My absolute favorite is my IORE, a swedish iron ore train from Rocco. It's brutal and I have never seen a grade it can't take and a load to heavy.

EMD - SW-1500

These are my most favorite. I like anything diesel really.

But, the second mouse gets the cheese!
I think after I boil everything down and make some painful choices, that my two favorite locomotives are--after everything is considered--two big, brutish, beautiful steamers.
1: DM&IRR M-3/4 2-8-8-4
2: Southern Pacific class AC-6 4-8-8-2
They did exactly what they were supposed to do, no more, no less, and they did it spectacularly.

EMD E's and F's, but spec. the E8--Frisco road of which I rode(well the passenger train pulled by it, anyway) in the 1960's.

My favorite (s) are: Great Northern R-2 2-8-8-2, M-2 2-6-8-0, N-3 2-8-8-0 and the O-8-the largest, most powerful Mikado ever built.
As for diesels, the SD45, and GN's various passenger equipped Fs--F3s and F7s.
Favorite steam locomotive: N&W Class J
Favorite diesel locomotive: Alco RS3
Favorite locomotive to run: SD40-2 (provided the toilet doesn't stink and the doors close)

My favorite steam loco is the NKP 2-8-4 Berkshire.

Who makes that??
NSlover92 wrote:There are tons of favorite railroad threads well there wouldnt be railroads with out locomotives so lets do a thread of your favorite locomotives. For me I have to say either the GG-1 or F-M H16-44
P.S. Thre are tons of favorite locomotive threads too.
For diesels, mine is the Baldwin RF-16, one of the Sharknose profile locos. I have several models of this one, the old Mantua die cast metal body, and 3 of them have Hobbytown of Boston drive units under them.
For steam, the Pacific 4-6-2. I've been involved with two of them in the prototype world. Back in the late 60's I worked on the GM&N #425, which ran for two years on the Valley Forge Scenic Railroad (which went nowhere near Valley Forge). It's currently owned by the Blue Mountain and Northern. Currently, I'm working with the crew rebuilding Pennsy K4s #1361 (hold the time jokes, we've heard them all), plus I have the Bowser HO model of it.
Steam:
PRR: K4, J1, SP: GS4
Diesel: RS3, GP9, GP40-2, F40PH, FP45, FL9, GE 44tonner
Electric: GG1

The GG-1 I just love it's body style, its sleek, fast and modern look with its elegant curves, as you probley found out by my sig. I am a huge pennsy fan. And the H16-44 there is just something about it, I think because I love high hoods and because they reak of early diesel, even if they didnt become as wide known as the F's and E's.
My favorite locomotive, hands down, would have to be the SD70ACe. It's big, powerful, and best of all, they make a great sound!
