At the start of 2004, the MNG used its available funds to put Monson Railroad engine #4 through the FRA process. To this day, number 4 is our only available locomotive. The museum has since set aside funds to put Bridgton and Harrison engine #7 through the same process. Since #7 is much bigger than #4, the cost for rehabilitating engine 7 exceeds what the railroad can currently afford. We estimate it will cost between $25,000 and $30,000 to put #7 back on track. We will not start the restoration work until we have the sufficient funds to complete the project. We need your help! A Maine native, #7 is a 1913 Baldwin built for the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad. Weighing in at 33.5 tons, #7 is a 2-4-4RT type locomotive that hauled passengers and freight in New England for nearly 100 years! After her career in Maine, in 1947, she went to the Edaville Railroad in South Carver Massachusetts as founder Ellis D. Atwood's first engine! She made her return to Maine in 2002. She saw occasional service at the MNG in 2002 and 2003, but has not turned a wheel under steam since. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to put this engine back into service! The work crew was replacing ties on one set of double tracks. The work crew was from a company in New Hampshire. This appears to me at this point to be a case of real bad communication. Totally preventable. Some passengers were taken to the hospital also as the train came to sudden stopsending people flying. The work truck on the tracks was crushed under the locomotive. The work crew was replacing ties on one set of double tracks. The work crew was from a company in New Hampshire. This appears to me at this point to be a case of real bad communication. Totally preventable. Some passengers were taken to the hospital also as the train came to sudden stopsending people flying. The work truck on the tracks was crushed under the locomotive. Totally preventable. Some passengers were taken to the hospital also as the train came to sudden stopsending people flying. The work truck on the tracks was crushed under the locomotive. Good evening gents, a brisk day out today, but with clear skies, I just had to get outside. 32F now and headed for a low of about 25F. But just wait until next week guys.......there is a large pool of very cold air headed south from Hudson Bay, Canada, and we will get some of the coldest air of Winter, and this time, I think it will hang around a while.
LEE: Good guess because millions of years ago before the Andes mountains rose to present day heights, the entire Brazilian rain forest was indeed an inland lake.
However, the one that I was referring to was the Laurentian/Great Lakes area. It was a huge area all covered with an inland lake. And, they have long felt that there was a very large waterfall somewhere under the present Great Lakes, but Geologists could not find.....until now!! It is under Lake Huron. New underwater mapping science and equipment allows the bottoms to be mapped with much greater detail. So, they found a huge waterfall under this lake. This inland sea eventually broke through it's natural boundaries as the last Ice Age was retreating due to all the melt water. Trillions of gallons of water carved deeper channels as the water poured towards the Atlantic, carving out the St. Lawrence river. All this fresh water dumped into the North Atlantic had another effect too. It halted the great conveyor of ocean currents that circulate around the globe, which ultimately plunged much or Europe into a mini Ice Age.

FLASH !!!!! A northbound commuter train has smashed into a work crew on the tracks north of Boston in the town of Woburn, Ma. Two workers were killed and 4 were seriously injured!!! The work crew was replacing ties on one set of double tracks. The work crew was from a company in New Hampshire. This appears to me at this point to be a case of real bad communication. Totally preventable. Some passengers were taken to the hospital also as the train came to sudden stopsending people flying. The work truck on the tracks was crushed under the locomotive. No derailment.

Evening all Just got in from my LHS and with a little arm twisting (wasn't much ) I picked upp the (Williams ) Virginian Set (new for 2007) It comes with 2322 Trainmaster,6462 NYC Gondola, 6464-275 State Of Maine Boxcar, 6536 M&SL Covered Hopper With inter changeable loads, 6464-375 Central of GA. Boxcar, 6415 Sunoco Triple Dome Tankcar, & a 6427 Virginian N5c Caboose.
Then if that wasn't enough (this is what I really went for) My MTH Rail King 60' Santa - Fe Passenger cars came in (I ordered the whole 8 cars back in Augest ( glad I already paid for them because of the above mentioned) there going to hook up to my 2343 & 2243 sets I have. Now just need to get somewhere to run them as my layout is still in the planning staged. Have to get room finished first but now I'm motivated.

Here's a short story for you all:
ON THE JOB
For years Pensacola, Florida, crossing guard Dale Rooks had tried everything he could think of, including waving his hands and yelling, to get drivers to slow down in front of the school, but nothing worked.
So one day he got an old hair dryer and covered it with gray duct tape so that it looked like a radar gun, then started pointing it at speeders.
"People are slowing down, raising their hands at me apologetically," he says. "It's amazing how well it works."
Fifth graders at his school later raised money to buy Rooks a real radar gun. Rooks remarked that it "looks just like a hair dryer."

I read it, but Christmas put the squeeze on me. A lot of the others here are on fixed incomes or have young families (that takes money), so I'm not sure how much help you're going to see. Maybe you'll get lucky though......
