One generally doesn't refer to people or objects in the manner you have unless there's at least a good bit of loathing involved, if not outright hate. And considering that there's a large population of kids that frequent this site and these forums, I still think it's in really bad taste depite your protestations of it's "truth."

Chris, your wasting your time. Some people just HAVE to complain, and I think this here is one of them. Oh, and grow up a little bit, saying "youpee" really makes you look like a 2 year old.

hate goes too far. UP still pulls a nice train if you're at the right place at the right time. the more i think about how deep i used to hate them, i the more i question myself for it. it was hate directed entirely at the appearance of locomotives, which dont even make up 5% of a typical manifest!

the heritage rogram is good, but i fealt they used a poor choice of locomotive for it. but that's my love for SD60s talking there

I'm wondering if you have read anything I've said all the way through, or if you just stopped to complain or try to post an insult because you had to guess what I (or others) were trying to say when you got the big words? Try Googling "esspee rr", "yoopee rr" or "youpee rr" and Email an insut or complaint to all the people who have used it before you get mad at me. "2 year old", is that the best you can do? If you had a 2 yr. old that could type or spell "youpee" you shold be proud. Why not try responding in a nice way? Do you try to insult everyone who has an opinion other than what you have or is it only someone who doesn't like your favorite RR? I wonder what you'd say to somebody who doesn't like (or God forbid, "HATES") your favorite food? Did you get upset when reporters said that "North Korean missles blew up" after launching? Why not get mad at people who spell it "UP" and not "U.P."? After all someone might think they are saying the opposite of "DOWN". I will say it once more for the ones who missed it before. I may dislike some of the things the Youpee has done, but I do not hate the Youpee RR. And trust me, it ain't going to P.O. (and I don't mean Post Office) the Pope if somebody spells phonetically! Try starting from the beginning before you fly off the handle.

We, the Northwestern, were trying to get out of  Oelwien in the late 1970s.  We were disapointed it took so long
I know the abandonments started in '81. I am disappointed that C&NW did get out of Oelwein. What used to be the hub of CGW, and had some of the best locomoitve shops in the US, is no moreSad [:(] (well, 3 trains a week, via a branchline, but its NOTHING like it used to be- no I wasnt around to see it in CGW days)

That sounds close-minded to me. It sounds like you want to say whatever you will and call it a fact without having any opposition or fact checking to challange your (or our) inaccuracies. If you want to make sure your addition is correct you have to do some subtraction.
Anyone who has posted that someone "hates UP" and are thinking of me, they're flat out wrong. I have a problem with that ( I don't want to be missquoted and rather not be missunderstood ) and would want the chance correct a fault. Sure, there are some things I don't like (and have stated them elsewhere) about them, but I never said I hate them. Youpee used to send their calendars to my Grandpa (when I was young and he was alive) because he did something for them in the '20s or '30s. I liked the yellow and gray, but back then there had silver trucks and the top of the nose was green. I like the wings, but liked them better on a verranda or 8500 gass turbine. When you don't get to see something, you want to see, very often it's a treat when you do see it and it means something. But when you see it all the time it looses meaning and might become sickening. It just sucks for me, and some others, to go someplace that used to special, because that is where we get to see Youpee trains. But now there is nothing special about it because we can see the same thing at home
I like GP38s and 38-2s just fine, but I like them better in scarlet and gray.

what? the fact you edited half the quote to sound close minded? and just what is wrong with saying I like U.P? And What I did say, is factual. now if you have something that states otherwise, i want to see it, if not don't say i'm close minded about U.P.

and saying YouPee, is really immature and annoying...

They don't like UP because it bought another railroad? thats called business. they have to much yellow in their paint scheme? thats heritage. (IMO, its an attractive scheme, especially the flag units) I guess if CN bought BNSF, CN would be hated for buying BNSF who has (probably) more railroads in it's heritage than UP ever will.

If you don't like UP fine, But don't bring your dribble here.

My 2 cents [2c]

long live UP!

Oh yeah, Whatever UP's actual reasons for painting the heritage units is, at least they are trying to preserve the heritage of the railroads absorbed into it, and the fact they keep some steamers and a DD40AX in operational condition is exceptional. Well done UP.

Yes, I edited out more than half of your comment to use it as an example as to where some might might stand and as to why some people would want to bring "dribble" or there reasons why they might dislike or hate UP, U.P., Yoopee or Youpee. I should have included, "This could be an example (not to single out james saunders) as to why some people might....", in my statement, and sorry if I offended you becaus of it. What I said was factual too. There is nothing wrong with saying you like U.P., as I like some things about the RR too. But there could be smomething wrong with saying "There is nothing wrong with U.P."(not saying that you [james saunders] did) This goes for everyone, just like saying "I like the Dallas Cowboys (or whatever sports team)", don't expect to go on without some ribbing.
If you were to have read my reply before this one, I am not the first, last or only one to spell "Yoopee" or "Youpee". BTW, is it because I spell it "You" instead of "Yoo" that makes it immature? The reason I spell it "You" is because "oo" can be pronounced more than one way (as in "boo!" or "book") and "you" is pronounced one way (as far as I know, rimes with "boo!")
6900s, DD35s, GP30bs, GP9bs, SD40-2s, SW10s, FEF3s, Chalangers, Big boys, and the Big Blow & Veranda gas turbines are some things I like about the Youpee. I wll neve foreget one of the first trains I saw climbing the Blues. It was mixed manafest with five SD40-2s on the point and the second unit was an SW10. James, did you foreget to mention the nice rebuilt A-B-B-A set of E9s they run? I got to see them, some years back, going over the Oregon Cascades xEsspee Natron Cutoff mainline, North to Portland.
Paranoid or overprotective acting Youpee cops and security preventing our eforts to get some night  and morning shots (taken from public property) are just some things I (and others) have against them. (This was well before 9/11)
If you have further issues about me let me know. I am tired of extremists on both sides an do not think I am one. Also when I here or read someone saying the Youpee isn't their favorite RR, it gets very annoying when someone assumes they hate the Youpee.

