Coffee, please.  I will just slide into the back booth and have one of Bill's donuts.

Philip,  Prayers for your wife.  She will be in our thoughts.

Ryan,  Thanks for the shots of your RH.  Since ours only has a floor at this time,  I enjoy viewing everyone else's.

Sun here today, so I might be outside after some tree making.

Sue

Mornin' all!

Man Jeff, that loco was just barely spared!

Cold morning around here!

Lookin' like we'll get some more wet stuff later!

Hey, thanks for all of the support lately.  It means a bunch.  Also, just know that I don't forget you in my prayers.

Morning folks!

While the drought is not over here we have recorded 4.5 inches rain in the back yard over the last 7 days, and more expected today.

Falls Lake is still 12+ feet below normal water levels and we only have a 90 +/- day supply of water here in the Triangle area!

Watched game 1 of the WS last night through most of the 5th inning after they had those 7 runs at the bottom of the inning, and it was way past my bed time at 10:45 PM when I finally went to bed. Beckett was on fire last night, and Boston sure has some great hitters too. Hey, Ed, in case you missed it, game 1 was amazing! Red Sox - 13 runs Rockies - 1run, game 2 should be fun to watch too!

Philip - please let her know again that many people are praying and our thoughts are with you all.

Measured, attached, floated, sanded and painted the first fascia boards on the layout:

Got all my tracks installed on the roundhouse and wired too:

Hey Duke - I uploaded some videos to YouTube of the Live Steam Event, here are the links:

Good Morning All,

50 F and a light rain today continuing to the afternoon. I'll have a regular coffee and a donut please. If there's any of Fergies leftovers from yesterdays batch of roof tar it'll be just right by now.

More cleaning and a bit of work on the last factory backround building last night. We were given a bunch of plastic protectors from prior to use x-ray sheets and I'm trying those for glazing. Very handy for factory windows as I can just cut and glue a strip instead of laboriously cutting  each section out one at a time. Pics next time I get ambitious.

Jerry - that layout is looking good. now that you've got the posting thing down I suggest you keep in practice by keeping us updated on a regular basis with photos.

Jeffery - close call there with the tanker. Are you sure you're not modelling a branch of CSX? In all seriousness, the layout is really coming along. I like your private line as well but I'm not sure the cleaning crew at the wash facility do. The New Haven had to change their early red/white/black scheme to put the white up higher on the locomotives because it was so difficult to keep white panels on the bottom of the body clean.

PC - we'll keep you in our prayers and hope for a good outcome.

Gotta go - time to pick up tools.   CUL, J.R.

Ed:  If you'll be in Houston in a couple weeks, don't forget the layout tours in November.  Here's a link to the schedule: http://sanjac.leoslair.com/tour.htm  Many, many layouts are open any given weekend for an open house.  Mine will be open on November 24th and our club modular layout will also be set up at my house.

Philip:  Great news!  My prayers are with your wife and you.

Well, time to see if the coffee has finished brewing.  Have a great day, all!

Mornin,,, coffee n a short stack Zoe,

Still a cold north wind through here, along with another chance of rain later today and last till Sat. Is suppose to be nice most of next week with highs up around 70 and sun.

FERGIE,,, I didn't find anything wrong with the coffee, just fine to me. It was kinda weak compared to my campfire coffee, but you can make my coffee anytime.

JERRY,, photo looks good, just like it's pose too. Sorry bout the interruption on the phone yesterday [potty training] and no KC didn't go potty and then I had to chase her naked butt. Reminded me of the Ray Stevens song "The Streak", think I'll change her name to Ethel.

DICK,, the mower is bout 15 years old and the company was bought out by MTD [I think], and I haven't had much luck in finding a diagram. I haven't really had many wiring problems [the noise is me knocking on wood] so far. If I do get to having them, I'll gut it and build a new harness. It won't be the first time I've made one.

ROB,,, congrads on the Dewitt. I've got one made of wood that was given to me years ago. Maybe I'll get a powered one someday.

PC,,,just making the decision can be some relief and we'll all be thinking of ya'll.

Best gets round, Leroy will be here afore long to catch the bus, then no kids till schools out today. I've got a couple windows not winter sealed yet, so that's first today, on to other less pleasant tasks. Might even get some time on the layout, when the rain starts in. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

There was a minor derailment at the west turnout to the #2 track today. Photos are now available. There were no injuries and property damage was negligible.

First an overhead view from the eye in the sky.

And now some photos from our man on the ground.

Greetings all...

I thought I'd stop by and unload todays activities on you before hitting the sack for some much needed sleep.

I finally got around to installing a new control console on my layout today. The old one had just about had it and didn't work about half the time. I also finally got a steam loco shipped out that needed repair. Why is it always our favorite locos that let us down...

Catch you later.

Rob.  I recall my n scale days from way back when. I did burn out a motor using an MRC pulse throttle. So... be careful.

