Good Morning - Janie, I'll have a cup of the TH coffee and one of those donuts Bill brought in. I'll try that chocolate one with the orange stripes - is that a 'Tiger' donut?
Just popping in briefly this morning. Looks like I got here after Bill arrived, but before the rest of the breakfast crew came in.
Anyone heard on how Fergie's Dad's been doing? Also, Chuck and Kathy, how've you two been coming along? Seems like at least a few days (or more) since we've heard from you. Haven't heard from JP for a while, either. Maybe some of them will come by the Diner today.
I'll be at the window booth and polish off my donut before I head out.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hi Chloe, just a decaf before I head home for bed. Thanks!
Jeff, whose switcher (NW2/SW7? or similar) was that? Looks like a nice one, and good detail on that. You're right about that little ol' $10 camera being a keeper! That Hall type loco is unique, for sure. Looks like young David has another good camera - that Geep looks good too - where do you guys find all those nice locos, by the way?
Jerry, I'm with you - hope Sallie's stay in the nursing home will be brief and she can come back home soon.
Mark, I know you west coast folks (you, Sue, Chuck & Kathy and others) don't get up as early - I was talking about our people east of me, who I'd think would be up already. (They usually are!) Besides, if it's the weekend, some of us sleep in (though I didn't this Saturday a.m.).
to the Diner, NScaler! Have a cup of your favorite beverage on me, and just give our virtual server twins your food order. Sit a spell, and tell us about your layout and what you're modeling, etc. (We're nosy friendly and love to hear about others' layouts)
Grayson, good to hear your brother is healing up and getting better.
Rob, your space for the layout sounds good - since you get to help plan the addition for it, you can probably figure where the supports, windows and other things are to design the layout to best use the space. I see Dick's giving you all the tips I wouldn't know diddley-squat about on the finer points of additions.
Paul, were you folks wanting rain out your way, or have you not had the drought conditions we've had until Thursday?
And now it seems like I've got people on the forum riding on my performance, buying stocks and all??? Jeesh. You guys sure do have faith in me.
You betcha, Scott - those of us who've been here a while know you have good work habits, so we're pulling for you! Get those details ironed out, and get to the 1:1 'training'! (...little pun there... )
grayfox1119 wrote:Scott: Warren Buffet bought 2 billion $$ worth of stock in your new prospective company, so you had better believe there is tremendous pressure on you to perform well !!
See Scott, even Warren's heard about your good work habits!
And Jim in CG: CONGRATS! Thanks, Scott!

