A friend of mine had that set years ago when it was the big thing to have TYCO.  And I thought it was a piece of junk back then too.  Its hilarious to see this.

What part of the whole description isn't unreal?  The description of the graphics is incredible, uh, incredulous, uh, really something!

I'm wondering if this guy just buys a lot of stuff at garage sales and had the train set and a display case laying around and figured if he put them together and gave it a real "slick" write-up some gullable star eyed innocent would cough up the big bucks for it.

Otherwise it just doesn't make any sense.

In other words,  "it is junk wrapped in plastic."    The last statement about the two felt pieces on the back is unreal.

Are there any TYCO collectors out there that can give us a real price on this set????  I would guess we will not hear from any collectors on this item.

I am sorry!   I just could not resist the comment.

HERE IS A TYCO CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO ELECTRIC TRAIN SET THAT IS STILL SEALED IN IT'S ORIGINAL CELLOPHANE WRAPPER IN MUSEUM QUALITY CONDITION THAT IS ALSO SEALED INSIDE A BEAUTIFUL ACRYLIC DISPLAY CASE MADE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY!!! THIS IS REALLY A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE FOR YOUR TRAIN ROOM OR FOR THE DIE-HARD TYCO COLLECTOR LIKE ME-THE CASE HAS TWO KEYHOLES ON THE BACK FOR WALL MOUNTING!!! OR IT CAN STAND ALONE-AS MOST OF US KNOW, THE CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO IS PROBABLY TYCO'S MOST FAMOUS TRAIN SET AND THE GRAPHICS ON THE BOX ARE JUST AWESOME AND IN SOME WAY TAKE US BACK IN TIME TO OUR CHILDHOOD-PRODUCED IN 1976, THIS SET IS HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER-WILL BE PROFESSIONALLY PACKED AND SHIPPED VIA UPS-SHIPPING WILL BE 50.00-THE PRICE TAG ON THIS SET IS PRETTY STEEP I KNOW BUT I'VE HAD A LOT OF OFFERS TO SELL AND I'M FINALLY GOING TO TRY IT-IF NOT THAT'S OK TOO BECAUSE I LOVE THIS SET-GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND THANKS FOR LOOKING!!!( THE TWO WHITE PIECES ON THE BACK ARE FELT STRIPS SO IF THIS IS WALL MOUNTED THE SCREWS WON'T TOUCH THE ACTUAL SET!!)

Nope. We're now officially a niche market, but those ads were for toy trains anyway.

The Chattanooga was a good looking consolidation, and was also made by Mantua as a kit with the motor in the loco. The only reason I wanted the engine as a kid was because it was almost a dead-ringer for Black River & Western #60, which I rode a lot back then.

Good thing he loves this set, at opening price he's going to have it a long time.

As to "Now I've seen it all!!!", if he should find someone crazy enough to buy-imagine the flood gates opening to even more nutso offerings.

Ugh. Nightmare indeed. Wonder how many takes they did to get it right. That little payday sign along with the slow mo shot of the driving wheels working just like the real thing... was a touch. (Never mind that the tender is actually PUSHIng that loco)

Today's models are under such a microscope compared to the way back machine.

Well I cut my HO teeth on a Tyco Chatanooga Choo Choo set when I was about 4.  It was not the steam loco but a bright orange and yellow GP20 with a pensy style steel caboose painted the same color.  It was a fun train and it stayed in my family until last december when I sold it and a few other Tyco HO things at a club fund raiser (I got $20 for the whole thing)  There was a still working GP20 loco in that set as well.  I used to change the shells when I would get bored running the BN or CCC to the other.  My best friend had the Silver Streak set and we used to Race the trains, Count how many laps around the track each train could do in 5 minutes or till one derailed.

I also had the Tyco slot cars both with the magnatraction and without.  I would wear holes in the pickup shoes all the time.

Does anyone remember the Tyco Turbo Train?  Yea had one of them too.  It was in that set that I sold in Dec and it too worked.

Those were all good memories of my childhood but not good enough for me to drop $400 on when that same $400 can buy me 3 good locos or alot of rolling stock.

I saw it in 1976 and didnt buy it then, and still wouldnt take it if you gave it to me free.

The best thing going for this is the song that relates to this train, and they made it completely toyish. This is the thing that appeared in Sears/Wards/etc christmas catalogues in the hobby section for children. Its soo... cute...its the chatanooga choo choo!!!

IMO it almost gave model railroading a bad name and gave Tyco a very large black eye.

I remember when the Furby's came out. Man! That was a mess! There were two guys at Wal-Mart fighting over the last one on the shelf, two off-duty cops, no less!

I remember the "Year without christmas shopping"... around 1986 or so. There was a electric tension in the malls all around for the Cabbage Patch dolls. Police blotters regularly filled with reports of assault/battery from customers desperate for one that season.

I was given a priveldge of hauling a complete trailer load of Pokemon late in my driving years and frankly going straight into a distribution facility full of toys was not fun. Especially one that was in particularly high demand and had to be treated as a secret. I had more lucrative offers on the cargo at the dock than even the juciest damaged steaks.

I remember the beanie babies too.

If you don't want the Silver Streak, there are literally dozens of Beanie Babies that have been donated for free to the rummage sale.  $0.50 each!  So much for investment grade stuffed animals.  I remember well making a trip back home to the UK and a friends wife begging me to look for the Princess Diana bear.  I found 1 in a store in Stratford Upon Avon, they wanted 200GBP for it or about $300 in those days.  I refused to get it.  She was mad with me for weeks!!

I know this is getting way off course, but I knew a woman that bought tons of these things (Beanie Babies) when they were still "popular" thinking that she was going to send her daughter to college on money made from them selling them in the future. I knew folks that were completely obsessed with these things to the point that they had them tucked in every corner of their homes, cars, and offices.

And they say our hobby is weird! I know a couple ladies that have 5 tubfulls of those things. Why waste your money on it!

I think the rummage sale may be asking a bit much at $2.00!

I had one of those Silver Streak sets at one time. Silver Freak is more like it! I wouldn't give two counterfeit cents for the danged thing.

Be aware that the tender drive systems sometimes a different set of gears from the other locos.

Only if it's the chrome Silver Streak. Otherwise, forget it.

Hi Loather, I will keep you in mind. Everything is packed up in storage right now for moving and it will probably be a few months. I'll let you know if I can't get it to run without a fight, if I can't the gear housing is yours. Which gear do you need. The small beveled metal drive gear, the big gear taht keeps popping out, or one of the two small drive gears.
