I guess it is my turn to buy a round.Dinner [dinner] I will serve some of my homemade huckleberry cheesecake.

Philip,  A dislocated anything is bad.  How long do you have to stay off of it?

der,  I know that it is late, but that highway looks great.  Things are really moving for you.

I worked on the layout for about an hour this morning.

Larry got one of the MDC Shays regeared.  Of course, no instructions come with the kits.  Banged Head [banghead] Last night he was having trouble working through the kit.  The combination of adult beverage and tiny parts interfered with progress.

After working out, I went  to help Larry load for California.  It is about 70 miles south of here.  We went bowling down there.  Maybe I will get something done tomorrow.

Oh, yeah, I ordered a Bachmann 3-truck Shay for a belated birthday present.  I wish it were here yesterday.

Goodnight,  Sue

Good evening everyone...a very busy day today. The only RR stuff I managed to do is to read another 3 chapters of a really good book called White Cascade, the story of the GN RR trains that were swept off the Cascade route by a tremendous avalanche, killing over 100 people, in 1910. This is a great book, the author does a GREAT job, and I highly recommend this book, you will not be able to put it down.

This morning, son #3 on the other side of the hill, needed help to down 8 large oak trees, especially on big boy that was over 75 feet tall and had a girth of 2 feet. This tree would reach the house if it fell the wrong way. It fell exactly where I wanted it to go with the help of my trusty steel wedge. It is very important to cut the notch no deeper than 1/3 of the way through the tree in the direction that you want the tree to fall. Then, the back cut needs to be two inches above this cut, and straight...no downward or slanted cuts. When the cut is beyond the depth of the wedge, I hammer the wedge into the cut with a splitting maul. Unless you have a terrible leaner, the tree drops right where you want it.

The refrig is repaired, I didn't have to involve the repair tech, cancelled that call for Monday, as the frig was down to 38F this morning, and held temp all day. It appears that either defrosting the evaporator coils, or, removing and cleaning the temp sensor on the evaporator, did the trick...at least I hope so.

DER JOHN: OK, what is the temperature of "cellar" beer in Britain? Any beer over 50F (10C) is "pee". Come on, don't tell me that after a hot summer day cutting your lawn, or bustin your butt and dripping with sweat, that a nice beer from the frig at 38F (4C) doesn't taste great as compared to "pee" at over 10C!!! hehehehehehehehehehehe LOL How did the show go today? Did Kris do better with shoes then you did at the show? Did LUC and Fergie make it there?

JEFF: Your paint jobs really come out good, please show your work on the new locos when there're finished. What do you use for your spraying for equipment? I need to invest in a sprayer and I have NO IDEA what is good, bad, ugly on the market.

MIKE: There are times that I wish I still had an ice box, but then again, they would probably charge us more for ice now than gas or electricity.

JP: Nice job with your new camera, the pics are quite clear. I see you made a Home Depot run also ( pink foam ).....I think Lowe's carries the Blue foam.

Bed time, see you guys in the morning

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I haven't had the amount of time to work on the layout lately that I would like to have. I've been working with one of the local street racing teams checking out some cars as potential racers.

I use a Testors Aztec airbrush (available at Wal-Mart for about $20) for the detail work and weathering. For general mass coverage I use ye olde spray paint can.

Morning, I'll have a farmers special, OJ, n coffee Janie

Looks like we're going to have some sun for awhile today, still got a chance for a shower this evening. No big storms through here last night, all we got was a lot of rain. All warning and that was NW of us.

JIM CG, I don't have to worry bout getting into Mother's flower beds, cause I'm the one who does all the gardening here. The boys are wanting to add another 12'x20' on to the train room, but that's not going to happen till some of the CFO's wants are done first.

I'm hoping to see of those KCS hoppers out back this summer so I can get a pic of them.

GARRY, hope all the test go well and ya get some good scores at the LHS

JP, that new camera does a  purrty good job it looks like. I the beer trucks too.

PC, hope that knee fellin better today and take care of it. I know dislocations can hurt for a long time, if you don't.

DICK,, glad you got the frig ta working right, hope it last.

I don't know of any place selling block ice anymore, at least round here. It would be high priced if there was, going by crushed ice prices.