Update on our local MRR club move today - they had probably 1/2 to 2/3rds of the layout sections moved by the time I got laundry done and got there. The church had about six guys there to help with the move, and they must have moved stuff before. They were good at figuring out just how to turn, lift, etc. to get the stuff out the two doors to outside, around the railing and down the stairs (or just over the railing and down to a couple more of their guys below), and then down the ramp next door and into the new location. After we got all the big stuff moved, I got the Kirby vac and cleaned up the carpet in the old place (after another club member had taken a broom across it to gather up most of the bigger pieces of plaster or junk pieces on the floor. After we got it all in place in the new location, we got sodas for the church helpers (somebody had brought several boxes of donuts earlier), thanked them and they were on their way. Then almost all of the club members went out for pizza for lunch (one had to head home and two others weren't there - one was on vacation in Branson and the other was working and couldn't get off). Next we'll be working on re-joining sections, patching up join areas and (later) some additional track areas. We're looking at a staging yard in the back, plus making an additional section (and some changes in a couple of the older sections) so we'll have continuous running capability. That, and our club president decreed that we will have a turntable(!)
Well, better get myself going. Have to head home and get some sleep (even though I was worn out some and took a couple or three hour nap this afternoon). Prayers for Sallie, Gloria, Grayson's brother, and everyone else's health and healing, comfort and peace.
Dick, all Excellent advice! I did about half the plumbing in our new house myself. Several of the valves the other guy did started leaking as soon as I had to use them. I have replaced those valves with the expensive versions, so I should never need to worry about them again. If others give out, I will upgrade those as well.
Because we are on well water, I have a filter between both the well and the new house. Yes, high mineral content here. It is time to change the filter when the water starts to smell of iron & I would guess also sulfer. I've opted for CPVC throughout, so no copper or welds.
Also had the really hard foam insulation blown on all walls & in attic, and the thicker (but lighter) foam blown in cielings for sound dampening. House is tighter than a tick and I have not seen a single pipe sweat anywhere. My current workshop (garage) stays quite comfortable year round. It will connect by a door right into the new Train Room which should be no different. The wife calls this place "The Syrofoam Cup House". I've only turned on the AC in the middle floor about a dozen times this summer. Very efficient home, the opposite of our cabin. With almost everything turned off over there, the bill is outragous, so had the power company replace the meter.
Well, that's enough for now. Thanks again for all the very good suggestions.
Rob
Hey there y'all.
Norfolk Southern Update:
It is going to be even longer before I get a date to report to Georgia. I had to give a second hair sample for drug testing because the doctor that originally did it (or...X-ray technician I should say doing his first hair collection) did not give me everything to sign and initial, so NS could not use that sample. And, NS also needs complete medical of my broken arm incident from six years ago within two weeks. So, more stuff needs to be done before my training begins.
I'm out y'all.

Evening Gang: We had a little more rain today. Not a lot but enough to get things damp again. I'm hoping that it stops for a few days and lets the hay dry out. The weather guessers say very little chance tomorrow and no rain untill late Wednesday. We'll see.
Not much else going on. Mary Ann and I spent the afternoon watching a movie on CD. The Profisionals with Lee Marvin. A great flik.
It's bed time.

ROB: I have many years of learning the do's and don'ts of overhead plumbing, so from what you told me already, I would recommend that you place Shut-Off valves on both the Hot and Cold water lines BEFORE the entrance to the new area. Make sure they are 90 degree BALL VALVES, NOT Gate Valves. Gate valves get hard to turn over time if they are not exercised regularly. Ball Valves can be shut off real fast also. And get the valves that have a bleeder screw on them in case you need to drain the line in the future, they cost a little more but more than worth the extra cost.
Also, buy insulation for both the hot and cold water lines. If you have ever seen a cold water line in the basement in a hot humid day after you have been drawing cold water, then you know exactly what I am referring to...drip city!!! The insulation on the Hot water line is to KEEP the water hot and save you energy $$$. Also make sure you duct tape the joints where the insulation meets the next section, leave no place open where water could leak.
I go one step further, but this is up to you. I always buy a can of Krylon ( or other mfgr paint type ) copper color, and spray all my pipes ESPECIALLY the soldered joints. The pipes and especially the solder joints get pretty ugly over time, turning green crud color due to oxidation. The spray paint protects the copper.
If your water supply has a lot of minerals and deposits in the water, you might want to install a filter in the water line. These are very common, and are sold at all the major hardware stores. I had one guy that worked with me have his water pipes at home all start to leak. His town water supply had a lot of sand and deposits in the water ( microscopic ) and over time, it acted like a sand blaster and ate away the interior wall of the copper pipes. Talk about a full scale mess in his basement!!!!
I hope this gives you some ideas Rob.
JEFF: So who cares about distance on a layout illustrating your locos and buildings, etc.!!! You spent $10, it takes great closeup shots of your layout, you did real good Jeff !!!! Maybe for Christmas you can get another camera that has a 10X telephoto for Railfanning, or, ceiling shots of your entire layout.
Pc: That's a problem I frequently have.
You guys ever seen a Hall type locomotive?
[Speaking of Goats, we went to a Goat farm yesterday to buy some Goat cheese. They had 150 acre farm and many Goats, at least 50 from what I saw.]
***Is it pretty good cheese? Betcha the four-legged "Yard Goats" cost much less to keep up than the old Steam variety did. Would love to have one of the latter versions sitting in my front yard on some old rails. THAT would be cool, and the four-legged yard goats could keep the weeds from growing up around the BIG yard goat, too.
[ROB: That will be one nice area for a layout, and you have the time now to plan the construction of the area so no poles and beams are in the way, nor water pipes overhead that can leak.]
***Dick, the only thing that will be "unavoidable" is running two water lines (hot/cold) from our existing house to the far/oposite wall of the Inlaw Suite, which will be above the train room. Will post the rough idea soon for both clarification and any suggestions.

