Today I saw an Amtrak GP38 pushing 3 coaches and 3 mow cars with a mow caboose at the lead. The train went right through the Amtrak station in Wilmington De, heading south. I guess they were delivering the coaches to the Amtrak Bear Repair Complex.

Hey, I saw the westbound Chief out of Chicago last weekend with a Genesis and two P32-8 units, I thought they were being used in yard service these days. Yesterday I saw BNSF train symbol BRCGAL (Belt Railway of Chicago to Galesburg) with a SD60M white face and a GP9B repainted in Heritage I colors (a real rarity around here). Jim

UP 576 with a CSX unit I didn't bother to get the number of at Ft Drum (Watertown) NY. Second time I've seen UP units here on post.

This was the first time:

These multiple unit consists some of you saw may simply be engines in tow. The division I was assigned to wouldn't allow us to have more than 18 powered axles on line at any one time, but there have been as many as 7 locomotives in my train- 3 under power and 4 headed to Linwood N.C. to be serviced.

The 3985 is coming into my neck of the woods on the way back north. I have already picked out my photo shoot location. I am keeping it a secret so hopefully it won't be crowded. If I get a good pic or two I will post it here. I might send Bergie one if they are good. Wish me good luck and good weather.

dougal [:)]

Did you get any pics of that Alco?
The C424s and the C425s were and are still some good engines. [:)]
If you have pics of them or any other Alco please email me some. [:)]
If you have some good pics of any railroad engines you think are neat or special you can email them too. (I lost most all my pics recently during my bout with a virus.)

When you finish your layout I would love to see it. Your artwork on the engine drawings is really good. The first one is so colorful, wow. I bet that would drive the paint shop crazy. [:D]

Woo hoo![8)]

Two BNSF painted GP35s lashed with a blue and yellow warbonnet GP30 pulling a whopping 3 centerbeam flats. I presume the return was going to be a bit heavier, but probably not enough to justify the three loco combo. I believe the only industries on our branch are a flour mill and a lumber yard.

Just today, I saw a CN mixed consist on the EJ&E line through Barrington, IL. Couldn't believe it![:D] I had never seen a CN loco let alone 2 of them, one of them being zebra striped. I only go through Barrington about once or twice a week and rarely if ever get stopped by anything on the EJ&E. How surprised was I to see a CN train![:D] Got to get the pics developed!

Very happy![:D]

Today I saw a meet of the following....

Amtrak AEM7 - Northbound on the NEC
Amtrak Acela Exp - Southbound on the NEC
Setpa Regional - Southbound on the NEC

This happened about 2000 feet south of the Wilmington Amtrak Station. All 3 tracks were in use. The Septa train was seating while the 2 Amtrak trains passed. The Septa train sat for about 15 minutes after the pass and then reverse course and returned to the station, instead of continuing south to Newark, DE.

Had to go downtown area of Chicago today and saw a lot of UP action including a bunch of UPYs pulling flatbeds with military equipment. Also saw 4 Dash 9s (3 UP and a SP renumber) sitting along Lake St, before it goes under the El.

An odd sighting...maybe some St. Louis/Midwest folks could shed some light on this movement:

Was sitting in Taco Bell at Chouteau and Broadway in St. Louis and glanced out the window to see a UP and CSX engine leading a string of about 15-20 TOFC cars up the South approach to the MacArthur bridge from Lesperance Street towards the East side. The engines and cars looked very eighties to me for some reason. It's just so rare to see anything but Manufacturers engines pulling anything up that steep approach from Lesperance Street. Anyone else from the area ever seen anything like that on the South Approach? Almost choked on my nachos when I saw that... That made two rare sightings on the Big Mac - that move and the UP 3985 earlier in the morning.

Thanks, Mark

Shortly after 1 pm today I saw an empty coal train leaving town. UP 5946 was the pusher unit. I didn't see the head end only the tail. Just my luck. [;)]

Mookie crossing the diamonds at Rochelle. Well, maybe it wasn't Mookie, but it was a cat. Smart cat - no trains in sight.

Went for a run, 2:30PM CDT
8'39": stopped by BNSF double stack- BNSF H2 dash 9, NS dash 9, NS dash 8 not wide cab or it was SD50, NS dash 9
15'38": stopped by a lone NS dash 9 with a Triple Crown train- 1st time I seen lone NS on this line
22'10": 2 BNSF H2 dash 9s, 2 hoppers, hundred (probably) tank cars
40'00": empty well cars headed south, 2 SD40-2s: 1green, 1 dark blue

WHAT WAS THE DARK BLUE ENGINE? I think I've seen one like this before but not sure. It was too far away to see reporting marks, numbers.

UPDATE: The dark blue engine was a Montana Rail Link
