Good morning everyone, nothing for me this morning except coffee, my mouth is too sore to chew anything yet. It is real cold here this morning, the winds are howling at 30 Mph, with a temp of 3.4F (-17C) with a wind chill reading at the moment of -14F ( -27C)......2 minutes outside and exposed skin gets frost bite on average.

I would like to thank Cloe, Zoe and Jane for the Birthday Cake today, 68 years old today.......so everyone...have a piece of cake and ice cream.....but remember, the BD cake is a Rum cake.

J.R. The building on the Right "is" the Better Homes building. I always hit that building first, most of the vendors are there. What is your group's name? I had a senior moment and forgot. Don't worry about snow on Sunday, I don't think it will be much, and, it shouldn't arrive until late in the day.

RYAN: You must be feeling the effects of this cold wave also in North Carolina, I think it will drive all the way to northern Florida to Flip's house.

Later, guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I think I could go for some scrambled eggs and pancakes.

Now it looks like this:

I haven’t done anything but laying the track. I am planning on a city scene with skyscrapers in the middle of the loop.  To the left is were I plain on all the controls and on the other side of that I was thinking of docks and the maybe mountains with bridges and tunnels.

And thanks everyone less for welcoming me in.

After I spend 6 weeks in Knoxville TN this summer, I'll be looking into upgrading to either a 2bdrm apt / townhouse, or just outright buying a house. Money will tell me what to do, when I get back.

Morning all -Hope everyone is well. I think between now and the end of May, I'll be looking to upgrade my mode of transportaion from the Jeep I have to a Crew Cab Pick Up (Not a big full size p-u, but more along the lines of a Dodge Dakota - Not sure if it will be a Dodge. I was using that as an example).

Lee - Email will be sent shortly.

Ok all - I'm out of here for now. Need to get some things done around the apt today.

Take care!

Good afternoon gents, talk about cold, it is 6.9F right now at 2:30pm and falling, looks like we will not get into double digits today at all.....might have set a new record. It is so cold that the squirrels are only climbing down the South sides of the trees...smart little critters. I saw one with ear muffs on.

J.R. Yes, I see from the layout map that I have where table 99 is, we will stop by to see you......I will have a Boston (B) Red Sox hat on....

RYAN: 30's, that yould be a heat wave for us, but I imagine for you living in New Orleans, 30's are mighty cold. As you can imagine, the wood stove is cranking today!!!!

DER JOHN: Thanks for BD cake, received it this afternoon via the "CAT" from Nova Scotia to Portland , Maine.

Dick, yep, 30's mid-day is darn right chilly for me! Had to take the electric space heater out of the bathroom and bring it into the garage while I was making my sub-roadbed cuts for the main line loop section of the lower layout deck. 3 hours of cuts is enough for me today!

Evening all -

  It's 6:30pm EST and it's dinner time!

Chloe - How about the Mexican plate you had last night? Ya know, the Buritto and taco's Throw on some Mexican Rice and some Refriend Beans, too. Thanks!

Dick - I see the Sox announced the signing of JD Drew earlier. Any thoughts? What's on tap for the weekend? Anything good going on? As for I, I'm going to lay low as payday is not till next Thursday and I'm running low on funds. Besides, it's down right COLD outside!

Lee - Check your email and make sure that everything is correct and that it's ok to your liking.

Well all, I'm off to get some dinner!

Take Care!

Good Evening, Chloe - how about a mocha frappacino? Yeah, and a steak burrito too, please.

Aw c’mon, PC - you sure your wife's not just heading for Florida because of all that lake effect snow in Indiana? Wink [;)] But you still should be able to get a lot of MR work in. Now your phone bill? That might be something else, unless you call off-peak...Shock [:O]

Hey, Colby - I’m an HO’er (and proud of it!). Probably the ‘Original’ modeling scale (if only by age) would be Oversized or Supersized, since they’ve been around almost since dirt... What scale was Fred & Barney’s club layout? (hint for our younger members in the Diner - Google for ‘Flintstones’... ) Wink [;)] Remember that the ‘Horribly Oversized’ term came from those iNvisible MRers (who call their scale ‘Normal’ - and what is ‘normal’, anyway? )

