I think that SP only bought Tunnel Motors during the Dash Two era. I don't remember ever seeing an SD40-2 ever delivered new to SP.
They had lots of tunnel motors, however.

Correct, SP never bought any SD40-2s, new or used. In their roster they call the SD40Rs SD40-2s, at least in the one I have.

I just Googled "Lucien Cutoff" and clicked on the third one under "http://historytogo.utah.gov/utah_charters/statehood_and_the_progressive_era/thelucincutoff.html" has a lot of info.It sounds, to me, as if Harriman had it done unde the SP in 1906.I know MK did the rebuilding work later on, but can't remember when. One of our club members had a video, I think was called, Mariners in hard hats that documented its rebuilding.