1/2 regular, 1/2 decaf please & thank you. (Don't care if a spoon stands up in it or not, as long as it's fresh)Wink [;)]

QUESTION: Is it OK to break in a loco/motor using the "pulse" setting (old Throttlepack transformer) rather than the regular DC mode? I ask because one loco in particular (N scale Atlas 2-6-0 mogul) races a bit at the lowest throttle setting unless in pulse mode and having set up an oval near the computer, thought I could use my computer time to break in some locos. Even most of my vintage models have little or no track time yet. Thanks! -Rob

Hello Phillip...I believe your wife will do just fine with the surgery. I can understand the apprehension completely, but you faith will make the difference. I'll be gald to put her on the prayer list at church. Should I just say it's Moose's wife? Actually, no name is needed as you would know. Prayers will continue. Keep us posted. You may give an extra hug to her from diners.

Shelley and I will be traveling to Ohio and Michigan. We're leaving about this weekend and returning about next week end.

Is Duke on board?  I might get to the Gratiot Valley train show before dring back on the 3rd.

Glad the burrow found its way to "Paradise", Ed. ....and thanks for the kind remark.

Mark, I recall that's an early Proto 2000 E9. Are you familier with the Kadee conversion kit for those models? They include swing brackets design to fit.  I use them on my older P2K's. No problems with them.

Jim .. that sundae is not on my diet!

Happy Model Railroading!

Good Evening, Chloe - cup of coffee (doesn't have to be able to stand up a spoon in it, like Fergie's does... Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^]) and a hot fudge brownie sundae, please.

Thanks!

CapeJim: You're a wimp! That coffee is meant for men! Watering it down, what were you thinking man? Or was it you who sold it to the roofers??

Hey, Fergie, I never said I wanted more hair than I already have on my chest... Wink [;)] Actually, one of the roofers happened by when I was mentioning something about the coffee being too thick, and he said they were looking for a weatherproof adhesive. So I told Zoe to make a double batch in the big coffeepot that they usually reserve for our parties in the Diner, and told the roofer to make the check out to you. I also contacted the local RR lines about using the regular batch for staining their ties and utility poles. They said they thought it'd be less expensive than the old creosote they used to use. You should be getting another royalty check from them before long! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Jerry, good to see you and Mike got things figured out. Now, more pics, please! Like your quonset/junkyard dealer. Thumbs Up [tup]

Time for me to finish up my dessert and head home. Good to hear the rain's helping the Southeast some. Rob, bette not stop the raindance just yet, though. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'm posting this in a couple of forums because I have friends all over the web and you are some of them that I consider good ones.  The fact that it's in a couple of different places does nothing to water down my gratitude.  In fact, I can tell you from experience, if you read this anywhere, you're in the company of some fine people.  If you read it in more then one place, you should concider yourself blessed to know all of those fine, fine folks.

Just thought I'd give you all an update on the homefront situation.  Looks like we're going to go for it.  We call tomorrow to schedule surgery for next week.  (NEXT WEEK!!!!!!)  Gotta talk to the anesthesiologist also tomorrow and get them up to speed on this situation.

Thank you all for all of the support and prayers.  It means a lot to me, and when I told my wife about all of you and the prayers and everything she was kind of blown away.  She doesn't post here, but she really appreciates all of you.....really.  (And she thought I was just talking trains all this time!)

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  And it actually was!  Almost the first time I can say it with a straight face.  We had our first cool front of the season pass through last night.  When we went for our morning constitutional it was 60º out, great!  Even after the sun came out it only warmed up into the mid-80's, and drier than usual, so very comfortable.  I even got to turn off the air conditioning for the first time since last winter.  Big Smile [:D]

We took advantage of the nice weather and went out to the grove.  Picked some mandarin oranges (among other stuff).  They look, and taste, like they're ready, so I can declare the orange season officially open!!  Thumbs Up [tup]  I'm sure that will set well here in the Coffee Shop.  I'll get the FCVN people busy right away shipping fresh juice and fruit up your way.

I'll be off line for a few days.  We're heading up to Mexico City tonight.  We have an outing planned with my railfan buddies there.  We'll go up a couple days early just to enjoy the big city.  Should be back late Sunday night.

Jerry - glad you worked out your foto posting problems.

Garry - "Burro Express" finally delivered my MR and I got to see your photo.  Very nicely done, congratulations.

Steve:  Nov 3 the group here is going to Houston to the train show there, which apparently is much like a GATS.  Ok, it's got a lot of tinplate, etc., but it's still a train show and we feel the need to go to one.

I feel the need to go to one too.  Unfortunately, I'll be getting up there 2 weeks too late.  Enjoy.

Phil - hoping things work out alright for your wife's surgery, if you decide to go that way.

Ryan:  So Red Sox play game 1 tonight in the WS! Hey Ed, I know you're pumped up about them gettin' back into the WS, game 6 and 7 against the Indians was quite impressive play.
"Pumped" is putting it mildly.  And somehow I suspect that Dick and JP feel the same!

