Sorry not the SP, CNW or Katy. Keep guessing.

I'll be very embarrassed if it turns out to be the CNW, but I'm going to guess Katy.

Sometimes it's a b***h not being allowed to look things up!

From the northeast to Florida, wouldn't L&N be somewhat out of the way?

Why are you assuming a PRR route couldn't originate outside of the Northeast?  Chicago to Logansport IN and points beyond could get it to the L&N, couldn't it -- if not, then via Monon.

Blush [:I]  You're right.  I forgot PRR had a *few* lines west of New England.Dunce [D)]

The route of the South Wind was PRR between Chicago and Louisville, L&N between Louisville and Montgomery, ACL between Montgomery and Jacksonville and FEC between Jacksonville and Miami.

Well, lets see.   In 1945 the PRR received there first 2 E7 locomotives, and put them into service on the Red Arrow, from Harrisburg to Detroit.  However that is not the train that they were bought for.   A last minute contract dispute about pooling power between the PRR and the other railroads running the train caused the PRR to back out of the pooling agreement.  So here is the question, what train were the locomotives originally purchased for, and besides the PRR, what other railroads did it run over?

Yes, it was the Morning and Afternoon Congressionals (DC-Penn Station NYC), and The Senator (DC - Boston).

Good goin'!  The next question is yours.

Where IS everyone this evening?

OK, I'll lay one down; you'll either know it or not:

In 1952 the Pennsylvania RR put new, Budd-built, streamlined cars ("lightweight" according to its era) on part of its Manhattan/Penn Station to D.C./Union Station service.  Which train(s) got the shiny new equipment?   - a. s.

I have a fairly easy one if anyone is interested . . .  Tongue [:P]   - al

I vote for Al and the easy question.  No essay questions though.Clown [:o)]

Actually, it's fill-in-the-blank:

Oh, the Eastern roads are mighty swell,

The Chesapeake  Ohio  and the A.C.L..;

But I do my work and earn my pay

On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe!

Hint:  The songwriter omitted an ampersand (&) in the above to keep the meter. And the first five blanks?  They mention two predecessor railroads to CSX.

Further hints upon request.  -- a.s.

Doghouse, I'll award it to you.  You got everything except "Chesapeake" instead of "Baltimore."

You have the right to pose the next question.  If you choose not to, perhaps nanaimo has one?   Or would like to "nominate" someone?  - a. s.
