Tonight about 730 pm I saw a UP train with engines 3937 (or 3739) and SP unit 253. I wrote them down then managed to loose the paper. It is easy to remember the SP unit's number since I saw 251 just a while back. The train was mixed with a little of everything. It came into Levy (North Little Rock) from Van Burean/Ft. Smith.

An odd sighting...maybe some St. Louis/Midwest folks could shed some light on this movement:

Was sitting in Taco Bell at Chouteau and Broadway in St. Louis and glanced out the window to see a UP and CSX engine leading a string of about 15-20 TOFC cars up the South approach to the MacArthur bridge from Lesperance Street towards the East side. The engines and cars looked very eighties to me for some reason. It's just so rare to see anything but Manufacturers engines pulling anything up that steep approach from Lesperance Street. Anyone else from the area ever seen anything like that on the South Approach? Almost choked on my nachos when I saw that... That made two rare sightings on the Big Mac - that move and the UP 3985 earlier in the morning.

Thanks, Mark
OK Taco Bell is owned by the same people who own KFC Hardees & Pizza Hut
thats not so wierd [:D]
but you meant the train oh well Ive seen UP CSX SOO BN SP &ICG go over that bridge But Youre right that south approach is mainly Manufac's RWY The only other would be A&S Or TRRA Pullin A local[8D]

Today around 1 pm I saw . . . . Little Rock & Western leaving from the UP yard at North Little Rock. These units are green and white. The train had 2 engines and a number of cars. The second engine was an Alco, and no it wasn't smoking. I was driving across the bridge over the yard right by the Locust Street Tower. Since I was driving and passing over the train I couldn't get the loco's numbers. But hey, last I knew they only had about 3 engines anyway.

I went to George Webb in Wauwatosa, WI on Sunday. I wish I would have brought the camera!!! At 16:00, when I pulled up, a freight train pulled by a CP "action" red SD40-2 and a HLCX? x-BN SD40-2 was eastbound. A westbound Empire Builder passed by a short time later, but I did not note the time. The eastbound Empire Builder went through at 17:18.

Thats because the south approach to the Mac bridge, the tracks go directly to the Manufacturers Railway Interchange yard. I have seen MRS trains head up that approach (wich is like a 5% grade) with 2 or 3 of their MP15DC's or SW1500's. On flat territory that same train would only need 1 MP15DC or SW1500. They put those extra locos on there just for that climb, or at least thats what they told me when I got a tour of the MRS engine house. [}:)][;)][:D]

Hey Altolfan, I agree that the new Metra units are very impressive. They seem faster but that might only be due to their appearance and size, but they also sound much better than the older F40's in my opinion

I am sure the prime mover was working just fine. L R & W can sometimes pull a pretty good sized train. They usually use only 2 engines. This summer I plan to do some L R & W railfanning. Any takers, just let me know. [;)]

i saw a CSX switcher on a line servicing a chemical plant... couldnt get a good look at it... was on a bus and only got a front view... well, the cab looked like that of a SW1200, but it was shorter and didn't have a slope right before the cab.

Also saw a mixed freight of chemical, coal and boxcars, and another freight of chemical cars