Got grandkids be here some time later, so no big plans for the day. Need to do some cleaning in the train room, maybe during the race this afternoon. Best gets round, Janie can I get a couple Bills doughnuts and an Irish coffee ta-go, kinda cool out now, think I'm gonna light stove for abit. Hope ya'll has a gooden

Hey all!

How goes it this morning?  Me?  I'm good.

 gear-jammer wrote:

Philip,  A dislocated anything is bad.  How long do you have to stay off of it?

The leg is much better!  I can walk with only a minimum hitch to my get-along today.  Yesterday I looked like something out of an old horror movie when I walked.  Picture Egor saying "Yes Master' as he drags his lame foot along.  That was me. Ha, ha!  Much better today though.  I didn't go to a doctor or anything.  I figured I'd be fine without all of that, so I'll just take it a bit easier for a while.  I don't go to the doc for myself very much.  The last time I went they had to look up my "latest" records on microfilm!  I hadn't been in a while I guess.  Anyways, thanks for all the prayers and support everyone.

So, I'm going to chill out here at the house this morning and then later grab one of my coworkers (a telephone tech) and drop by my parents place this afternoon to fix a bad phone line.  I figure, I work at the phone company, the least I can do is fix their bad line.  I'll flip a 20 spot to my friend and everyone will be cool.

Bought some grass seed yesterday and got that out.  I looked pathetic trying to put it out as I gimped along, but I wanted to get it out because I knew it was going to rain off and on for the next week, so it'd get a chance to grow real good.  It's a good thing I did it yesterday too.  It rained lightly last night and the sun is out this morning.  you just couldn't ask for much better!

So what's today got for you guys?

Good morning, and an April Fool's to everyone.  The best joke ever is to wake up and say, "It snowed!", before your spouse can wake up.  It gets them every time.

I'll have one of Bill's donuts with my coffee this morning.

Jeff,  Street Racing?

Dick,  Sounds like you are a regular lumberjack.  It feels great when they fall exactly right.

Inch,  Do the grandkids get to help in the train room?  That would be a great chance to mentor them in the world of trains.

Philip,  Sounds like you are getting around even if you are stiff. I hope that the recovery time is short.  Does this mean that you should sit around and work on the layout today?

The sun is out here, so I probably should haul some of the firewood that we have cut down in the trees.  I am not very motivated, but I will probably do some.  I will wait until it warms up a little (freezing here this morning), so back to my hill side.

Morning all.
I don't have much to say... I still am waiting for the 2-8-0. Maybe we could all take bets for when it arrives and whoever wins decides who gets the bill for the next page, or the current one if it was just started.
Well I guess I can say this- I built a trebuchet out of rokenbok. It fires all of 10-15', which is pretty good for something thats slighty over 3' tall.
I think I'll go trick my mom with the "It snowed" thing... Thanks Sue!

I'm not racing anymore, I'm just the safety tech for the team.

Ah, the days of yesteryears.  That sounds like my rock climbing. I go to the rockgym once a week; instruct leading rock climbing; and go climbing once or twice a year.  It's not like when I used to go every weekend.

Isn't that a coincidence! The oldest car I've owned was a 41 Plymouth Hornet, followed by a 58 Plymouth Fury.

When we first bought the car, a friend of my Dad's told me that he had a '41 Plymouth while in high school.  He said that they used to hide their beer in the tray under the back seat.  And sure enough, our Plymouth had that tray.Laugh [(-D]

Evening all -

Just a quick stop in to post more photos of today's work! I decided to not do any of the Learning Kits and instead opted for the paint experiment. So, here we go....

Here are some of the 1st experiment... Dirt shaken on top of white paint....

And the 2nd experiment - Mixing Dirt w/ White Paint -  this mixture was kinda thick and I should have used a medium sized putty knife to spread it out and make it more even than I got with a paint brush.

Good evening all.....spent most of the day outside, as the temps was in 60's, clear skies, but clouded over in PM as that slow moving front that has stalled in the midwest has finally moved in for a stay...in fact, a 4 day stay!!! Showery, raw, even snow and sleet this week. Churchill still has -15F now up in Hudson Bay, so Spring has not sprung yet.