First of all, I dont like CN one bit. Do you see my bitching and moaning about them ALL THE TIME because they bought my favorite road? No, and Im probably, matter of fact, i know im younger then you. Yet I act much more mature than you? And if you think im coming across rude, then how about you try not coming across annoying. Oh, you dont like my little 2 year old joke hmm, fine by me. Ive only seen a handful on this site spell UP like you, and all of them are imature. Your probably an ok guy, but with all of this crying and complaining, no one here would ever know...

Cough, Cough...I don't think so. If your really want to get into the phonetics of "ou," then let's have at it. BTW, if that's the case, I don't like the "ee" sound phonetically. After all, eerie isn't pronounced the way you're using it.

As it is, you're doing an incredible job of acting your shoe size and not your age, whatever that may be. Even without your excuse of the phonetic spelling (which is just that, an excuse) the rest of your signature is vulgar, and NOT appropriate for some of the visitors to this site.

One final note, if you're looking for the phonetic alphabet version of "U.P." I think you'll find that the military is content to use "Uniform Papa." I suggest if you keep up with your phonetics that you consider using it.

Grow up, or find a forum more suitable to your poor tastes.

EDIT: I just noticed the absolute irony of your "ou" bit. Did you fully realize that you were using those particular letters for a vowel sound in a way other than what you decided to use it for? Check out "pronounced." Classic! Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

WP 3020, listen to me, you do NOT want to walk the same path as i did. you will be grilled and people will hate you more than you hate UP. do i like UP? well they ARE trains in the end. and that's what matters to me. trains. it's all about the trains. and while CNW is a memory and their locomotive roster has been reduced to a few GP7s scattered across the country and 2 crash 9s, all of the train behind the UP locomotives will never change. while i greatly miss CNW, that is not the prime reason i dislike UP. it is moreso because they got rid of so many train jobs on the track in Eau Claire and Altoona, making my railfanning more difficult. i have no problem fanning UP, but it'd be nice to see some trains on the line more often. so i hope their track work pays off

To those of you who hate UP-

That fine if you've got your opinions, but few of you have a valid reason for hating them.

"But UP took over my favorite railroad" UP does have a habit of taking over other railroads. Either they're doing sometihng right, or they've had a stroke of luck, maybe both.

About UP patching motive power- yes it does lose its "heritiage" but what does whining about it help? I can see saying once "It's too bad the CNW 8575 was patched", but no sense crying over it. She had a nice funeral (I was unable to attend) -No sense crying over spilled milk, clean it up instead.

Chris, slow down! Your pants are below your knees. You're tripping.  I didn't say "ou" can only be pronounced one way. I said "you" (as in "You missquoted and/or didn't correctly read my statement"). When I looked it [you] up, in Webster's, there is only one word spelled "You" listed and only one way to pronounce it. Ironic and classic indeed.

Your one final note wasn't your one final note.

I wasn't looking for the "phonetic alphabet version".(takes up too much space)  I said "phonetically", as in, "pho-net-i-cal-ly  2 : representing the sounds and other phenomena of speech: as  a : constituting an alteration of ordinary spelling that better represents the spoken language"- Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.
Do or did Esspee fans make this big of fuss because of the phonetical spelling? I never heard them (SP fans) say (to those who wrote it in books) that they were "immature", or that they should "grow up".

If you have served in the United States military, I thank you very much for your service!

If my "signature is vulgar and NOT appropriate" I'm sure the powers that be would have contacted me have had removed, by now. But the quotes are true. I'm sure you hear worse things being a concrete estimator, so you can't be that offended. At least you show some smarts not being a finisher. (no offence to finishers ,been there done that) If enough people suggest, request, or vote, (will except bribes) I may replace one or two quotes with one or two of theese quotes.

YAWN.....

What amazes me is that you STILL think that what you've been saying is somehow not imature. I guess your just one of those people that cant be told anything unless someone has a badge (I know many people like that BTW). Quit whining, life goes on, and learn how to talk like your age.

The only beef I have with Uncle Pete has to do with the royalties licensing, not that they shouldnt have the right to do so, but the way they've been handling it. Very heavy-handed and clumsy.

This has more to do with Uncle Petes legal department behaving like the Mob, "you WILL pay da protecti...I mean licensing fees.. or we'za  gonna breaka you legs with court actions!" and they have been behaving with almost that kind of attitude. Even suggesting that casual photographers might be subject to legal action for simply taking pictures of anything showing UPs logo. Thats just psychotic, it seams like they've since reconsidered the more heavyhanded threats like that, but they are extracting a sizable licensing fee from model RR's and commercial photographers who will have to pass on these license fees to us, Mr & Mrs Consumer.

Its this behavior, all while airing great patriotic TV commercials just striked me as wrong headed.

Other than that, they still have what I consider one of the best paint schemes out there. Better than NS's black hearses, better than CSX grey billboards, better than BNSFs resurrected GN inspired orange and black, but not as nice as the classic SF warbonnet! Smile [:)]

I hate to bring it to ya.....but the BNSF is going to do the same thing as the UP and CSXT did.

That is very true. But like they say.....The Railroads must protect their logos and how they are used. So now that the BNSF going forth,NS and others will follow.
