Thanks, Zoe paid me $30 for mowing

Good evening, stoped in for last coffee before heading off to bed.
DER JOHN: Yes, they did show the bridge. In fact, they showed the workers trying to run down the hill and place wood ties in front of the rear wheels, but the truck just ran right over them. It showed the steep hill, the cross roads, and all the telephone poles being taken out and wires falling to the ground. It also showed the driver taking the crane purposely into the left side of the RR bridge to stop the crane. They also showed how they cut the house in 4's, and the tough time going under the highway bridge that had a clearance of 16'-1" and the loaded truck clearance was 16'-2"....they performed quite a move to get under that bridge. They repeat these programs on the History Channel, try to catch it.
JIM: I have not heard from Lisa in a while, and I don't believe that SUE has either. If she is near the river, her house is in trouble, this was a 100 year storm in her part of NH.

Goodness, Zoe & Chloe, where is everybody - under the tables? It's been way too quiet tonight, and if more don't show up, we'll have to save all that food in the fridge for tomorrow.
Paul, hope things get dried out enough before too long, so you can get that outside work done. Like you said, at least you need it.
So JP, is your New Orleans trip for work, or for yourself this time? After working 12-14 days, the trip will seem like a vacation by comparison. Hope you have a good trip.
Dick, sorry to hear that Lisa's area got soaked so badly (no pun intended). Anyone heard from her?
DerJohn, good that you got your outside stuff mostly done. Best wishes with your blue foam coverup project - almost sounds like a political scandal or something! Oh, on the Woodland Scenics gas station, I've seen the HO scale one, and it's a pretty good one with nice detailing. I think you'll like it - as you said, it'll fit a variety of time periods.
Well, Zoe, almost looks like you and Chloe could draw straws for who gets to stay and cover the rest of the night (once you get the extra food put away in the fridge). Guess the rest are out pre-partying and will be in after a while (filled to the gills, so to speak?).
Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep and all is well with all of you.
Blessings and a Good Night,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Evening Gang:
Der: Nice looking interlocking tower. You did a very good job of getting the dimensions from the photo. That ain't easy as I know too well.
I went out to John's ranch and we got the ties on the first crossing finished. We also hauled some of the gravel needed to build the road up to the crossing. I pooped out at 4pm but John kept working. He's going out again tomorrow but I don't know if I will. He really wore me out today.
JimCG: We are supposed to get some more rain about tuesday and wednesday. I've got things to do in the feilds but they are still to soggy so I'll have to put it off again. We need the rain so I can't complain.
JR: I hope that you have some pneumatic tampers. It's bad enough tamping 7.5 inch gauge. I built a pneumatic tamper for my railroad. It really saves alot of work and does a better job.
Well I'm going to hit the sack. I'll see you all tomorrow.
Good Night All
Good evening Diners! Despite PC’s elegant chili, I’ll have the mushroom omelet please Zoe, but with tomato and ham as well, if that’s not going to cut too deeply into Sue’s mrr cash, thanks.
A sunny day today, and it’s said to be set like this through Sunday. Got some outside chores seen to while Kris took her mom shopping in New Glasgow. They came back earlier than expected, shoot, I hadn’t even finished watching Daily Planet!
Thanks for the encouraging words on the tower and the colour scheme.
By CapeJim…Have you thought about some contrasting color for window and door trim for a little more snap? (Just my preferences showing there...)
Dick:
I was watching the HISTORY CHANNEL tonight, and they were showing three extremely difficult house moves, one of which was in Nova Scotia. A woman wanted to move her very nice old home to a place 20 miles away that had much more land from the city/town location where she presently lived. They had to break the house into 4 pieces to make the move because of overhead wires, etc. During the move, the crane lost it's brakes ( not loaded yet ) and slowly rolled down this street, knocking down telephone poles and the driver finally was able to stop the rig by slamming into a RR overpass. They really had to hustle the move afterwards because a hurricane was coming. I was wondering if you remember this event?
I see from the latest MR e mail that Woodlnd Scenics have an N Scale redibuilt “Filler up and Fixer” country service station. I’ve a place for that, as the style is almost timeless. We have one in Sheet Harbour very much the same, and there used to be one up to last year in Port Dufferin, just down the road. Need to modernize the gas pumps, and change the sign from what looks like Philips to Esso.
Mark:
That stinks. My LHS is VERY local. Its within walking distance,
Derrick: That is one nice transporter. The lights are too ! Is the model plugged in to the road? I’ve been thinking that small audio plugs under buildings, signals and larger vehicles, might be a way to power lights.
all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Evening all -
Sorry I have not been in the 'shop' as of late, but I've been working 12-14hr days since Monday the 7th and today was my 1st day off. I did some errands today, and went to mom and dad's for a nice bbq'd steak dinner w/ Bush's Beans and mom's homemade potato salad...YUM! Tomorrow is clean the apartment day and Sunday is laundry and pack day for my 2-week trip on Monday to New Orleans.
Well all, if I do not stop in before hand, take care and I'll see everyone sometime the week of May 10th.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
Good evening everyone, I hope everyone had a great Friday. I amanged to get 90% of my outside project #1 done today. We have a stepped, three tier garden in the back of the house, and it is right against the hillside behind the family room addition set into this hillside. So..we had too much water collecting in the lower level against the foundation, and that is a recipe for disaster with flooding rains. So I dug a 45 foot trench, starting at the north side, all along the west side, and returning 12 feet along the south side, pitched at 1/4" per 10 feet, and installed 4 surface drains at even intervals to drain all this into the main perimeter pipe. A little sore tonight as the fingers cramp up from having been wrapped around the shovel all day. So, we eat a few bananas for potassium replacement, 4 gator aids and where all set.
JEFF: I saw the website the first time, but I thought it was for something else, so I checked it out..man that is one disaster for people with Diabetes....but does it even look good....I can eat it, but my CH will go through the roof.
SUE: I was just watching the local TV news out of Boston, and Raymond, NH where Lisa lives , has no phones and will not have any for at least 2 weeks. It showed the main Verizon Telephone switch office, and the water came up about 3 feet from floor level into all the electronics. Much of the gear is ruined. Maybe we can get PC to come here with his gang to help out. Raymond was hit real hard, FEMA is there now.
FERGIE: Can you get some photos of those 20 foot + waves breaking over the bow? Or is on-deck restricted because of the rough seas? Can you find out what the scientist are checking data for? I am suspect that they are checking for water temp at various levels, and the salinity at these levels as well. Did you see what I wrote to John in my previous post about the very large house move in Nova Scotia that was on the History Channel last night? Do you remember this incident ?
HOOPLE: No I'm not...don't believe JIM !!
Good Evening, Chloe and Zoe - I see you're both working the party tonight, huh? Is Janie coming by to help, too? Oh here, I brought three dishes full of the stroganoff - I know what chowhounds this crew can be.
Let me look over the table with everything else we have, so I can pace myself. Don't want to eat too much and end up sleeping under the corner booth (like someone did at the last party...).
Hey, Sue, I got a shop to make us up some coffee mugs for the party - take a look! Do you like the white ones:
or the blue ones better?
I think on tonight's weather that they were saying the rain was going to take some time to work its way here - Sunday night at the earliest. So at least, we'll have a good weekend first.

