There was a fire around here years ago that was a super rat pack episode. Two old maid sisters, who were both schoolteachers both died with no heirs. The will specified that their house was to be locked and burned to the ground with all it's contents. Officers and the coroner who had investigated the last death reported that the house was full of antiques, bags of silver and gold coins, and shoeboxes full of currency. The sheriff was obliged to put a 24 hour guard on the house until it was burned. Afterwards, people with metal detectors scavenged it. This is a true story. You never know with some people. Kinda like the guy in Chicago who had $600,000 in the bank but froze to death after not paying his bill to the gas company.

Good Monday morning, everyone!  Slept in for a bit this morning, so just getting in here.  Has anyone heard anything from Joe????  I hope everything is all right with him and family.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits w/sausage gravy and cereal.

We have a temp of 43 this morning, could get up to almost 70 degrees today, with rain coming in later on.  Might even see some thunder boomers tomorrow.

Jack, glad you had a nice birthday, yesterday.  We do try to please everyone around here.

Mookie, I'm very sorry to hear about the fire in your area.  Very sad, indeed.  I've got your coffee mug ready, and I'm waiting to pour your coffee into the mug, when you get in here.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and keep safe.

.....I'm sure some form of weirdness appears in every part of the country....we just don't hear about all of them....Glad we don't.

I'm sure each one of us can relate some form of this from his home area of someone that knew of it and or first hand experience to some instance near by..

Temp is rising from about the freezing mark earlier this morning....Skies are overcast, but bright at times like the sun is about to break thru.

Snow is all but melted.   A good thing.

Possible storms Wed pm......That's not a good thing.

Anyway, hope we'll kinda "coast" out of the worst of the Winter cycle from here on out.  March can be the tricky transition month.

Hope the new week is good for all....

Tree:  Yeek!  That is quite a story!

No one was hurt in this fire which is the good part.  The house will be torn down since the damage from both the fire and fighting the fire took its toll.

It seems like you hear more about women being the extreme hoarders.  I wonder if this is true.  Dr Phil has addressed this issue only the woman moved from one house to a 2nd one to keep hoarding.

BC - house built in 1910 so wasn't going anywhere until now.

53 and ....... rain!  Little gust of wind every so often.  Rain.....hmm!  We don't have rain this time of year unless we are going to have major ice to follow.  Haven't heard anything like that yet.

Putting out food for the backyard livestock yesterday morning just before sun up and had our resident hawk circle overhead.  Must have liked my bright red sweater!  Or maybe he eats peanuts, too.

I am getting concerned about Joe, CW.  I hope it is only puter troubles!

Off to find some more totally useless news!

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  We have a temp of 57 degrees this morning.  High yesterday was in the 70s.  Worked out in the front yard, getting a start on the ice storm damage to the pine tree, getting the small branches and pine needles swept up and bagged.  Now, we are getting rain.  Tomorrow, we're to have some high winds and thunder boomers.

Mookie, I know what you mean, worrying about Joe.  Like you, I hope it's just computer problems.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.  Mookie, got your coffee mug cleaned and ready to pour your coffee.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs.

Tom, there's also a hot-from-the-oven pound cake.  Do you want it plain, or do you want some sauce over it, or iced?

Cannonball, I hope your Produce Wednesday picks up soon.  (And I also hope our Tuesday Produce picks up!  How are you and Shirl doing?  Hope both of you are well.  And, I'm glad the coffee wasn't too hot!!

Going to be a busy day around here.  After I get through with Produce, have to go to the Pharmacy and pick up a prescription, come home, and start fixing chicken & dumplings while Walt goes to the airport to meet Sarah.  And, if there's any time left, will be working on getting up more pine branches and needles.

I wonder how our friends down in Australia are faring with the fires down there.  Has anyone heard from Peter or Kozzie?

You all enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, keep safe and take care.

Overcast in central Indiana this morning....Headed for 60 to 65 today.  But such temps have consequences.  Here it will be high wind sometime tomorrow.  Some could be damaging according to weather people.  it is gusty this morning but in the acceptable range.  Almost no snow now....Just a bit left in some piles from parking lots, etc....