JP, not to worry - my preference will be for a place in Cape Girardeau still. I’ll save space and just email to catch you up on the rest. Good luck on getting a house (be sure to check out the basement on any house before you finally decide - you want a good arrangement of available space for the layout!) Yeah!! [yeah]

Dick
, can you send us about 10 colder degrees for tomorrow? Looks like we’re only going to drop off into the upper 30’s, and may just get rain instead of a couple of inches of snow. Yeah, I know - you’d be glad to ship us a couple of hopper loads full of snows... Hey, can you have them dump them on my landlord’s house? I can email your shipper the address if you’d like. Evil [}:)]

Anyone heard from Rob L.? (and I forgot his new username - what is it?) Couldn’t figure out how to look up someone’s username in the forum. They’ve hidden how to get to that, I guess.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening gents, down to 2.8F right now, so we will have another night below zero, a three dog night tonight! Today we not only broke the record, we smashed it, for the record Low High temperature for this date. The previous was 15F, the high today was 8F!!! I tried to go for a swim in the pool, but the doggone ice was too thick to make a hole.

JP: If Drew can stay healthy, we should have a very good RF. He will be hitting in the lineup right after Manny. Tomorrow we are headed to West Springfield, Ma for the big train show at the Exposition Center, more commonly called, " The BIG E". It is probably the biggest model RR show in the country. It runs through Sunday.

CAPE JIM: I can't send you any snow, we don't really have enough. There is barely enough to cover the ground, in fact the grass is showing in areas where the sun hits. As for your Landlord, I can send Whitey down there if you want.

Evening Gang: I loaded up my tool box today. It took 3 of us and a fork lift but we got it in the truck. Getting it off at home was alittle different story. I got the top section off the truck with the front end loader. We took the drawers out of the bottom and loaded the rest out with the loader. It took awhile but everything is back together in the storage shed down by the depot. There isn't enough room in the shop for it right now. 7 days to go.

Nothing much on the MRR front. I did get some more sheet metal on the head frame. I really like this method of doing the sheet metal. The great part is that I don't have to worry about running out. I make it as I go along so no worry about having too much or too little. Also I don't have to worry about messing some up. The cost is so very small.I've got to do something about posting pictures so I can show you guys all this.

Well it's bed time. Daisy is already in and Mary Ann is close to it. I'm gone for now.

Good Night All

What color do they dye them? If you are getting the pecans up there it maybe to identify them as having been through customs and inspection for disease.
The pecans we get in the shell are all dyed, rather like pistachios sometimes are. This is the remains of a bag of mixed nuts I bought a week ago yesterday.  All the larger pecans are gone!  Some were cracked, and the dye had gone onto the meat a bit, which got me to wondering.

Good morning all,

Yesterday was our coldest day yet with the low at 14F. We had frazzle ice in the harbor yesterday morning.  Now this morning is a different story; the ice is melting and it's 34F outside now.

Dee Dee and I are working on the downtown building kits this weekend.

I have been invited to help build a 6,000 foot garden railroad at a local green house.  Will have to look into this further.

Plasma is the way to go. One thing though, we would NEVER go back to a conventional T.V.   All the talk about HDTV, LED vs Plasma, back projection etc. has me wondering.  Why is it that as the technology for a sharper image improves, the quality of programming takes a dive?... or maybe that’s just a North American blight.  Still, I have to agree that when we finally have to get a new set it will most likely be HDTV, and quite possibly LCD, if we can afford it.

Hmm...I'm not too sure on that one...it does seem odd, all these reality television shows, are starting to annoy me...the latest one here is "Australian Princess" where Aussie girls try to win a "princes" heart. I like our Cable.

…Congrats!, enjoy the NCE.  I’ve got the Powerhouse Pro, with a walk around, but not wireless, but you have a smaller layout, so may not even need that.  One thing, on my Powerhouse Pro, I only have memory for 6 loco or consist addresses.  I thought that that would be lots for my layout and stable, but it is sometimes an inconvenience.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip, on my layout, there won't be any more than 3 trains going at once (double headers) so Powercab should get me by...

