i think thats dumb.

i still like doin pennys

Really dumb indeed.   Not to mention a violation of law and dangerous.  Anything "thrown" at a train has a very good chance of being thrown right back at you or someone else.  Even a penny on the rail, if placed just right, can "shoot" out to the side like a bullet when hit by a wheel.  Bike parts would be like spears.

Then there is the potential risk to the train itself, such as a bike handle fouling the brake line.  In the right circumstances (unlikely but it could happen), such as near a turnout or flangeway, some thing like that could derail a train if it is enough to fill the flangeway.

Erdmann,

No matter how "trivial" it seems.........if and when you see people putting objects on tracks or throwing them the RIGHT action to take is to quietly head over to a telephone (or go to a place where they won't see you use your cell phone) and call the police a.s.a.p.

Last year here in Tampa a couple of teens placed an object on a mainline. A CSX freight train hauled by two locomotives derailed, injuring the crew.  They could have just as easily been killed.  So needless!

In Ireland a few years back, a couple of young men placed a concrete parking stop on the tracks. The engineer of the passenger train that struck it was killed.......a family man.

Situations like this should never be taken lightly.

Some people just dont have any common sence. When i was in training for the wc we ran a train to the cp soo yard in milwaukee. On our way out of the yard with about 13-20 empties in tow. we see a guy up ahead fishing of a small rail tressel, this one was single rail and just big enough for the train, no walk way. We sounded the horn a couple of times the retard just turned and looked and didnt move! the engineer was not to happy and held the horn and finally he got up and started to run, realizing we were moving faster then he thought. by this time we had all brakes applied and we missed him by inches. If we had full loads, he would of went for a ride and possible been killed.  All that for a stupid fish out of a muddy river.  Their are alot of people that just dont understand how long it takes to stop a train no matter how small, and that think its funny to throw things at them, not understanding the consquences.

In Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canadian Pacific crews are on slow train orders throughout the west side of that town. Reason being is that kids love putting things on the rails including lumber right across from one rail to the other. A person was telling me they saw one crew that had to stop the train, blocking a number of level crossings, get off the train to clear debris off the tracks.

One other time a Canadian Pacific train was crossing the trestle across the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon. One guy thought it was funny to do a dance step as the train was nearing him.

Both of the above are canditates for the Darwin Award.

What time does CN run to New London on Saturdays? I was under the impression that was a night-only railroad.

Sturm Foods in manawa revives loaded boxcars of powderd milk for their milk mixes & oatmeals.

in new london curwood is the big one recvieves polyearthpane pellets in acf cars has 4  soon to be 5 spurs.

als the old gbw running track has pulpwood cars that trucks come in & load up & the railroad takes them away.
