Mornin' All.

KJ-Glad to have ya back! Wished you'd stayed away from the N scale as you'll go blindBlindfold [X-)]Tongue [:P]Laugh [(-D] Thats gonna be quite an empire, some would kill for space like that.

Sat the Ford Tarus wagon gave up the ghost. The repair was a bent valve, broke coil, left pass window motor burned out, rt. pass. door panel popped off and the dist. was crapping out. VERY $$$. Thank God for President's Day sales!! We got a 07, black Chevy Malabu for 18,000 and it only had 4 miles on it. It has lotsof bells and whistles that are considered standard. This thing tells us when the tires ars low, how many miles we can drive before a fillup and--this is crazy--tells ya when to change the oil. May be my next car will be able to hover!? Who knows!

Party room is cool and 90% done!! It'll bring in a lot of business.

Well gotta get to work.

Prayers for all and please remember a friend I served with in the dept. She just learned she has cancer and only 6 mo. to live.

Blessings to all.

Mornin, a couple doughnuts and coffee Zoe,

Weather guessers are saying a nice day here, highs in the low 40's and partly cloudy. increasing clouds late afternoon, rain moving in tonight into tomorrow and with lows in the 20's , A winter mix, figures. They're also saying warmer temps all week, which will be nice, seeing we haven't had more than 3 days above freezing for a month.

Train show was almost a bust for me, bought a 2 bay hopper and 2 switch machines, HO selection didn't have much I was interested in. Did find a couple other things I wanted, but thing couldn't find any body to take my money, they kept wondering off, and I give up. I wasn't the only one either.

Rail fanning wasn't good either, no train, wasn't even any cars in the the yard, up there. Then to top thing, I broke the handle for the tail gate on Mother's bus.

DER, That camera you got in the pic, looks just like the one I got.

HOOPLE, I thought maybe you'd bust a gut, waiting on it to get there..

GMT, it might be cold there, but think how warm it will be in Florida for testing.

Well best get back to chores. Hope ya'll has a gooden

Morning all. Just a quick stop. Today's a holiday for the CFO and me. She's off to Sam's Club and then Target. I'm soon off to the doctor - nothing serious. Then I'm going bythe old house to pick up some swtches and flex track (We haven't completely emptied it out, yet. Gotta get that done and get it rented). I have a couple pieces of 1'x8' plyboard from a earlier project. I'll layout the turnouts and track to help get the feel for how I want the Vira extension to look.

Not quite, John, Lewistown will stand away from the wall with hidden staging in the back behind a mountain/viewblock. The Lewistown portion itself may be as deep as three feet. Some will be for the viewblock, background buildings, and in the midground, for the PRR to pass through on its way from Harrisburg to Altoona with a stop for passengers, of course. PC cent me a number of photos of the Lewistown station a while back. Now I get to scratch build it!. In the foreground will be PRR and M&V interchange and switching action. It is the Vira extension that may be as little as 18" deep.

 Gotta go.

Good Morning All,

9F this morning with the high to be in the twenties. We'll have fun loading the truck in this but at least it's sunny.

Hoople - The Bachmans' seem a good deal and the other place to look is Trainworld. I like the way the Bachmans run though the steam engines have troubles if the trackwork is off the least little bit.I have a light mtn a couple of 44 tonners and an EF4 electric plus a N&W J which is still in its' box. More to the point, if the solder keeps coming off, you are probably not getting the joint hot enough. What do you use for soldering, and what size and type of solder are you using? If you are trying to simply resolder an existing connection, try a little resin flux on the parts to make a clean secure join. Should be stronger than the wire used.

Paul - What sort of milling machine do you have at home? It must be nice to have a big enough barn for all that.

Since Bill was nice enough to top the page for us, I'll just have one of the donuts and a regular coffee. Time to get on with w..k see Y'all later.  J.R.

Evenin' Chloe - just a hot cocoa to go, please. Thanks!

