Really nice touch with the dead tree (far left of pic). The colour is spot on.

Did you model it or did it come with the landscape background.

Lets see it!  Don't be shy!
And don't quote the photos.

A maintenance crew steps out of the way as a foreign WP freight runs through White River Gorge (club layout).

As usual, click the photo to enlarge.

The work shown in this thread just continues to blow me away!

Thanks for being so willing to share of your work....everyone!

I know it can sometimes be tough to open yourself up to show your handiwork like you have.  I mean, it can open you up to mean spirited objections and so on.

Thanks for putting yourselves on the line, so to speak.

QUOTE: Ray: Your stunning OZ modeling has finally shown up through my browser. My maternal grandfather was an engineer on the line that runs around what we were taught in school to call "The Great Australian Bight". Never met him to really talk to.

Your Grandfather would have been a very tough man to have worked on that line, it is all desert without a tree (the Nullabor Desert - Null abor - no trees). It runs from Adelaide in South Australia to Perth in Western Australia, a long way.

I like your painted backscene, real depth there.

I made the mistake of having backscenes only 16" high, not a real problem until I started to take pics then all the tall scenery has a brick wall behind them, so I moved to putting real backscenes into my pics digitally.

Here are two pics, one showing my low backscenes and the other has had the sky digitally extended upwards to cover the brick wall, no real photo this time, just using what I had already painted.

The real backscene challenges you to work on your modelling and scenery so that it matches in.

der5997,That backdrop looks great!! Yeah I got a little bit of vertical line, horizontal too for that matter in the coved corners. It doesn't show in photos but its there in real life. After tacking up the matboard I used sheetrock mud to feather it in, I just got in a hurry and didn't want to put another coat on.

I thought that in Canada they always put extra A's in the letter setsSmile [:)]

You can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Terrific!
…Here’s the prototype that inspired the attempt.

Reklien:

Aw! go ahead and paint on the sheetrock. A good coat of Kilz will cover it up
…My preference would be to paint the wall. I liked what I was able to do on my Athabasca and Western (Had I realized the number of “A”s that name eats from a decal sheet, I’d have maybe thought twice about it)...here’s an example. I see that you have been able to feather in the artist’s matt board. How did you do that? (E-mail me if you like, or post over in the Trackside Diner if this is getting too off topic for the thread.) I really don’t like vertical lines in the sky!

The Sunkist building has also been permitted to show. Bow [bow] Regretfully very little else is getting through on this dial up. I guess it’s just too many pics for the 24K baud of my link.

I’ll leave with another shot of the A&W. The tressle was on a peninsula curve. The cross bracing did eventually get put on. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] (It’s an old photo from film and I’ve not got time to learn photoshop.)

A first time poster and I am already impressed. Now you say you model Wisconsin so I have a question for you. Do you have Byron Hill on your layout somewhere. I always love watching the trains climb out of the valley. BTW, Like the Milwaukee units.Approve [^]

5997, Aw! go ahead and paint on the sheetrock. A good coat of Kilz will cover it up nicely if you decide to take the train out or move. Actually I'm not all that cavalier but I did paint mine directly on the sheet rock after I coved the corners with artists matt board. I figure I can always repair it after. Heck I even moved a doorway to get more wall space. I covered a window with some static cling sky you can geet at the local home improvement store. Heres a couple examples.

reklien:

Now for some backdrop painting,Right?
...never one to do things right first time as far as mrr is concerned, so the backdrop will be a retro-fit.  I didn't want to paint directly on the sheetrock, so I'm favouring a plastic flashing material Philip put me on to. (No seams, if I can manage it.)  Trouble is the stuff isn't available in my part of Canada, and the shipping from the US for a roll of the material is about as much as the material itself.Banged Head [banghead]  It's 30 inches deep, so I figure I can cut it to fit all the way around the room, even allowing for the fact my layout climbs for much of that.  I've built the scenery to take this kind of plastic sheet backdrop.

I did paint directly on the sheetrock in the last house we had, but the train room had been customized for that with a curved corner where the helix went. Not able to do that here.

unca: You are way ahead of me! Please disregard the e-mial I sent before scrolling down the page.

Ray: My dumb browser is still reluctant to open pics in this thread, so your reportedly awesome modelling is still an occult art to me!

The upper tunnel on the Maritime Trunk curves to the left after the tunnel mouth.  I thought it would be interesting to make it appear to go straight on, so I built a light box with a tunnel exit scene.  Here's the result.

Don't get too close though, (hard to do physically in this room, but possible with a zoom lens). The effect is lost as one can see the tracks go left!

Looking at the pix with the little kid:  It wouldn't surprise me in the least, to hear that he's in the process of uploading photos to Photobucket, in the shot.  Somehow, the kids coming along today, come out of the womb knowing how to wrangle a computer.  Must be in the DNA now, or something.

Oh, pardon me!  I've got to go now.  The soldering gun is warmed up!

Okay, lets see if I can follow simple instructions!  If it appears below, then it was decently easy to do this.  Some backstory: after making this Suydam kit (first had to blow the cobwebs off it, I suspect it was diecut around 1958) I put it on a 12 inch square piece of plywood, and used old fashioned plaster over screen...happy accident came when trying to carve the curb on the street: went too low, and hit the screen, but it looks exactly like a sewer grate!  I took this photograph into an insurance company, to ask what RATE the underwriter thought would be proper to use, for such a structure.  He examined it a long time, finally asking me if it was stucco over frame.  "Oh, no, its just CARDBOARD."  He nearly fell out of his chair.  I went to the car and brought in the actual building, which REALLY freaked him out.  I like doing impish things like that, in my business (it can use all the humor it can GET.)

(hmmmmnnn...when I hit EDIT, I see that a long "url" thing is showing, just above this, but it did not magically become the PHOTO...does it take awhile???)

{edited again: yes, I see it DOES take a few minutes.}

Unca roggie

Here's the dumbed down version:

We don't post pics on the forum with attachments.  Instead we upload our pics to a website like www.photobucket.com Go there and open a free account.  Upload your pics (just follow their prompts)...each pic will be assigned 3 different urls.  The one called IMG is the one you need to use to post pics on this forum.  When you compose your message in the forum message box, simply copy and paste the entire photobucket IMG url into the message.  As if by magic, the forum will go to photobucket and retrieve your pic from the IMG site you have specified, and stick it into your message. I usually reduce my pics to 400 x 600 format before I upload.  Hope that helps.  Cheers.