...your MESS(tm), Fergie? I don't envy you the swells, not one bit! Good that your ship is extra-sturdy for sea duty. Take care of yourself (and the locos you're working on), and bring 'em all back in one piece, y'hear?
PC, that chili looks pretty good, except for the peppers. They tend to 'talk back' an hour or two after I've eaten them, and I'm burpin' and tastin' them again.
Derrick, that low boy looks nice - of course that means you can justify a low-boy flat car for it to get to the trucking depot, right? You probably could also get a crane to offload it to the trailer, too.
Hey Trent - what've you been up to lately? How's the party room at work been coming along?
Hoople, hang in there - your loco is coming soon (we hope). And don't believe Dick, he's just foolin' with you...
Chloe, I think I'd better have one of those longer plates, after looking at all the goodies. I'll take a cup of coffee in one of those white mugs, and a glass of Zinfadel, please. Thanks!
I'll take my (first) platter and be chowing down over in the corner booth, if anyone wants to find me. I'm looking forward to some of those ribs, too. Who brought those, or did you gals cook them?
Blessings and a good appetite (and the twins said to stay off the chandalier this time),
Jim, Sorry about the weather. The only rain that we have had would be occasional showers. Today it is in the low 60's, and they are calling for rain showers Saturday and Sunday. Which means that it might rain. I seeded the pasture yesterday so we are probably in for a dry spell.
Derrick, What is on the lowboy? It looks like something for a power plant. Cool photo.
Mark, Where is your LHS? We are always looking for a new find. There are 2 that we have shopped at in Portland.
Well, Larry wants to go for a motorcycle ride before the rain starts this weekend. Later.
Sue