Paul, your hearing is fine, I just don't snore (at least, when I was married, my wife never said I did). Wink [;)] Now your vision might be another matter, since my body is kind of hard to hide in that corner booth...Shock [:O]

I got most of the mainline track nailed down this afternoon/evening - and I had to take up some because it was getting too close to the edge of the cork roadbed on one side. Found my extension cord, so I was able to use my Dremel to drill some additional holes for the spikes. I now have all the mainline (and the initial tracks off of it) all the way out to near the ends of the section. Feels better to get closer to done. Of course, I may have to take some of it back up for running feeder wires to under the board, but we'll see. Maybe I can carefully drill holes for the feeder wires from underneath and not damage the track. Guess I should start taking some pics again and post some of the progress, huh? Oops [oops]

We had sunshine here today, and it warmed up to the upper 40's, which was nice! Supposed to warm up more tomorrow. Probably had a fair amount of the snow we had left, melting today. How's the white stuff up your way, JP or Dick or DerJohn and our N.S. crew? On the news tonight, they had about North Dakota's capitol regaining the world record for the most snow angels in one place (over 8900 people!) on the grounds of the capitol there.

That's about it for me - heading for bed now. Hope everyone had a good weekend (even those of us who have to go back to wCensored [censored]k in the morning (like myself)).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Der: Not only do I have 2 abyss tracks, I have a 4' x 8' and I use 22" radius...
The darn solder didn't hold out. The heavy mountain is busted again...
Inch: Why are you worried about me?
On other news, I've got another evil plot. (You may notice I have one every month or so...)
Micro mark tooling is selling Bachmann Spectrum engines at very low prices, some with sound, and the prices are going to go to March 31st.
I want to get the 2-8-0 with a Tsunami for $142.50, $155 with shipping.(Thank goodness I am getting my allowance again... This time $10 a week. I used to have $5 a week.)
Well, gotta go, (Not really...)

A quick Good evening to all:  Had a productive day on museum things yesterday, and again this p.m…Looks like a Historical Society for this area may be a go. It’s certainly needed, and anyway I’ve now got a volunteer who knows what he’s about to take good photos of all our artefacts.Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike:  Nice score on the camera.

Hoople:  Sounds like you’re having fun!  Abyss tracks, I like that. Have several around here.  Wasn’t there a discussion some time ago about “How close to the layout edge are your tracks?”  Some of mine are quite close.

JP: Spring training was on our TV news this evening.  I had just the same thought…roll on summer!

Found this on a (London) Daily Telegraph web site the other day. It brought back fond memories.

KJ:

Yes, the Maitland and Vira will be more of a point to point operation.

TV in just a bit.  Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Evening Gang: No MRRing today. I had to get Mary Ann's truck ready for it's inspection. for starters I had to charge the batteries. While that was going on I went to get the ridding mower out and checked over. One rear tire was flat and the battery was flat. So I pushed it over to the shop and aired up the tire. I had to wait for the truck batteries to charge up so couldn't put the charger on it. While I waited on that I started to clean up the milling machine. I finally got the truck started and put the charger on the mower. Found that the left turn signal blub was burned out. I got the mower started and Mary Ann started mowing the yard while I went to town to get a blub. Got back and replaced the blub and finished checking out the truck. We feed the cattle and got the chores done and I'm ready for bed. I'm tired.

Now I can't check my E-mail because PeoplePC doesn't recgognize my name. I am about feed up with them. I'll check on high speed tomorrow.

I guess my little trick last night worked, sorry JR.

Jim my hearing is so bad I didn't hear you over there in the corner.

I'm off to bed.

Good Evening All,

Watched the race though I lost interest once Stewart was out. It would have been nice to see Mark Martin win but that wasn't in the cards either. All together too much wrecking - maybe they should lose the restrictors and use the road course chicane in the back.

Been doing chores and molding plaster all day. In between I got some more sceicking in on my gravel operation. Now all I need to do is figure out the secret to putting the pics where I can post them - used to be so easy, now I can't even get them to load.

