Good Morning All,
Still damp out but at least it's not raining just now. I'm beginning to feel like I live near Seattle. Open discussion night last night at the museum weekly meeting but no real sense of where we need to be going beyond the boards. Some interesting nuts and bolts" things though. Rail museums are a bit different than most as we need to restore our own exhibits as well as fund raise to just keep the doors open. It's tough to get peole to volunteer.
No model layout work either this week yet. I do want to get a seperate power source for the million or so switch machines (all twin coil type - mostly Peco and Atlas) and in researching have found many familiar names attached to the posts that help (right DER?)
If I remember correctly, Ed in Mexico is having issues getting access to post but can monitor ok. He does pop up occasionally on trainboard and such.
All for now - back to the grindstone and all. CUL,J.R.
Mornin coffee please Zoe,
Well we missed the forecast rain yeserday so it's drying out some, farmers will be stirrin dirt shortly. I figuringing on tillen the garden this weekend.
Haven't gotten any thing done on the layout, by the time the kids leave and chores are done, just haven't felt like it. Maybe I'll get some done this weekend
Going to get some mowing done today since I got no kids till this evening. KC's spending night with us because Leroy has to have some minor surgery bout 5am our time tomorrow. best get ta chores, hope ya'll has a gooden

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Sure is quiet in here at this time of the day. But that just makes it easier to watch the trains rumble by the diner.
Silverspike- Thanks for asking about Runt, she's right here by my side, doing what all good dogs are doing at this time of the morn, snoring like a grizzily bear. It always amazes me how such a small punkin can make soooo much noise. I've thought about recording it and marketing a line of steam and diesel sound effects.
grayfox and der- With the recent weather, I'm tempted to find that train Ed hopped and climb on board with him! I'll zip him a mail too, maybe we can drag him back in here. He is a fantastic source of information.
Paul B- I like Texas, it has a huge amount to offer, but I love those lakes. Both of 'em beat the cornfields around here!

Yup. UPS estimates next wednesday.... So if I come in wed. Either it will be:
A) YAY!!! IT CAME! bye now im gonna go play with it.
B) DARN YOU UPS YOU ESTIMATED WRONG!!!
C) YAY IT CAME YESTERDAY!!! IT WAS EARLY!!!
I hope its the last one,
Mark
Good Evening, Chloe, I figured I needed to come into the Diner before they towed it away, thinking it was closed! Cup of hot chocolate for me, please. I'll be nice to DerJohn, since he's buying.
JR, that's some water problem in your shop. Good thing you did have the floor sockets out of commission for years before.
I think our rain (mist, really) is pretty well gone, maybe to join its big brother out in the Atlantic? Hope all of you on the east coast are starting to dry out and drain down.
Hoople, good to hear the Connie is coming on the way to you. It probably still will seem like forever, though, before it arrives.
Hey, Paul, you sure you're retired? You sound like you've been having busier days lately than mine have been. Was the calf okay that the momma 'forgot' after being left behind when she came home?
We may have to go get the bloodhounds and have Duke use 'em to track down Ed's whereabouts, unless Ed shows up soon. I know! Let's announce a party in the Diner on Friday night! That'll bring him in, right?
Looked through some MR's tonight, but not much else in the MRR'ing department for me. Guess I'll mosey on home and catch some
Blessings and prayers for all those in need of them (seems like a lot lately),