SUE: Yup, been cutting trees here on the property for many years, by axe back in the 60's before I could afford a chain saw. The worst time I ever had was a triple leaner comprising of three giant oaks, each with a girth of 24+ inches. The woods out back on the rear hillside was so dense, that there was no way I could fell a tree in the open. I thought that the shear weight of the oak would carry it through the upper limbs of the next oak in line....nay, nay. So I cut the second oak, and that one proceeded to fall into the third big oak, each of them leaning on the other at about 45 degrees. Now I am very worried because I didn't want my kids out here after school while I was at work, so I had to get them down. Luckily, both of the felled tress where leaning on the same side of the 3rd tree. This 3rd tree was now bending at about 15 degrees down the hill from the tremendous weight of two 80 foot giant oaks on it. I made a very small cut in the 3rd tree on the downward side to act as a hinge. I then carefully stood at right angle to the tree and started to make the back cut. I don't think the saw got 1" into the tree when there was a terrific split and crash. The 3rd tree went down with a roar with the other two trees, but the frightening part was the fact that the 3rd tree splintered 20 feet to the rear!!! These spikes of oak wood shot back so fast, that anyone standing behind the tree would have been speared to death for sure. I was very happy that I always observed the "90 degree to the cut" rule.

JEFF: Did you buy the compressor at Wal-Mart also? Or Micro-Mark tools?

FERGIE: John was planning to attend if Kris didn't have class.

MIKE: Don't go onto the tracks with your new 4 wheeler..LOL

SUE: The book WHITE CASCADE takes place not far from where you live. Tye, Washington. I believe that is about 100 miles from Olympia, up on route 2 heading through the pass?  This is an active rail line still I believe. The worst train disaster in US RR history when a huge avalanche roared down on a mail express train and a passenger train that had been stranded for days in the Cascades. Great book !!!

Later guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Inch,  Muddin would be here also.  Lots of standing water in our neck of the woods.

Philip,  What was the loco on your signature earlier today?

JP, I vote for the white paint with dirt sprinkled on it.

I have been working on Aggro trees today.  I have the trees covered and decided to take a break before giving them a dusting of spring color.

Time to feed the steers so I will be back later.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Good evening people:  Not much mrr today, except to make an offer on a Kato SD90 with decoder by email.  Won’t know if it’s accepted until Tuesday at the earliest.

Dick:  Nice going on the oak tree felling.Bow [bow]

OK, what is the temperature of "cellar" beer in Britain? Any beer over 50F (10C) is "pee".
…Not wanting to belabour the point, and I hope the refreshed fridge keeps you beer behaving as it should; but here it is one more time.

North American beer is brewed to be drunk at temperatures like your beer fridge produces.  Try it above that, and it is revealed as the delicate and nervous stuff it really is; as you found out.

Brit beer raised in a low tech environment where a cellar temp of say 55 F is normal, can stand the treatment, and be refreshing as well as hearty.

Come on, don't tell me that after a hot summer day cutting your lawn, or bustin your butt and dripping with sweat, that a nice beer from the frig at 38F (4C) doesn't taste great
…of course it does!  It’s at its design temperature, and that’s my point, and why not my round too…what will you have?
Did LUC and Fergie make it there?
…Looks like Fergie was there buying another loco…he didn’t say if it was a d****l though.  I don’t know for Luc.  I didn’t get there until after 3:00.

Garry:  Psylium husk isn’t scary, and can be mixed into foods (especially SR Pie!) so you wouldn’t know it’s there.  Great stuff for what ails you.  Drop me an email if you want to know more.

PC:  Glad your knee is mending.  That sounded really painful.

Sue:  The highway doesn’t bear too close an inspection, as the method was experimental, and the surface bubbled in places a scale 2 ft tall!  I’ve since moved on to other methods!  It’s been there for some time now, and I may re-do it as I have to finish its extension onto the module that fits in the doorway to the train room.  Depends on energy levels, which today are low, hence the “Not much mrr today” remark.

JP: I’d differ with Sue on the results of your experiments…judging from the bits of the photos that have come in so far while I’ve been typing this. I think the last one looks best.  BTW, why white paint rather than a darker base?

TV in a bit, so I’ll say Goodnight.  God Bless, and prayers for al in need of healing, comfort and peace. Angel [angel]
