KCS #4001 remote controlled

recently UP had a car jump track and tore up the crossties realy bad but then the derailed car took out 1 of the control boxes and defect detector on the side
of the tracks i wander if the detector saw this comin or was it caught by suprise
[:0][:0][:0][xx(] what ever the case why hasnt up repaird it yet
and KCS has some bad tacks in Shreveport as well every time it rain they flood out how hard could it be to redo the road bed theres two main tracks the other is in need of leveling but is about 12-16 inches higher than the other track
they could at least put gravel down and raise the tracks about 3 inches
doble stacks clear this bridge by a foot[?]

Busy (and windy) day yesterday. Out runnin' stopped on the levy to take a break. Finshed stretching, heard a train comin', thought I'd wait. 10 engines on the lead. The first 4 or 5 were BNSF dash 9 herritage II paint, and then another dash 9, NS. Somewhere in there were 3 SD40-2s: 2 in BNSF orange, 1 in ATSF blue/yellow. The very last one was ATSF red/silver dash 8. WOW! Followed by a consist of 78 cars, mostly well cars, all full, some flat cars had only the trailer chasis, no trailer or container. Kansas City/Chicago bound.

Next, BNSF ripped up a siding track in town. And the "rail-fan-confuser car" is back. It's got a crane with it. Section track is built and set aside ready to be installed. Looks like the crossover track section.

MoPac hoppers 582756 and 582403 unloading coal at Ft Drum, NY, along with several Soo, HLMX (some marked KCL/KCPL, or something like that), and AEPX hoppers. This doesn't sound like VA/WV coal. Anybody have any idea where it's from, based on the reporting marks?

The other day while on the way to work I saw a train with flatcars loaded with Army trucks. They were all in the desert brown paint.

Tonight I saw what I thought were 2 N S units. After considerable driving and trying to get another look at them determined they were not NS units but units from a leasing company. One did look like an ex NS unit while the other one had the blue and white of Conrail on it. I just couldn't get close enough to get the correct names or numbers. [:(]

The mix of foreign power continues in our area. It is kind of nice to see other power though. When you are used to seeing only "your" local railroad power then see such a mix as now is happening it takes some getting used to. Foreign power used to be an oddity, now it is a daily occurance. [:p]

I have also noticed several ballast trains around here lately. I don't know where they were going. They were yarded when I saw them so I don't know which direction they might have been going. [B)]

I just returned from a "I hear a train, quick let's go see it" trip. lol [:D]

Here is what I saw:

UP 6064 Flag unit
UP 6740

FSR 47016
ARMN 972967
ARMN 972986
ARMN 110185
MP 260374
EEC 1407
NS 165471

That was all the numbers I could write down quickly, the dog kept blocking my view. [:(] Will see if she gets to go railfanning with me anymore. [}:)] [:p] [;)]

This past Thursday afternoon, 4/1/04, while driving through Woodbury, NJ, I got lucky and saw a train coming up the CSAO line heading toward Camden. Naturally I pulled off the road to watch the train go by.
I got even luckier when I saw what was pulling the train.
The first loco was UP 4801 with a flag. Second unit was NS 8343.
First time I've seen a UP flag unit.
Too bad I didn't have my camera with me.

Can someone tell me what kind of loco the 4801 is?
I'm not too familiar with UP locos.
Thanks.

I made another "I hear a train, quick let's go see it" run today. [:D]

Yes Duchess did get to go too. She was a little better this time and I got to write down more numbers. [:p]

The reason I did the fast run to the tracks was I heard the horn and it was a good sounding horn so I wanted to see if it was a UP unit or not.

Here are the results:

NS 8862 (it was in the lead and had the nice sounding horn)
UP 1872

Some of the cars in the consists were:

CRLE 524705

CNW 752593
CNW 156004
CNW 170150
CNW 96090 (I might have missed a number here, I am not sure)
CNW 1640xx (I know I missed a number here)

IMRL 50062 (an EX SOO Car)

CN 712013
CN 712247

RJCM 4502 (My first sighting of a RJ Corman car that I know of seeing [:)] )

I made a trip to Little Rock today and just for fun stopped by the old Union Station. While there a train came by. I was very lucky in that I was just driving through the parking lot and wow, here it came. I bearly got stopped in time to get the notebook out and start writing numbers. [:0] [:p] [:)]

CSX 560
CSX 8128

ATW 80525
EJE 7019 or 7019#
CN 704138
TBOX 665871
CN 413003
CN 413029

Now there are always more cars than I can write down, so I try to get cars other than UP since there are tons of UP here. [:)]

dbld1218...............from the post on 3-27..................I think that was the Alstom SD40 rebuild program demonstrator unit........I have seen it once and run it once............I saw one of the ONLY 3 built GP40P-2s for SP in the 70s for commuter service in San Francisco....it is now freshly repainted in UP paint and is numbered 1373....it is ex-SP 3198 the middle unit built of the three.