Good evening folks: A JR Regular please Zoe, and a slice of banana bran loaf with Becel. I’m only 10 pages or so behind, so I thought I’d better drop in and catch up on things. First of all, condolences to any affected personally by the VT tragedy. One of the profs killed was Canadian. She and her husband moved to VT from Truro, Nova Scotia. He teaches Horticulture, and she taught French. In fact she started a French language school in Truro.
Second, and Welcome Back to those new,(Bob K., AztecEagle, Chuck ) and returned (Phil & Rob L.,Dan; Alex & David).
Mike:
some look better than those high dollor kits.
Sue:
We have Yarrow that I have tried to kill unsuccessfully. It is somewhat invasive.
Colby, thanks for the shots of your layout. I like your use of roads, it’s a feature I’ve only really tried to do on this present layout. Before, they were just bridges and such leading off the layout in a couple of places. BTW, that red SFX loco was great!
Jerry:
is that tower still in use? Not many left...
Trent:
The reason given was my file was filed under the WRONG Dr. and WRONG letter of the alphabet.
JR: Thanks for the pics of your BIL-once-removed’s layout. Looking forward to seeing more of that in due course.
Garry: Your strata technique reminds me of the stacked ceiling tile method, but more rock-like with the plaster. Do you score in any lines, or leave it as is? Speaking of scores, what’s the score in that volleyball game up to now?
Alex: Did you get the track up yet? Jerry’s water soaking method works really well if it was white glue that was used. I soak a small towel, wring it out, and lay it on the track, pressing it down for contact. Go away and do something else until the glue is showing white. That’s how I tell it’s time to get out the scraper. Even if you are doing a new layout, can you salvage the old track and re-use it perhaps?
Jeff: Those buildings just keep on coming. No wonder you’ve lost count! They sure make those scenes.
Fergie: Heading for the Grand Banks with this Nor’ Easter does sound lumpy! At any rate in the Hudson you won’t be rescuing crews stuck in the pack ice off Fogo. Glad the loco survived its dive.
RT:
Good news from the doc RT! I know the Mrs. will be happy now! (You too!) Philip
cwchuck: Our grandkids have been straightened out considerably (from a no so good discipline situation) by their mother (single parent) being able to get them into Cadets.
Dick:
but it could get worse as the storm moves by NS sometime on Thursday and Friday.
Take off the roof and use tweezers?
Phil:
Ed- So how are the oranges and mangos and papayas and papooses all doing? Hope all are doing great.
Ryan:
Hey Der John! When you going to invite us up to your place? That back yard view is just great, and I bet the sunrise views are spectacular!
Mark:
Micromark E-mailed me, and my connie JUST got shipped today, and it should arrive within 1-8 days.

Evening Gang: I don't believe this. I posted at 5:45 and it's now 9:15 and no one has been in. Since I walked in the front door I know it's not locked. Where is everyone?
I haven't made E-mail arrangements yet. Mary Ann and I went to supper and then spent the rest of the evening looking for a day old calf. It's mother had hidden it in the pasture and didn't get it when we got the cattle out. Mary Ann finally found it on the second time we searched the pasture. I just have to keep telling myself " Ranchng is fun" repeat often.
No MRRing today just house cleaning and puter work. It took 3 hours to get microsoft SP2 loaded and then loading and setting up the broadband. It is fast. I can now download photos without having to take half a day. Really nice.
Well I guess I'll head out and see what else is going on.
Good Night All
Hi Gang: I just got set up on broadband. Yes it is great. I next have to get my E-mail set up and change out my address. I could stay with PeoplePC but after the way have been I think not.
Philnrunt: Thanks for thinking about me while you were up at the soo. Yes I'm a boatnerd. I was born and raised on the west side of lake Michigan in Milwaukee Wisc. I miss the lakes but I'm married to Texas.
I'm going to cut out and see if I can line up an E-mail account. Take care.
Hello Everybody ...
How about a bowl of burgoo, please. Thanks.
If your interested, I posted in Trains Forum a link to an article about a planned Bering Strait Tunnel. I'm not planning to model such a thing on my layout, however.
Cheers.
Good Afternoon All,
Can't believe it's Weds already. When last I wrote everything was sorta under control. By Monday am, my basement had some water but the shop had water flowing out the front door. One wall is built into an earth bank and the rain (around 8" overnight Sunday) ran down the street, over the curb and flooded through the gap between the floor and wall where the building has settled slightly. 3" of water along the back wall (in the machining and welding area of course) and some under the electric mains and breaker boxes. Fortunately we ceased using the floor outlets some years ago. It's all cleaned up now and seems small potatoes compared to other areas and the tragedy at VT. Just trying to catch up with jobs again Everytime we get close something like this rain seems to happen. Hope the rest of you are well. CUL, J.R.

