
Everyone enjoy your morning, your breakfast, and I'll be in the kitchen, working on Sunday Dinner for later on. Today's menu: Roast beef, potatoes, carrots, onion, broccoli w/cheddar cheese sauce, corn, cole slaw, cauliflower.

Morning. 42 and clear in Carolina on the way to mid 50s, I think. Paula, thanks for breakfast. Ed, nice car. I have owned only one car that I consider "nice". Once, I had a new 1970 cardinal red GTO "Judge" with black interior. I was some more proud of that thing, and sometimes still have dreams about it. The wife couldn't drive straight stick, so had to let it go after I got married. Should have kept the car and traded wife.... Joe, sorry to hear about the school bus fire. There seem to be a lot of fires on busses lately. When I was coming up, you hardly ever heard of such or for that matter, an accident of any kind involving a bus. It was a different world back than. Everybody take care and have a great day.

That brought back memories of a boyfriend teaching me to drive stick. He was successful and I actually had a stick "something" - small station wagon. Made my backside sore trying to always drive it through town (both feet off floor) and always had clutch problems (it was a piece of overpainted garbage to begin with) but it was transporation.
Less successful was different boyfriend trying to teach me how to ride a motorcycle. Best I did was helping push it up on a trailer!
Off to watch some trains. Hope they run something really interesting today. (Powers that be, are you listening? About 1:30 pm would be about right.....)

Had one of the originals, 71 with the 440 wedge...this one is 24" shorter, and about 700lbs lighter...and much faster.
But the old one was fun...you didnt drive it really...you pointed it in the direction you hoped to go, stomped the gas, and prayed no one got in the way....this one has so much computer assisted stuff like the handleing package that getting it sideways is almost impossible...plus the radio/navigation/phone system is outa the world cool...the old one had an 8 track...

Joe - you sent us an mt DEEX, so we filled it up and sent it back - all within 2 hours! Great time at trackside today. BNSF is running all the "stock" they can get their finners on, both BNSF gons and BNSF hoppers. Very nice!
......Well, the Daytona race was kinda a bust. Rain shortened and called as the cars were parked on pit lane. 48 laps before normal finish. But enough laps were under their belt to make it a called race.
Couple of massive wrecks. No wonder, running in a big "pack" and one little off color move, and bingo, it's cars slamming and sliding everywhere and of course some not able to continue when it was all cleaned up.
Would much rather see a strong competition finish....
Headline on our Muncie StarPress this morning was: Commuter line between Muncie and Indianapolis feasible. A study has been conducted over past several years to see what might be possible if a commuter line existed between our two cities.
I personally believe it makes sense as a lot of people do commute to Indy from here daily. Some make at least part of the trip in the other direction each morning too....
The route would be on the double track CSX line which is in rather good condition. Several "bedroom" towns between those two points could benefit too. Mileage is roughly 65 miles to downtown Indy.
It would take a combined county effort, etc....to get such project started. So it probably is nothing that will happen {if at all}, very soon. It just seems it makes sense as roughly paralleling I-69 is a traffic bottleneck at to and from work times and produces quite a few accidents....and fatalities. The study shows the line has track capacity to handle plenty of commuter runs on it. Good speed should be possible on it as the land is mostly flat and track probably does not contain any sharp curves.
Last scheduled passenger train runs on it was terminated roughly when Amtrak was initiated. Back in NYC days. Since then, the line has been Conrail and currently, CSX.
Q - I think that is wonderful news. We will never probably see light rail or anything close to it here, so I am glad when someone else can get some kind of commuter. Having only ridden once - it is an exciting way to travel short distances and I would love it if I could do it again.
If we had light rail here, I would ride it on the weekends - up to Omaha and back - just for fun!
J....It really does seem like a very natrual location to do something as stated....Lots of back and forth traffic each day and that portion of I-69 can be dangerous. Several towns in between could feed commuters to it too.

She never did learn to drive a stick shift--so she did not drive the car I had when we married nor the pickup I later had for about two years. I think I can still drive one, though it has been close to twenty years since I drove one.
As to cell phones, I hope no one ever feels it necessary to tell you, "Put that binkie down!" (Some people seem to be afraid to be away from a telephone at any time, and a cell phone is almost like a binkie for them). A few years ago, we were going to go into a store, and as we came up to the front of it, a man backed out of a parking place--and stopped to talk on his phone. I honked my horn, and it did not bother him at all, but when I walked up to his door, he realized that he was blocking traffic and moved. A few months ago, someone was either talking or texting while traveling on a freeeway, was rear-ended, and caused quite a traffic slow-down. Be careful; it's not just using your hands with the telephone, but a conversation with someone who is not in the car with you can be distracting--the other person cannot see what's in front of you and warn you of any danger.
Sunshine here today; we did have about two or three inches of snow in the valley yesterday morning.

Gooood Monday morning, everyone. Cool here in Louisville this morning, with a temp of 27, 28 degrees, going up to 42 this afternoon. Should be a nice Presidents Day. About the only thing closed today are some universities/colleges, federal offices and the few schools that are on the year-round schedule.
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready. On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, home-fried taters, grits, oatmeal, toast, and there's boxes of cereal on the counter if you just want one of them.

Family visit is over, daughter's baby shower is done, life more or less back to normal. Had a great time with the granddaughter - she even enjoyed a visit to a local museum (lots of interactive displays).
Best part was watching her interact with the dad-to-be. She was enamored with him, and his reaction to her gives indications that he'll be a great dad.
Day off from work. I've got a couple of projects on tap, so it's time to get to work.... Wait..... I have a day off from work.....

Good morning. 40 degrees and cloudy in Carolina this morning. Mookie, I really liked my goat, but when it died, it died big time. There were several things that went wrong which caused me to decide to trade it in, and on the way to the dealership, the speedometer broke! take care
Mountains of AZ warming up after a 10-14 inch wet snow last week. Yours truly tore a tendon in his arm while shoveling and bride (of 54 years) had first experience with the shovel. We are too old for this but no younger ones showed up with a shovel and we needed a path to the mail box.
Spring training for major league baseball starts in Phoenix area and in Tucson this week. We will make the 200 mile round trip at least twice, one of which is to meet friends from Indianapolis who are big fans of the CUBS.
Thanks to CW and all who wished me happy birthday on the 8th. It was special that I was allowed to select my menu items. I hope to be here for several more years and will stop shoveling snow with expectation that may assist in my longevity.

Quite a few Robins in our area....Seems they {some of them}, have arrived too early this season.
Must run the truck thru the carwash again to get more of the salt removed.
As the Winter grime retreats I'll look forward to getting it more detailed and cleaned up to my standards.

Construction Project interest....? Go to "Hoover Dam Bypass" on "search" and find their web site that has a bank of video cams up and operating to view the massive bridge construction taking place just below the dam to "bridge" the canyon for route US93....
A concrete structure being constructed 2000' in length and 900' above the Colorado River water...Unbelievable complicated construction....Double arch {under construction now}, scheduled to connect about the 3rd qtr. of this year...I've been watching it emerge now for about 2 years.

Mookie, I was surprised to find out just how expensive it is to fly. My girlfriend was in Lincoln this weekend to visit some family and I was looking into flying there to see her for Valentine's day. (She will be back here tonight anyway). I looked it up and it was $800 round trip! That is Rock Springs to Denver to Lincoln and back. I knew If I spent that kind of money just to see her she would be so mad at me.
Paula, It's kind of funny, I attend a Community college and have the day off. But the University has classes today.

This is the first stage auger crusher. It is cast as manufactured by Allis Chalmers, The same company that made Farm Tractors
They are restoring the place to as it was in 1929 and are doing so with no original blueprints, only working off of 11 photos. They hope to be done restoring in the next 5 years but already are offering tours in the summer. If you are ever in the area, The Carissa mine and South Pass City a couple miles away are a great stop and a great history lesson.