So...onward towards Spring.   Actually, the sun just started to shine in on the computer.

There is no justice--the people next door to us, who never cleared their sidewalk, have no snow on theirs any more either. We just have one pile left in our front yard to show for all of that hard work. It's breezy here already today, and should get up to 65, which will break all previous records. Severe storms could result tonight and tomorrow.

I have this urge to get out and do something today--I'm hoping to pay our bills and run other errands in downtown Elmhurst, keeping a close eye on the tracks for some anticipated action. Yesterday we had an early Valentine's Day celebration with the grandchildren, who will be away on the actual day. Not the most pleasant--oldest was bothered by allergies or something affected by the change in the weather; number two is coming down with a cold, and number three had a bit of croup overnight. Pat is sore this morning--spent too much time down on the floor tickling Emily (who was asking for it!). I suspect she won't want to break out the bikes today (it would have to be street biking--the paths here are too muddy yet).

We're planning an exciting trip for early April--Pat has to turn in a quilt for a competition at Bishop Hill, Illinois, and we'll also go visit my sister in Muscatine, Iowa (they moved there from eastern Michigan). At the same time my other sister and her husband will be going to Muscatine (from western Michigan). There are trains to be seen in that area--especially if we go between Muscatine and Bishop Hill by way of Galesburg!

So far the CRO extra board is holding--nobody's been cut.

bout thirty here this morning, with fresh powder snow. The snow yesterday was wet, but the sun took care of it after finally coming out. This morning had about two inches accumulated on the sidewalk (in the valley; it was on the order of between one and two feet deep at the ski resorts). After I went over it with the shovel, the wind dried what was left off.

Paula, that pound cake looks good; do you have any plain boiled custard to go with it? Hot pound cake with cold custard or cold pound cake with hot custard; either way is good.

Johnny, there's plain boiled custard, and Tom, I made some sauce to put over the pound cake, for anyone who wants sauce.

Finally got through with everything for today.  Along with the chicken & dumplings, I'm grilling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and frying fries and breaded mushrooms.  There's also cole slaw and garden salad.

I hope you all have a good evening, keep safe and take care.  Also hope we can get in, in the morning, with the storms that are coming our way.

Joe's fine--just computer and other telecommunication problems.

The temperature didn't reach the record, after all--"only" 61. Nasty storms (same system that brought the tornadoes to Oklahoma) will hit us tonight, then we'll have snow again by Friday. However, we got out to Elmhurst for a while in our errand-running and caught a train or three.

Looks like spring (or at least spring weather) has already arrived in some parts of the country.  Nice day today  - in the 40's, although there was the threat of freezing rain this morning.

Hoping for good travel weather on Friday and Monday - Son, DIL, and granddaughter are headed north for a visit and I want them here safe and sound.

Looks like Ms Mook and Willie are out of danger this round - it's south and east of them as I write this.

Looking for a nice day tomorrow, too.  Truck's going in the shop and I'm planning on hoofing it around town while it's there.  Snow's OK, it's rain I don't want to deal with.

CW, we got word today that no cuts in our programs ( 60 plus or TFAP ) canned goods . All thecuts were for Y'pai  cty. The head shed lady here asked if the folks here ain't supposed to get hungry ??  Phx. said , it was just an oversight . Yeaaaaah.~~~~~ We are OK health wise, warm and dry after the fierce rain & snow hit here with a touch of black ice . It was real quiet on I-17  till the sun came up. Our thoughts go Aussie land and their problems .  Respectfully, Cannonball

It's been quite a while since I have been in here. Mostly I haven't found the time to actually post, since I have been chasing a now toddler around the house, to keep her out of trouble. The forums have changed a lot as well...wow, Smell that fresh paint on the walls, or has it been up for a while, it still smells new. SADIE NOOOO! Leave the trains alone, you can look, but don't touch! Anyway, thought I would drop by, have some fruit, and show Sadie the trains. I'll BM the plage too, so I don't get lost anymore. Take care everyone. Here is Sadie, for those who are curious EDIT: I guess you can't post photos anymore. I'll research it later

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Duff, good to see you & Sadie made it in!!  Hope you get a chance to come by more often.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.  On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, Western omelettes, and some fresh fruit.

