  • IAIS- Iowa Interstate System-It is a railroad that runs the old Rock Island Lines main line from Blue Island, Il. to Council Blufs, Ia. ( That's just east of Omaha for those in Az)
IAIS bought two 2-10-2's from China and they just arrive a week ago in Houston and I believe the BNSF is hauling them up To Rock Island, Il. to connect with IAIS.
Also I believe there are at least two other Chinese Steam engines in the U.S. working on excursion runs.
  • I'm not sure if IAIS bought them, but they will be 'testing' them in freight service until a buyer is found.

  • Ed has sent me a picture of him next to one of these locos as the PTRA handled the movement at the Houston Port. Ed may know of the schedule for the delivery. If Ed doesn't see this thread Archie, you might like to drop him a line on his email address, which is on his profile.

    Cheers

  • Heartland bought them but then Heartland owns IAIS. As an update from me here in the beautiful city of Rock Island Illinois I can say next week will be interesting! Friends of the 261 are coming and bringing the 261 along to haul their trainset here and then home. The QJ's will double head their trips ( someone even said there just might be you never know a triple header) to a variety of locations here in the area,

Heartland has an option to buy 4 more and of course the rumor mill is running rampant as of now in the rail and foamer community here.If any of you come down to RI during this time please drive safe and wave if you see an ogre in a jeep! ( that would be me)

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

  • I went to Rock Island to see the QJs and 261 and here's what I got.

Enjoy the photos of these nice looking engines! Lots more of them are on railpictures, including the 2 QJs and 261 triple-heading!

  • Thanks for the pictures, Any idea what they are going to do with them? Like run them in freight service?

Of course then I wake up.

  • They did run a freight the Monday after the excursions from Rock Island to Iowa City. They then ran light to Newton where they are now stored looking for a new home. They probably won't be running again for Iowa Interstate. They are up for sale.

  • Well Let's see NS has leased or sold Sharpsburg Yard to the Allegheny Railroad, Southwest Pa R.R has the Glenwood ( B&O) Yard  they both do excursions ,and use the P&W ( Bakerstown grade) .

All I have to do is to convince them to buy the engines and I have them running at the end of my street!

    How's that for fantasy??

  • Well, since all of our model trains are made in China anyway - it would be neat could somebody import a model of one of these things...