Speaking of the game, I need to pay attention (in between packing).  We leave on the midnight bus.

Catch you guys in a few days.

Ed

Evening Gang: As usual we did a bunch of chasing around this morning. I stopped by the tractor dealer. They are having a sale on the Case International tractors in stock, $500 below invoice. We can get an 80HP with 4 wheel drive for $28,000. Another $5,000 adds a loader. With the 0 down and 0 interest for 36 months it's a real good deal. Mary Ann didn't say no so maybe. John was here when we got home and had the swather hooked and ready to go. We headed over the the field north of the creek and started to cutting. John got around to the back side and we saw him get off and start looking around. When we got over there we found out the place was flooded. Our neighbors hired men had set a pump up to pump out there pit and they just shoved the discharge hose under the fence and had it dumping all that water into our hay field. A call got that fixed but we have about 3 acres that we can't bale. I'll have to haul the 3in gas pump ver there and pump out the low area. Neighbor said to pump it back on his place. He didn't know that what his people had done.

Fergie: Welcome home laddie. Next time could you make the coffee a little stronger? Us old Army types likes it strong.

PC: Prayers are in the pipe line.

Well time for the sack.

Evening.

I'll have a nice hot plate of chicken strips and onion rings, chloe.

Soccer practice during the hardest of the rain Seattle's seen lately makes me hungry.

All: Thanks for the concern for my dad.

Ran my E9 today. Figured out that horn hooks to work with knuckles couplers, just a weird way of coupling. I also happened to notice something... The stacks of rollingstock and loco boxes dissapeared. Turns out good o'l mom put them all in one of those tri-level plastic container bins. It's alot less cluttered now.

Ah, my meal is here.

Yes, I believe she is capable of running slower. Adding some extra weight tucked in every little nook and cranny will also help. A few sections of track have miniscule scoring on them, so with 4 wheels picking up current, if going too slow, it is going to studder on those spots. Easily remedied with a few sections of new track, which I will get for it no problem. I know this because I can slow her way down on the good sections without any hesitation, so the loco is just fine. We are both thrilled with how it looks and that it runs. It will look especially neat with some of the little scale horse drawn wagons Barbara has (circus, stage coach, fire-pumpr, etc). After reading the history of it, as described on the box, I could easily see modeling it's inaugural run with all those horse, mules and assorted animals going crazy around it.Laugh [(-D] I suspect Barbara will stick with her planned theme of a circus/carnival/zoo, which is fine also. This table layout is for her after all. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Just having her into trains period I consider a blessing.

Good evening to all, now I know how FERGIE feels when he is away for 15 days or more, man it's hard to get caught up at home never mind the Diner crowd!!!!

PC: Our prayers for your wife, and you and the family buddy.

MIKE: Have you contacted the mfg to see if they have the schematics? They should have them in archive files. Check online.

ED: Let the action begin. Wakefield will not be pitching in the series, he has shoulder problems and is really bummed out about it. The big problem is when they go to Denver, no designated hitter rule applies, so Papi can only play 1st, you really can't take Yuk's bat out of the lineup. And Drew has been going alive otherwise you could play Yuk in RF.

FERGIE: Ohh yes I do, that site is on my desktop, that's how I knew you were near Sable Is. heheheehehehehhe LOL Hey, I thought the coffee was good this morning, even Jeff thought so as well as Mike and Garry.

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Update: Barbara couldn't wait for Christmas, so I brought out the train set of the DeWitt Clinton. After some serious track cleaning, some Labelle oils, and much encouragement, the mighty little loco roared to life, (like a slot car on steroidsLaugh [(-D]). After about an hour of gradually slowing it down, it ran at (I'm guessing) 40-50mph scale speed. When I build the wifes table layout "under glass", I'll work on buying a circle of new track, which I suspect will allow for close to scale speeds. This was great for testing it out and confirming it runs. Will also add some moldable lead weight to the motorized tender unit. A funny thing we learned about it pretty quickly...it doesn't do reverse well..."train wreck". No Problem! Barbara sends her sincerest Thanks, Philip!

Interesting tidbit to share from the latest person to purchase one of my art prints: [Also I went to Engine School in Atlanta, I go from Richmond, VA, to Newport News, Va mainly coal trains, the old C and O Division and I grew up around the railroad I am the 5th Locomotive Engineer in my family.]

One of our two old ladies (mares) is lame (a front hoof). Put her on a little Bute for the pain. Will watch her close over the next few days. Poor old lady.

House water tank is a couple inches from topped off. Walked down to the creek...not even a puddle to be found anywhere. As I said previously, it would take two or three Tropical storms to hit before the creeks here would flow again. I predict in a few days the ground will be bone dry again. At least we have that reserve now...whew! Well, that's it for now from the Deep South. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob
