Good Morning, fellow Diners! Zoe, a cup of coffee and one of Bill T.'s donuts, please. Yep, the chocolate ones. Smile [:)]

Inch, our weather yesterday was much like yours (except for the dusting of snow; didn't get that). Supposed to be colder today, I think the high is supposed to be 31 (F). Right now, it's 21 F with a wind chill of about 9 degrees. Brrrrr!! Thank Heaven for warm coats.

Yesterday was hectic at my work - had a call before I even left for work - the on-call therapist from the night before was finishing up one at the ER, and told me that the local police had one for us there. But my backup daytime guy (David) was out yesterday getting tests done, so I went in to work first and asked our clinical director if she wanted me to go then or not (and leave her and any other clinical staff to handle any walk-ins). I then left for the guy at the jail, and got back about 3 hours later. Asked my clinical director (my boss) how things had been (hectic). Good to let them know that we need another person in the crisis department. Maybe they'll actually hire another person (yeah, right...).Wink [;)]

Best part of the day was after 3 p.m., when things finally slowed down, and then the rep from one hospital we refer to (mostly when kids need to be hospitalized) treated me to dinner out. The particular hospital is pretty good in terms of working with us, so we tend to refer a lot to them, anyway, but getting a free steak dinner is good. Dinner [dinner]Smile [:)]

However, that meant I missed MRR club, and picking up my order that's in. Have an Athearn tractor-trailer rig, three P2K Timesaver oil tanker kits, and some smaller stuff in.

Better get going - got to get off to work. Hope no one gets snowed (or iced) in today and can't get to the ETS Diner (or worse yet, can't work in the train room!).Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Have a good one!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Dick,  Yes, we have 2 new inches since 4:00 this morning. It should change to rain about noon.  I am hoping that it will wash away by the time that I get off work.

Philip,  The fruit bowl looks good today.

Good morning fellers!

How about a bowl of Kashi cereal with some fresh blueberries and organic skim milk Chloe?

Have you ever been in the zone? I was in the zone this weekend!

Friday I was off for my "Flex Friday" and did my share of chores around the house including vacuum, sweeping, and mopping all the hardwood and linoleum floors, among other things.

Then I went to Train Buddy to pick up my order for Digitrax PM42's, SE8C, and a few BDL168's, and a .008 razor saw. Chatted with Kim and fellers a bit and left there feeling good, having just spent my Christmas gift cert + a few extra $$$.

Then off run a few errands, grocery and such.

I finally got to organize a lot of my layout construction tools in the new Craftsman Project Center that the misses gave me for Christmas. Boy was that a great gift!

FYI - The tools are always found in the right place, just where I want them to be at all times. Did I say "In the Zone" Yep, that's me, I'm in the zone. Everything was clicking now, amazing how once you get organized everything starts falling into place.

Also, spent about 3 hours in the train room yesterday afternoon and laid down about 30' of track and turnouts with latex caulk.

How bout dem Saints?

Beat the Eagles 27 to 24 and now off to meet da Bears on Sunday! Saints in the Superbowl? Faith, Hope, and Sean!

Now to play catch-up on the last 8 pages....

Cheers,

Ryan

RYAN: Great game last night, but, that was a bonehead play with 2 minutes remaining. Trying a lateral when you KNOW Philly was doing everything to strip the ball was almost a gimme. Never risk those plays with 2 minutes remaining in the game and you ahead...just run the clock out! Of course Philly was equally dumb by punting the ball away at the end....the season was over if the Saints got one 1st down, which they did....... good game to watch though, not boring at all.

Sure was, the score see-sawed back and forth and it sure was a nail bighter too! Now it's off to Chicago and da Bears! I have to agree, I had to walk out of the room when Bush fumbled and loss that toss towards the end.

Jeff, nice tutorial on the backdrop redux! Thanks!

Flip, got your emails, sure are funny too, thanks!

PA Belt, now that is one DIY oil change project I would like to see on one of them 30 minute TV shows. LOL, that was a good one!

Da Bears, dem Saints! Yep, historical game too for the Saints, first time in their 40 year history ever to make it to the NFC Championship Game.

Bears - Saints game should be a good one, but both teams will have play as good or better, than they did last weekend. Don't know if Grossman will be any good. He has problems putting two good half togather at one time, let alone two games.  I look for Indy to beat NE. NE will have to play a lot better or have alot more luck.  I'd sure like to see NE-Bears super bowl.

Conventional wisdom picks NE-Bears in the Super Bowl, but I have to go with my heart and put the Saints vs. Patriots for the final match up.

Well I am enjoying this 6 day weekend!
Most of the snow was gone yesterday, so I got to go to the train show. Wasn't quite good this time. There were A MILLION kids under 4 years old, There weren't as many layouts and they were all smaller than usual, and my to favorite layouts, the O hi-rail and the 4D HO modulars, weren't running the best equip., because the 4d had only one steam engine there, and the hi-railers dind't have any one of their 5 big boys there.
Back to the snow. It snowed 3 inches today. I don't have school, but for some strange reason, my sister has to go an hour later.

Good afternoon gents, the temps rose last night briefly to 40F, and that caused all the ice on the trees and wires to melt off.....thank God, because we have high winds and very cold weather due here tonight right through the weekend, and that would surely bring down trees like it already has north of us just 20 miles and into NH.

Temp right now is  26.1F and falling, the Dew point is falling also, now at 15F, which is the temp that air temp could fall to. It is cludy and cold here.

JEFF: Better not wander out onto the roads tonight with freezing rain due......

RYAN: NE has to get by Colts first, and they have very good passing attack....the key will be the rush on Payton, he gets erratic if they get a good rush on him.

MIKE: I was watching a program on the Weather Channel called "It could Happen Tomorrow", and it was all about what would happen when ( not if ) the New Madrid fault quakes again, and it is overdue. It will be real bad, in fact devasting. And you are correct in your statement that because of the ground conditions (silt ), the damage will be tremendous. During the last big one there in the 1800's, the quake was felt ALL THE WAY EAST TO BOSTON, MA...can you imagine that one!!! Had to over an 8!!

BGARDNER: How is the plumbing job coming along? New bathroom time yet?

SUE: With the change in the weather pattern, the East is now going to get Winter, so the West should warm up a bit. I was talking with some people in the General Forum who live in AZ and CA, and their pools have ice on them, and they had to take their locos into the house from their garage layouts because they didn't know what effect the cold would have on the electronics, ie Decoders, sound systems, etc.

Time to go throw another log on the fire, talk later guys,

Grayfox: You don't have to tell me twice, my car has regular road tires on it. Besides which, it's in the shop right now for major front-end work. I'm having the right CV axle, both outer tie rod ends, both strut mounts and the control arm bushings replaced. While it's there, I'm also having the rear shocks replaced.

Since Colby's buying, I'll have the burrito.

Hi Gang: 17 and counting.

Just a short note. The ice is gone for the most part. Now it is getting really cold. I think that we had the high for the day early this morning. I've been working on the bar girl for the Mine Trains saloon scene. She is getting the complete rehab. Speaking of which I'd better get back at it.

See you all later.

Afternoon all,  Looking foward to a low of 16F tonight and the snow has been comming off the lake all day.  I had some down tipe at work so I wandered around youtube and found some interesting Mrr movies.  One of them has a very nice SF 2-10-2 with steam and sound, the steam even comes out of the pistons.  Another video has a smoke generator in the stack of the caboose.  There is one of how to model grass and stuff.  The first link is the search page I went to and the remander are videos I thought were interesting.  Enjoy ~

Interesting thing happened today.

I was on my way to work and my drive takes me along the CSX tracks for some distance.  In a nearby town is a little used siding.

I happened along there just before sunup and what should I see but a Model 40 Borro and a boom car!

Now I was just talking the other day to someone who was saying they hadn't seen a railroad crane in use for years.  He said all that he saw was truck, or at the most, Hi-Rail based cranes.  Fortunately, I had my camera.  It was quite dark out, and it was snowing, but I got these to show for it.

Good evening everyone......I see that there was a bad derailment down south, tankers cars on fire with hazardous material.....road work had just been completed on the tracks, so I am sure that will be scrutinized to the "n"th degree.

JEFF: Good move on what you are having done to front end while CV's are being replaced. Most people try to save money by waiting till other parts fail, but that is not only dangerous but will cause excessive wear to other parts, possibly even the new parts. I can tell you are very preventive maintenance minded, a rare breed these days.

RT: WOW, that is too bad about Fergie, he has had one tough year. The first contractor never gets to the job for months, then tells him certain parts he didn't agree to, so Fergie has to hire another contractor and wait for him to start, he finally does, then his wife gets broken wrist ( both I think), then his dad gets very sick and is in the hospital for months, now the plumber wants to stiff him with a rediculous amount ($$) for the work, and it sounds like more emergencies healthwise has arisen.....man he needs our prayers!!!!