Hope the rest of you had a good day.   CUL, J.R.

Afternoon all. A tall ginger ale sounds really good! It's a bit chilly this afternoon but the sun is shining. Hopefully we will soon see an end to this winter. I have some golf clubs calling my name.

Yes, the Maitland and Vira will be more of a point to point operation. Vira will have a granite quarry at the end of the line with a few business between there and Lewistown. I'm actually thinking of making this part of the layout only about eighteen inches deep.

In Lewistown I plan on including a version of John Allen's timesaver as a part of the track plan. I built a diorama of it to take to the office last November and it's been there ever since. That way I get to look at trains all day at work.

In Maitland I may put either a loop or a turntable. I have enough businesses there to require some good switching. I'm using XtrakCad and I'll post some ideas in the future to get your comments. I want to be sure this railroad is designed correctly. I made too many mistakes in the last one.

I was looking at the old layout this morning and I think that I can take it and turn it sideways to help me get the Lewistown part started.

Later...

I got the Zephyr friday night, installed it and ran my daylight, then yesterday I got my 4-8-2 fixed. (The only problem was I mixed up two function wires, so now the headlight doesn't come on. whoops....) Don't worry about me knocking one off the table, they run in the direction where the two abyss tracks can only be accessed by backing up.

Well, the one I sat in through the morning was unbelievably boring as usual.  It's English Composition.  They're teaching us how to write a research paper.  Now I've been in College off and on since 1990, and for the last three and a half years solid.  I'm very close to my bachelors degree.  If I can't write a research paper by now, shame on them for waiting until now to teach me!  I've written a plethora of papers, all of them done to the standards that are being taught, but they insist that I must sit there and write another for this class.  I suppose I should look at it as an easy grade though, huh?

Now, the class in the evening was great.  I teach that one, so I have a lot more freedom.  I enjoy that one immencely.

Mornin., an irish coffee Janie,

Not to bad  a day instore here, suppose to be sunny and a high in the mid 20's, sure hoping the roads are cleared tween here and Mattoon. Yesterday was bad, only ended up with a couple inches snow, but the highways were bad, from blowing drifting snow, out in the open areas. Alot of wrecks and slid offs, several people ended up in the hospital.

Their still predicting a warm up for this week [upper 30's to low 40's] and rain of course, mixed with snow at night.

Bryan, came over yesterday and he brought me a deal to good to pass up, a Praktica SLR 135 camera. Now I have a new toy to play with.

HOOPLE, glad you got that engine and got it going, I begining to worry bout you.

Got some play time yesterday on the layout even ran a couple trains. I'll be glad when I get some siding and that in, but that'll be a spell yet. Figure on some more time in there today before and after the swap meet.

Best get onto chores, hope ya'll has a good day

Hoople - good to hear you used your waiting time productively. Thumbs Up [tup]

I must have been dozing in the corner too much today - earlier, I was trying to find an article by David Barrow on his 'dominoes' layout planning ideas, but couldn't find it. Looked in the indices for the MRP issues that I have, but didn't think I saw it. However, when I got back home this evening, I found the article in the first MRP (1996) issue I started looking in, so guess it's a good thing I have a new pair of glasses coming in this next week(!).

Chloe, would you get me a hot fudge brownie sundae too, please?  Thanks. Dinner [dinner]

'Bout time for me to get back at the tracknailing again. See everyone tomorrow (if I don't get snowed in... Laugh [(-D]

Blessings on the rest of your weekend,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Wow, slow night and down to page two well now..................... bump.

Spent the day making a tool box cart for the new trailer out of 2" angle. Came out ok. Mechanical department meeting for the museum after that, then dinner for my oldest son and my wife B-days. Still have managed to make up a couple more wall castings for the museum HO display so some work done.

Welcome back KJ. 13 x 23 in N should be enough for a real empire good going.

and see Hoople - patience is a virtue.   Night All, tomorrow should be busy.   Big Smile [:D] J.R.