Well, looks like we may be in for it again today:  quite windy, w/sustained winds 30-40 mph, gusting to 50-60mph, straight line winds, with plenty of rain, and possibly hard rain showers, and storms.  They said that all of us still w/downed limbs, branches, could see the winds pick them up and move them around.  They're (power co. & mayor's office) say we could have people without power again.  They're telling people to restock batteries, recharge cell phones, etc., to be prepared, along with going to the grocery and stocking up on basics.

Mookie, got your coffee mug ready and waiting for your coffee to be poured into it.

Hope Joe gets computer/technical problems taken care of soon, so we can have him back in here with us!

Everyone in the path of this system coming east from Oklahoma, be careful, keep as safe as possible and take care.

Syracuse is lamenting the coincidence of their "Winter Fest" and a slightly late January thaw.

After the Blizzard of '77, our local leaders thought they'd capitalize on our notariety with "Snowtown, USA."  After a couple of years of having to truck snow in, they gave up.

In the 40's again today.  Truck's in the shop and I'm killing time at the ambulance station.

Well, it's lunch time, so decided to pop back in and post our menu for this afternoon and tonight:  Making today "Mexican Fiesta Day":  tacos (soft shell and hard shell), burritos (beef, beef & bean, and beef burritos enchilada style; spanish rice, fajitas, chimichangas, etc., and as appetizers, tortilla chips w/picante sauce, salsa and con queso.

We are now under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. EST.  Sure do hope that nothing comes of it though, since we still have a lot of pine needles to sweep up, and pine branches to cut up.

Everyone enjoy your meal, keep safe and take care this afternoon!

Well, we've just had a weather change blast thru here....Within the past hour we had wind and rain...Probably the hardest rain we've seen for many months and now a line of clouds ended coming out of the west and showing a front {of some kind was passing}, and being replaced by blue sky and bright sunshine.

I'm sure we're not finished with this line of disturbed weather passing thru from the system that did so much damage and taking of lives in Oaklahoma yesterday.  Still have prediction of high winds and more rain here today.....Wind is minimal here now.  57 degrees now.

We're on tap for wind tomorrow.  Today turned into a good day for the "fog" competition - we had plenty of it, and a quarter inch (so far) of rain to boot.

Truck's out of the shop.  Turned out to be a little more complicated than they thought (and consequently a little more expensive).  But I won't have to worry about dropping a ball joint at highway speeds....

What was for supper?  I'm hungry!

Warmish this morning (low 50s), dropped through the day, wind picked up in the afternoon. Rain throughout, lots of fog (the guy I relieved said the hump was shut down for a couple of hours because nobody could see anything). We might get a little snow tonight.

Duff, there has to be a way to bring Sadie in to where we can all see her (don't ask me; I don't post pictures, either). She sounds like a healthy handful!

Mookie, you and Ricki should get along--until time to cook. Her first husband enjoyed cooking, and after he died, "if the can opener had broken" she and the children would have starved. She tried, three years ago, when I was recovering from my surgery, and again that fall when I was really feeling the enervating effects of chemotherapy, but for several years now, I have done the cooking.

A cool day (about thirty in the morning), with no new precipitation--but wait until tomorrow, when I take Rick up on the east side for two doctor appointments.

I have never been through a tornado, but I have seen the effects of two--one in Birmingham, in December of '57 or '58, and one south of Aliceville, Ala., in the sixties. It is truly amazing that so much damage can be done in such a short time, and there is little warning possible as to the exact path that the tornado will take. I do feel for the people who have suffered loss.

Hello all. I had a quack visit this morning, and afterwards, the wife and I did some grocery shopping. She is exhausted from all of it. There was a high of 72 here, down to 69 at present and calling for rain. The breeze was nice and felt so good after the cold of the past few days

Today was the 5th anniversary of the day I almost died in an automobile accident. The other driver did in fact, pass away. It has been a somber day in remembering things that happened and how my life was changed for the much worse from those events. G-D has seen me through it, PTL. Nuff sed.

Everybody take care and C U