Good afternoon everyone, still a chilly 39F, cloudy, drizzley day here today, but the good news is that now they say we might see the sun tomorrow!!! One day early!! And, the temps will hit 70F by Sunday and Monday...now watch the grass take off and leaves come out on the trees!
The bad news is, 250,000 people are still without power from this storm, 7 people have died due to the storm, several homes have been claimed by the Atlantic ocean, and many millions of dollars damage to sea walls, homes, roads, bridges etc.
Today, I went to that place that all of you love to visit.......NO not a LHS...the Dentist!! It was supposed to be to removed a partial bridge and install a new one on another tooth that was stronger. However, when the gold cap was removed, the silver filling underneith was loose. So, after removing that old filling, the tooth was now down to near the gum line with only a small post remaining, way to small to hold the bridge. So, now he had to go to the last molar, prepare that to take the end of the bridge, build up the old tooth, make impressions for the new bridge.....and 2 1/2 hours later I am home with a very sore jaw. And don't even ask about the price for this...and on fixed income too.
INDY PHIL: So you say we never warned you about the infamous "Honey Do" jar when in retirement? So....where have you been? Certainly not in the old Coffey Shop or this new Diner, for we have all been anguishing over that jar ...just ask Der John, Luc, Paul, me, etc. Good to have you back.....now all we need to do is get ED to re-appear, I think he hopped a freight out of Mexico City headed for Copper Canyon.
RYAN: Man, with all this rain up and down the coast, how can you possibly have 10% Rh???Is your guage broken?? If your skin is too dry, rub in some olive oil.
COLBY: I know that you feel that vests would be a possible answer, but what we need to do is solve the root cause of the problem. Young people should not have to worry about being killed at school...end of story. Today, too many people are "de-sensitized" by all the violence on TV and especially the video games that glamorize the wrong things in life. Then, back in the late 60 and 70's we had Dr. Spock who had all the answers to raising children...don't slap their butts when they really needed it, it will hurt their character...well...his very own son commited suicide, so much for his expertise right? It comes down to teaching children the three "R", and this time I don't mean Reading, 'Riting, and 'Rithmatic, but rather.. Respect for God, Respect for Others, Respect for Yourself. People no longer know how to respect others, because they live in a world unto themselves, in TV, Video games, PC. They do not meet, talk to each other face to face, interact together anywhere near enough. Volunteering for projects like Habitat for Humanity, or the Peace Corp ( if it is still in existance) is what every single young person should have to join for two years before college....we would soon have a very different generation of young adults. Service to others is the greatest teacher in the world Colby.

Jim,
Thanks for the tips on the rounded corners and the sand paper roof is a great idea too! Always nice to get a few "insider" tips when it comes to building up some models.

Hey, Ryan, take care in building that one - I built it for our club's layout and it is tricky. Rounded corners and bases. Take your time and use several clamps to help hold stuff in place while the glue's drying. It'll look neat with a (sandpaper) 'gravel' roof on the rooftops, and use some of the signs included. But no square corners makes it a bit more difficult than regular, square-cornered bases and wall joints buildings are.
Dan
Good Morning all....Sunny and cooler here today.... I'll have a Cheese Burger basket and a Diet Coke Please..Thank You....Got signs on DPM building this morning and worked on roof alittle more touch up painting and it will be done...
Jim...Thanks for the idea..I think i am going to put a Dinner on my layout..Maybe we should think about franchising it?
Gary....Yes I like DPM stuff I built a bunch in HO when they first came out and have done 3 in N scale with plans to do 3 or 4 more...I don't think you can beat them for detail and easy construction...Painting makes or brakes them I think...
Robert.....Prayers that you get the job....
PC....Building would make a great scratch built...Maybe could use Walthers or DPM moduals?
Well its getting about time for Sallie to get home you all have a good one....Jerry

Sorry but your comment does not make any sense at all . The main point is you should be able to go to school without thinking about something like.
Good day folks!
RT, I agree 200% with what you said. Kids need discipline and to show more respect for themselves and others.
BTW, glad to hear the stress test went well!

Garry, I need to get a decent camera first. My little (inexpensive) 35mm. camera has become unreliable so I'm having to save up for a digital (instead of getting the pics on CDROM, the quality of which is hit-or-miss with my local film developers). But the diner is mostly complete - light grey roof and trim around the windows/doors, grey deck and steps, and I've made styrene walls for interior dividers on one end (for the storeroom and bathroom). Need to build some kind of base for it (probably will have brick or stone foundation). The body is like this, but different colors (see above):
and without the undercarriage and wheels, of course (unlike our diner). So it's only sort of like the Diner here...
Got to go for now - paperw**k awaits (be still, my heart!).
Blessings on your day and your endeavors,
A CHEERFUL GOOD MORNING TO THE DINERS!
Breakfast bar lloks good, jeff.
Thanks to those who explained the back ground about the diner!
Best wishes to everbody!

Just thought I'd swing by and load up a plate from Jeff's breakfast bar! And why not, since I'll be paying for it!