Good evening to all...I hope everybody had a nice Saturday, we sure did here, the weather has been great. 59F now at 8pm, 46F Dew Point (DP) and 62% Rh. This also explains why we are not having a good crop of tomatos this year, very slow to ripen. Today I started on framing the stairway in the garage as part of closing it in and insulating the stairway to the 2nd floor for winterization ( future larger layout area ).
RYAN: For a weather station, I only have experience with Davis Instruments, from Hayward, CA. They make top line equipment that is used worldwide. It is more expensive than what you have indicated but they do have some units within your budget, check out their website at http://www.davisnet.com/home_flash.asp
JIM: Congrats on approaching Grandfatherhood!!! I see a Thomas the Train in your future!!!
JERRY: I sure hope that Sallie gets back home soon, it is very lonesome to be without your best friend after many years of married life.

PAUL: Did you get much rain from the TS?
ED: Gagne cannot be allowed to pitch on Friday nights, he blows every save, three games now that the Sox should have had in the win column.
SUE: Glad to see you are back in the Diner, we thought you got lost in the tunnel biking again. LOL

I just saw a very interesting consist roll through here.
I was checking out a parked loco on a siding, CSX #8054 (SD40-2), when a train pulls to a stop nearby. Now most of the trains in this area have two, maybe three loco's on them. Not this one! This one had five! And they were interesting ones too!
On the point was CSX #7521 (C40-8....looking mighty tired!), then was HLCX #7521 (SD40-2.....ex.BN), next was CSX #2554 (GP38-2), followed by CSX #1562 (GP15-1.....ex. Conrail) and CSX #1535 (GP15-1.....ex. Conrail).
Now thats something you just don't see very much around here!
I only wish I'd had my camera!
Evening guys, Zoe, I'll take a large glass of sweet tea.
Forgot to update, my brother went back to his apartment Wendsday, his healing process has been quick. Those thoughts and prayers shure helped. Thanks again.

That wasn't quite where I was going with that Rob!
Morning folks!
JIM: Awhile ago, you asked why no one was in... It was 5 am over here then!
4 days to go... Gotta wait.... Waiting is boring, isn't it?
Well, I'm gonna go drum. I feel like some ZEPPELIN to start the day.
Mark.
in a UP mug, please & thank you!
Worked out most of the details for the Inlaw Suite. Below will be my train room which will be 20'x22'. Now I need to figure out how many windows and where to put them? North facing only? Also thinking of cutting out about 4'x22' for storage, hidden staging, etc... Room might have one or two support posts in it, not sure yet. Will probably start on the foundation within the next month, so some decisions will need to be made soon.
Pc: I found a car for you. It has your name all over it. MUSCLE!
Good Morning.
I was taking some pics on the layout and I came up with this shot.
So far, this little camera is really surprising me. I bought it on a whim, thinking that for $10 it was probably junk. Looks like I was wrong.
BTW, todays weather is:
Today High: 92 Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall. Highs in the lower 90s. Light and variable winds becoming southeast around 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 50 percent.
Tonight Low: 75 Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 70s. South winds up to 10 mph in the evening becoming light and variable.
Mornin' all!
Not much to say right now. Slept in and now I've got to go rebuild a carb. I've been putting it off, but now's the time!
Beautiful day today BTW!
