They're still at it today. [:p] Just heard them on the scanner talking to the northbound on where they'd get off the rails to let him by.

And TODAY I saw a Rio Grande hopper amidst a bunch of CSX hoppers, unloading at the steam plant at the Fort. Reporting marks were HCLX, if I remember right.

Tonight on the way home from work I saw Amtrak leaving town. They must have been pretty much on schedule. What caught my attention was the two red markers at the end of the train. As I go over the railyard I notice the blinking FREDs, tonight I noticed two steady lights. [:p]

I sure would have like to have been on it taking a nice sighting trip across the country. Well one of these days. [;)]

Lots of action at the Iron triangle in Fostoria.Seems the tower operator was holding the ns trains for a longger time.so they ran 2 at a time through the triangle.checked out the C&O yard and saw an old B&O chessie caboose and Nora after you left NS sent an engine to pick up some hoppers at the grain mill.

Well, here's what I DIDN'T see:

6 trains.

I was out running today and in the span of about an hour and ten minutes I heard 9 trains, 3 of which I saw. I saw the first one but I was high up on a hill and the train was well over a half mile away so I couldn't get a good look at it but most of the railcars were black with bright orange tops. It didn't look quite as high as a coal hopper, but it was taller than a gondola.

The next 6 trains I heard. Agonizing not being able to see them. The last 2 I saw. Northbound double stack and a southbound grain hoppers. That latter one came to a screeching halt. I'm gonna guess he was going to switch subdivisions and couldn't, of course, because of the north bound. A southbound train would have to cross over to the other main and then to the other sub.

Interesting stuff.

What I saw today isn't train related but it is toooooo funny not to share. [:D] [;)] [}:)]

I live in an area of small rolling hills. Today two Einsteins [}:)] were trying to load a frig into the back of a Chevy pickup. Now get this. They were parked on the road which had a slope to it. [:)] (You can smell trouble already. [:D] ) The cab was parked on the uphill with the bed downhill. These two could have pulled the truck into the drive way but nooooooooooooooooooooooo. [}:)] The frig is tied to a dolly and one of them is in the bed of the truck while the other one lifts the frig (or should I say tries to lift the frig) uphill. Not exactly the smartest two tacks in the box. [:p] OK, now they somewhat get it started but not very high. Guess what? Gravity takes over. The one guy can't lift it any higher and the guy up top can't keep it there. [}:)] The gravity check proved good. lol lol lol So this frig and dolly go rolling downhill for a ways. [8D] That is until the friction from the handle finally stops it. I wish I had a video camera and could have filmed it for America's Funniest Home Videos. These two guys were just tooo funny. [:D] [:D] [:D]

While at lunch in Harrisburg, PA.....I saw 3 NS trains. One Intermodal moving westboud, with 3 wide body GEs, 2 NS, one Conrail. 10 minutes later on the same track a mixed freight with 2 Dash 9's pulled up past the old PRR passenger station and stopped while a South bound coal train with 2 Dash 9's and a high nose EMD blew through town. There was also an Amtrak P42 # 19 sitting at the passenger station w/ three coaches in tow. Not bad for a half hour walk at lunch

Early this afternoon while in downtown North Little Rock and crossing over the Main Street bridge I saw a green/white BN unit (not a wide nose) and behind it was a Blue/Yellow SF unit. BNSF has trackage rights on some UP track thanks to the UP SP merger. I am not sure how many trains BNSF run through here. I see one occassionally. This train had just crossed over the Bearing Cross bridge (the railroad bridge between North Little Rock and Little Rock) and was heading North.

Maybe some of the BNSF people can give us more info on the number of train BNSF run through here now thanks to the merger. I know BNSF has a couple of engines in the industrial park/port area. When they first introduced service here that had 2 freshly painted engines that looked very nice. After a while those engines were yanked outta here and replaced by something the cat dragged in. This is the number listed on their home page.

At ANY Union Pacific at-grade crossing, there should be a small (4 x 6) bright blue sign with white lettering with the "800- PANIC" number on it. Most railroads have something similar with the DOT# and the PANIC number on it at the crossing. If there is a signal bungalow/ doghouse at the crossing, the numbers are stencilled there as well......

This past weekend I saw Morristown and Erie Alco C-424 sitting at the old Kennett Square PA. train station waiting for its next run. There was a wire running to the loco from the station.

To Jim
what SLIC meant was a slug has no fuel operated engine just the traction motor
it uses to help move the train B units or power packs do
yard and road slugs use power from a loco to create the traction effort
but you are right ill give you that one [8D]