CHUCK, KATHY, SUE: It looks like our northwest contingent of MRR'rs are getting still more snow......maybe you all should consider a layout that incorporates a mountain/woodland scene with SNOW. LOL

Will someone give DUKE a poke over at the corner table...he's asleep and might get soup in his beard. Never mind....Cloe's dog is licking the beard.

Hi Gang: No MRR again tonight. We had to go into the feed store right after I got home to get some feed for the horse. She's 32 years old so she gets what ever she wants.

Fergie shows up across the street once in a while. Lee that's his dad in the hospital. By the way that's good advice about the match and the gas fumes. A couple of kids got on a 10,000 gal, storage tank at a well site. They opened the hatch and lighted a piece of paper to see what was in it. One of the boys dropped the paper into the tank and it exploded. The one boy was killed the other got away with minor injuries. We've got three of those tanks on our well.

PC: Good pictures of the Burro crane. I've got video of one on the Wisconsin motoring down the track with a gondola.

The Soo locks are closed. The last ship down bound was the Reyerson. Another season comes to a close on the lakes.

Well I think that I'll head for bed. 4:45 am comes early. 16 days

Good Night All

RT: sorry to hear about your Father, I hope things get better as time goes on.  I assume it's YOUR BIRTHDAY?!?  Happy Birthday, please fill us in on the cool present's you got.

PC: cool pictures, I've never seen a Burro before, the only thing around here is the 250 ton jobs and the 50 ton cranes left abandoned at the docks.

John:  I sent you pictures of the locomotive/car shop did you get them?

Need to reread that was about Fergie and the birthday thing was his way of saying he needed a drink

Good evening folks:  Colder now than this morning when we were shoveling out the end of the driveway. Going to get much colder too. (Thanks for the heads up Dick)

I phoned Fergie this afternoon. (I hadn’t then seen RT’s note)  He’s been very tied up with subcontractor woes, and having his Dad home with the reno incomplete hasn’t made life easier. He didn’t mention it…but belatedly, Fergie…or whoever.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

The next phase of my ocean scene is to do the surf.  I have Flex Paste, which dries opaque white, and can be brushed into waves, but I want foam as well.  I have this idea of whipping the paste to see if it will form a foam like whipped cream, but don’t know the physical chemistry, so I’ll try an experimental batch, and apply whatever results to a test piece.  First however I’m going to try a variant of my ground cover sawdust / white glue mix.  Since the FP is opaque, I’m going to mix some sawdust with the paste, and see if the resultant fuzz will be workable into surf-like shapes with pointy splashy bits to represent the spray of surf.  If that works, I may not have to go the “whipped cream” route.

Jerry, glad your wheels are running better. That’s a long time to wait for a service call.

Paul:

The Soo locks are closed. The last ship down bound was the Reyerson. Another season comes to a close on the lakes.
Do you know when the latest close was, strikes me Jan 16 is quite late.

Just think, in a few weeks you won’t have to care about 4:45 a.m as a time at all!

Well, I’ve tests to run, so I’ll bid thee all a fond adieu. and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, peace or respite care.Angel [angel]

I had me a little accident about 2 pm today. It's been raining here off and on, so everything's wet and slick. I was walking (I call it that) down to my parents place when I slipped on a muddy patch of ground. The end result was that when I went to get up, my back like he**. I'm fairly sure it's just a pulled muscle, but if it's still hurting like this after a couple of days, I'm gonna have it checked out. I decided the best thing would be to keep the strain off it so I got a few hours sack time. It doesn't hurt as bad now, so maybe I got lucky.

Philip,  I cannot believe that you had you camera.  What a stroke of luck.  Great pictures.  What is for dinner?

Dick, Thanks for the offer for the snow shovel.  I will take the pool.

The snow that came today was great to drive on this morning, but the driveway was a bit sloppy tonight.  The mail carrier didn't come today either.  I am expecting some cowboy figures for the layout. Patience.  Patience.

Later all,  Sue

SUE: You want my pool instead of my snow shovel????? Welllllllllll OK, but there is an inch of ice on it and by morning maybe two inches. In July the water temp is about 80 though......maybe on your vacation east you can stop by, and Lisa only lives about 1.25 hours northeast of me.

JEFF: Hope your back is Ok in the morning.....don't worry about opening the Diner and putting the coffee ON, I think LUC will be here early, or maybe Steve from across the pond.

DER JOHN: The best is yet to come , wait until you see your thermometer in the morning!!!!!!!A two dog night for you tonight, we'll get away with one dog, maybe two tomorrow night.

Bon Soir mais amis

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!