Mornin, just coffee fur now Janie

Another weekend of lousy weather, talking a light rain and misty drizzle, some maybe freezing. Changing to snow flurries or light snow at times. High today bout 37 [35 now], then temps falling in the afternoon to about 18. Tomorrow, cloudy cold and some light snow. Glad we don't have any big plans this weekend.

RYAN, I use to change all the oil here, but don't have a good place to do it and the boys all have garages, so they do it for me.   Their talking like our temps will be on the minus side later this week [thrill]. At least we're not as cold as DICK is for highs yet.

EDGER, hope you enjoy your visit here. I'm in HO, but you N scalers are ok.

PC, I know it can be rough without the boss around, but you'll make it, I do. Hope every thing goes well for her down south.

Dick, hope your jaws feeling better today. I think Cleo saved you a piece a cake.

OZ, we don't care for regular tv, the staged reality are less exciting than watching paint dry. Thank god for PBS and old videos.

For all those like me who Rail fan, here's a link to a story on it your rights that was post on Train Board. There's some real good links on laws in it. So the next time some one hassle you over pictures, you know.

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/andrewkantor/2005-12-29-camera-laws_x.htm

After a run into town this morning and a couple honey-do's, plan on time for the layout and a couple old B grade westerns. Hopeing to finish laying one main line and installing some drops. Might even get to run a train Sunday. Best get ta chores, hope ya'll has a day, and stay warm

Good Morning, Zoe - I see DerJohn’s buying, so I’ll have an egg and Canadian bacon and cheese croissant please, with a cup of coffee. (Hey, DerJohn - what do you call that stuff up there (that we call Canadian bacon here in the States)? Never did hear what any alternate name for it was.Confused [%-)]

Happy B-Day [bday] Dick - and my apologies. I meant to wish you that yesterday, but my mind must’ve got to wandering in writing my post... While your jaw’s sore and/or tender, should we ask the twins to get out the blender for your food here in the Diner? Wink [;)] Hope that dental work heals up quickly.

Paul, that’s some tool chest you have, from the sounds of it. Wow!! [wow] Hope you have a good lock on the building it’s in. I’ve heard of thieves in outlying parts of the country breaking into sheds (that are out a ways from the house) to steal anything of value. Shock [:O]

Hey, Inch - thanks for the link and that info on picturetaking do’s and don’ts. Thumbs Up [tup] Useful stuff! Sounds like you’ve been doing pretty well on your layout, too.

OzJim, what’ll you be using for roadbed under the track? Cork, homasote/soundboard, or something else? Looking forward to your next batch of pics once you get track going. Do you have a design figured out for the layout yet?

Colby - I didn’t intend to confuse the matter on scale (nor to cause a rucus).Oops [oops] Even though those of us in different scales here razz one another, we recognize that each scale has its own advantages, and it’s okay that we differ. Yeah!! [yeah]

Time to finish up and go get laundry done. Some more moving of stuff to the shed today, as well as check the bank account and also go looking for other apartments that might be for rent.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All!

and a hearty...HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICK!!!!

Have one on me and take it easy as we don't want a repeat of last years events!

Dick can be such a party animal especially with Phil and company egging him on.

Well every thing is moving along now as the Building inspector gave us a by on the plumbing after a couple of phone calls and some pleading by the contractor. We were lucky as this was not a municipal regulation but a National Code. Anything over two Toilets requires 4" pipes. We was lucky. The arguement that was made on my behalf was the house is 18 yrs old, had 4 toilets on the one line with no incident. Plumbing and electrical are all but done except sockets and lights and bathroom fixtures. Now it's the Insulation and drywall that comes next Oh and the Sunroom... Ya we decided to go ahead with the sunroom so Dad can sit in the shelter and look out over the garden when it's too cold.

The layout is covered with plastic untill the electrical and plumbing is hooked up into the rest of the house as more drywall will go flying in the near future.

Talked to Bob (Teffy) last night and he's good  but has ISP issues so if anyone is trying to get a hold of him it may be difficult for a while.

Well that's it for this week's sitrep as I get to keep my sanity for another week!!!

 Later All

Fergie