Evening All...Its been a Sunny warm day here....Didn't get much train time in today the Caregiver steam cleaned the carpets....I did dig through a box of stuff I picked up a while back found a Bachman 2-8-2 I didn't remeber I had all the valve gear is gone but put it on the track and it runs!
Der....Thanks for photos the tower looks good...
Fergie....Those 20 foot waves turn me green just thinking about them!....but that sea food casarole sounds good....
Mike ....Is maybe the Rock Home show this week end?
Got some Cards and Cubs games this week end hope they will be on the tube....You all have a good week end.....Jerry
Hi All
I have a second window here so this it for the day.
Dick: My Icebreaking days are over if the powers to be have their way. I'llbe doing Science until further notice and will probably get to exotic places like the Labrador sea and Greenland but no shore leave as such as this is a deep water vessel, which colloects samples 24/7.
Well that's a wrap as time for supper. Seafood casarole tonight! The wind is still blowing 30+ kts. So much for the forecast. 20 kts my ....

Good afternoon...60F and clear skies here today. Plenty to do outside to get ready for planting season and general maintenance on everything from the lawn mowers to the house.
JEFF: Pardonez moi, but I still don't know what that pie is...never heard of it.....sort of like shoo-fly pie in PA Dutch country.
FERGIE: Are you going to be assigned to that ship now for the future tours? Seeing she is not an ice breaker, does that mean you won't be taking any trips to the high Arctic?
HOOPLE: A UPS truck brought a locomotive here today. When I opened it, it was your address from Micro-Mark...so we sent it back after trying it out on the tracks, runs nice....it left on the noon truck today, so maybe DUKE or PC will get it next.
ED...oh ED...are you still out in the Orange Grove.....?????

Another bumpy night as the winds held at 35 kts but we continue on. Don't ever recall having to put up with over a week of NE'rs. Ech! Anyway the winds are down to 30 this morning but I suspect the swell will be here for another day.
Dick: She;ll keep station in winds upto 55 knots. Shell do CTD casts upto 45 knots and from what I've seen she's an excellent sea boat as she has weathered several hurricanes. Like a lot of things "They don't make'm like this no more"!
JR: Loco's on Dramamine? No couldn't see them work to well. Kinda like sugar in the gas tank. I avoid the stuff if I can because it will dope me up and though the fish might get a free meal or two out of me I will get my sea legs eventually.
Well not much else to report as we are making are way towards land but slowly should be in port by Sunday to change out programs and then off into the deep wild blue yet again.

Good Morning, Zoe - and I see Bill's been through and Jeff's in. I'll have some of those eggs like Jeff got, please, but hold the sausage. Thanks, JR!
Supposed to be a nice and sunny weekend here in Cape G. - 70's and sunshine. Then next week we get rain most of the week, they're saying. Sue, you didn't have to send us that Northwest weather, really. I hear you on your LHS's - our one here in town is an arts and crafts supply store, really. They do have some of the Thomas the Train stuff though for starting the young'uns off right, though. Our Hobby Lobby probably has a much MRR stuff as the 'LHS' in town does. But the LHS in the next town (run by a MRR club member) carries track, Kadees, a lot of Athearn and Accurail cars & locs (but more modern mostly, than my layout would use), plus some Walthers structures - and, he'll order stuff in for the club members at a pretty good discount.
DerJohn, you do great work with cardboard (and better than that with styrene)! The color scheme looks good, too. Have you thought about some contrasting color for window and door trim for a little more snap? (Just my preferences showing there...) Funny to picture interns frantically jumping on the levers in a tower. Maybe they needed to eat more like Jeff?
JR, don't overwork yourself with the pick and shovel this weekend. (From a former Navy man - in both senses of the word)
Need to get going - I'm hoping for a calm day that's good for catching up on my paperw**k. Hope everyone else has some nice weather (and maybe even more drying out for our Nor'easterners).

Good night all,
Good Evening All,
Museum Board meeting is finally over - I keep forgetting the tenents underlying navy as in - never again volunteer yourself. At any rate I am now a museum baord member and will do my best.
the reason speaking of naval events tyhat Fergie is heading directly into the bad weather is that six months ago someone in a nice dry non rolling rooom decided that would be th3e course of his cruise. Go figure. (Can you feed a loco dramamine?)
Der - the pics of the layout are looking really spiffy. Nice work and it really seems to be coming together. I am told the summer interns in the interlocking towers used to hang off the levers trying to get them to move far enough in time to avoid disaster. Can't imagine what it must have taken in the winter and explains why many of the northern switches had heaters added.
Should have good enough weather and enough time to do some rail yard work at the museum this weekend - Yeah!!! I'm actually looking forward to chipping paint on the RS-11 though i'm told the track work is a higher priority so it looks like pick and shovel work this Saturday. Beats another day at work anyway. Well time to see the back of my eyelids. CUL,J.R.
