Morning folks!

How about a short stack, some fresh coffee and some of Ed's Special Limited OJ, Chloe?

Venus was quite bright early this morning, got to view it just before day brake.

Now that the NFL Indianapolis Love Fest is over.....

Rob - sounds like you got quite a farm stock going there, I thought I had a zoo with ducks, rabbits, dogs, cats, fish, and amphibians at one time. You got the real deal feller!

Duke - Yep, 28 days and counting....and you will get to meet Ben this time I want him to meet your mascot too! Racecars look like fun.

Speaking of racecars did you know that you can spell that word the same backwards and forwards R-A-C-E-C-A-R

Hey, Hoosier Daddy....don't go hijacking my post!!!

Nscaler - keep your chin up and don't worry. Like Dick said, give it time and this too shall pass.

Ed - thanks for the update on the grove, now we can be assured of another shipment of OJ to get us through the winter. Yea, I remember Tom and Bill from a few years back. Speaking of a few years back, whatever happened to the birthday calendar?

Mike - thanks for pulling for the Saints, but they just about laid an egg last night, oh well, and least the NFL love affair with Indy show is over.

Jim - Thanks! And the tunnel end is finally in sight so you might be seen in me pop in more often in the next few weeks.

Garry - thoughts and prayers continue!

Steve - Welcome to the Diner, and have a virtual cup of coffee on me! Mighty fine article you got printed there in the Oct 07 MR! My goal is to eventually hook up one of my old Dell PC's to the Digitrax system and use either Winlok or the other software JMRI I think. You got a book coming out anytime soon on DCC Signaling, block and turnout detection?

I'll have a large black coffee please.  Pour one for Steve.

Waiter Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the diner.  I saw your article in MRR.
A lot of effort went into compiling it.  Thanks.

Hello....just a quick stop in the diner..

Welcome to Steven Barkley from Garry on Lake Barkley. The signal article looks great, but I've not had a chance to read it. By coincedence I have a photo in Trackside Photos of the same issue. Also, Steve, you said you are an NP modeler, and I have several NP locos and cars, too.

Everbody...... Many thanks again.

Mornin, Coffee please Zoe,

Had some more rain during the night, got bout a ½ inch so far [since yesterday] and the grounds almost dry in most places already. More rain forecast for this afternoon and through Monday. Highs today, mid 80's with clouds and a S wind.

DICK,, the gardens here are same as done, I've even started cleaning it up. We may get a batch or two of whole tomatoes canned from ours and with some extras both our moms' gardens, but that's it. We do both canning methods, pressure canner inside and boiling outside on the campfire pit [keeps some of the heat outside].

JIM CG,, rain won't help the veggie garden, but it's still very welcome, I've got some flowers to transplant still

STEVE, welcome to the dinner and have a cup on me and hope you enjoy your visits here. Haven't seem the Oct MR yet, but looking forward to it now.

Some more from last Sundays trip. We started home and seen a west bound empty UP coal drag [no chance for pics], then when we got on east of T-town we found a UP Loaded east bound on a siding. I did get a couple of the push engine.

I didn't get any of the lead engines then, no good places to pull off. But I knew where he was heading, so we went on home. Then I headed over to the Cline Orchard crossing to wait and get'em on their way through.

Still got a few more from over there, but I'm trying to find out some info first.

Got J Birds this morning and a very busy weekend ahead. I think we're keeping kids tomorrow while their moms n dads go on Chucks ride poker run. Chuck was killed in Iraq 3 years ago and left behind a wife and son [that's when the ride started]. The money raised goes into a collage fund for his son.

Little league football Sat night and Sunday afternoon, so not much rail fanning, less it's local.

Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe.

inch

PS, yesterday was not good for me as far as sports.  Da Cubs lost again, Brewers [even now] and Cards [1 back now] won. Then the Indy ponies won. I shall not express my feeling at this time due to censoring.

RYAN,  I always root for the Saints [unless they play the da Bears for some reason] and had high hopes for last night. I'm afraid the affair with the horses' buts will go on for awhile unfortunately.

***Ryan, as a youth I had many amphibians & reptiles, mostly lizards. Too difficult to keep them healthy and safe with power outages here, not to mention keeping decent food for them year round.

***inch, I like that last photo. Really shows the elevation change in the track. How does one model that (lay track) and still have the trains operate well?

Got the FIL loaded no problem. He's more agile than I expected. Had to take him to the Doctor (got custody of him...one down, one more to goMischief [:-,]Evil [}:)]Laugh [(-D]) Wife and I were both ready to "throw momma from the train" today. Even some relatives are suggesting we bag this idea and have them both instatutionalized. I'll go along with whatever the wife decides....might be worth having that new train room...tough call.Whistling [:-^]

Passed by a brightly colored (lots of red) GP-something today on a siding with some fellas on it chatting about something. It was a small facility with a dozen or so covered hoppers. Would have stopped if I could and snapped a photo. Oh well.

Hope everyone is having a nice (and sane) day. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day (if rather hot and humid) down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  I was lazy as usual, although I did take time to try and reorganize the bookshelves to better accommodate all those MR magazines and books.

inch:  good to hear the orange grove came through with almost minor damage. Guess that means plenty of fresh squished before long.
Ryan: thanks for the update on the grove, now we can be assured of another shipment of OJ to get us through the winter
Yup, that's about he size of it.

BaylorMax / Steve - I perked up when I read "Beaumont", because I know some model railroaders down there.  Then I got more intrigued when I read about your article in MR, as I'm thinking that one of the guys I know in Beaumont wrote an article on DCC for MR a couple of years ago.  Then when I saw the photo of the layout, I said to myself, "That layout looks real familiar."  And when I finally saw your name, I knew.

Sure enough, I (and my wife) have been to your house a couple of times (once you weren't there), and even have a photo of myself and my son running trains on the layout.  While you may not remember me, you might recall that I was the guy from Mexico that Bob Stephens (Teffy), who used to be a regular on the original Coffee Shop thread (long running predecessor of this thread) brought over.  So "Welcome" to the forum and the thread.

By the way, for those of the regulars here who remember Teffy, I spoke to him on the phone a couple of weeks ago.  He's doing fine, still busy with his post-retirement job.  Says he hasn't done any model railroading in almost a year.  But he's starting to look at how much longer he's going to work and figures that after he gives it up he may have time to get involved again.

That's about it for today.  Catch you guys tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Evening Gang: The road project is finished at least for the rental unit is concerned. john went out there a 3 am and worked it untill I got there to take over. We used all but .3 hours of the 40. Close enough. There are still things that need to be done but we can handle them with the equipment that we own.

Garry: Any help you can give on the 2-6-0 will be appreaciated. Knowing Terry he will do a great job on it.

Well I guess I'll hit the sack. Since the road job is done I can sleep in tomorrow. I'll try and act more like a retired guy.

Ed,

I remember you!  I talked with Teffy last week and he's still doing well.  Stephanie, his wife, is still making remarkable recovery from her stroke of a few years ago.  His job keeps him busy as he works late mornings to late evenings many days.

We're having an operating session either next weekend or the weekend after.  A bunch of us are going to start going after our Master Model Railroader certificates and Railroad Dispatcher is one that we can earn fairly easily using my layout.  Of course earning the certificates for master builder cars or locomotives just won't be that easy!

It's Saturday morning and I'm on my first cup of coffee.  I'm going over to my girlfriend's in a bit and pick up her and her grandson to go to his soccer game.  This is a new one for me, as my late wife and I had no children.

Oh, if you did not know, I lost my wife a year ago.  I've started seeing a widow in my Sunday School class.  My wife and I knew her and her late husband socially and often had lunch together after church.  It's really strange dating again at my age!\

Well, the first cup is gone and I think I'll close here and refill my coffee.  Have a great weekend everyone!

stong as possible, in a Union Pacific mug, please and thank you.

And on the topic of UP, I came ever so close to buying a N scale SD90/43MAC last night, one on the few diesels on my wish list. Glad I didn't, as I really can't justify the expense at the moment. Perhaps I should let go of a few more vintage locos first...but that's not an easy one for me, either. I LIKE my vintage stuff. Anyone want to give me a winning lottery ticket so I can have it all?Laugh [(-D]

***Paul, I don't think you work hard enough. Hey, you missed a spot, now get out there and finish it with a shovel.Wink [;)] (hope you were able to sleep in)

***Steve, hope you find some companionship. Saw my Dad do the same thing following mother's passing. They all had luhcn together, too. Now Dad is dating yet another, and he's in his 80's. BTW, nice layout pic. Especially like the look of the yard there.

***Jeffrey, would it be possible to cast a blue filtered light (very low watt or from far away) to allow the ground and outer elements to be ever so slightly visible, while leaving the interior lit exactly as you have done? Nice shots.

Mornin, coffee and a sweet roll for me Janie

Cloudy, warm and damp here today, but at least the rains suppose to end today. It rained on last night's football game, but we got lucky and found a place we could park and watch it from the end zone in the car. Good game, the kids played hard, but we lost by 2 points in over time.

ROB,, I don't know how you'd model that grade, since it's spread over  all most a mile. It's less than a 1% grade through there [I'm guessing], the zoom on the camera makes look greater than it is in person.

ED / STEVE,, glad to hear Teffy and his wife are doing ok and the next time ya talk to him, tell'em we're still thinking bout'em.

STEVE,, good luck with ya'll getting certified masters. I've heard it not an easy chore. As far as kids an sports, have fun. The kids games can be quit enjoyable at least it is with the grandkids here. Enjoy your layout pics too.

JEFF,,, the pics with new camera are great really and I really liked the night shots.

Here's the last of last Sunday's pics, we found a Bud coach, built around 1950, and retired in 2000 from Sunset Limited, believe it ran mostly round Florida. It's being restored by the EFRR, there in Effingham.

Here are some of the outside details from it.

It's own by the same guy that owns that short line. I was told he has 3 observation cars running round also.

I found ut a little more the baggage car I got pics of last year. It's own and being restored by another guy there in town and will make it's way to the Monticello rail museum some day. He also owns some other pieces there.

I've got a couple-3 more pics from this past Thur. to post.

Got another kid game this afternoon [at least the rains suppose to end by then], I hope I get home in time to watch the Bears. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

***Paul, a Bucyrus Erie or Marion would indeed be most enjoyable. BTW, have used the loader on our little JD a few times to push out of some mud holes over the years. They sure come in handy.

***inch, enjoyed the photos & links to your others.

Nothing worth reporting at the moment. Hope everyone has a great day.
