Unfortunately right now all we are picking are bananas, mangos and papayas. The orange harvest season won't start until mid-late October.
But if he's willing to settle for "virtually" fresh oranges, maybe we can work something out. In fact, there´s a car of fruit that went missing a few months back. If your railroad's tracking system can locate it you'd have your car of oranges, but maybe they'd be not so fresh by now.......
Good afternoon evening to all, today was cloudy and drizzly at times, that doggone cut-off LOW pressure system as migrated back towards the coastline and a little more south. I see that the midwest and deep south is suffering because of this block in the atmosphere also, very hot!!!
Today, I had to go to the dentist to get the partial bridge installed.....now I have full choppers on the lower left......it really was tough trying to eat steak. Then we headed to Tucker's Hobbies in Warren, Ma for a great couple of hours with the owner, Robert Buck, and yes I walked away with a few things: Two books, New York Central Pictorial Volume 3, EMD Locomotives by Brian Solomon, 3 Branchline Blueprint series passenger cars...Boston & Albany!!!!! Yes, finally some era passenger cars for the B&A !!! And they are great lookers, these guys did a great job !! And, two smaller items for the layout, Swifts Premium trailer truck, and Sears Delivery truck, both 50's era, 1:87 scale, made by Classic Metal Works.
Then it off to the "hot spot" of New England for RR action, Palmer, Ma and the Steaming Tender restaurant which now resides in the former RR station at the Diamond crossing. As we ate at the window table, two trains came by, one west on east. The east bound train was 100 car carriers long headed for the automobile depot in Brookfield, Ma. Two trains also on the siding line on the Central NE RR. Before you ask, no, I don't have photos, it was showering today as we left so I didn't bring my D70!!!!! Mistake !!!

In the train room today, I weathered some freght cars. Always something to do.

Unfortunately, it's now 9-2. Oh well, you win some, you lose some, but you suit up for them all.
We leave here next Tuesday (most likely) driving up to Houston. Will spend a week with daughter / son-in-law / grandson, then we fly to Nfld on Wednesday the 27th. Fly back to Houston on July 23rd. Then drive back down here.

You've got that right. More than annoying. Although we thankfully had a breeze this afternoon (hot, but moving air). The wife is very happy living here beside the in-laws. So I'm willing to put up with some stuff that's not quite the way I'd like it to keep things happy.

Well I had a nice late afternoon post ready to send out yesterday but as is normal "It hit the fan " and it didn't happen. We lost internet at about 13:00 when the line got cut so we had to go back and fish for it and after about three hours we finally grappled on to it and was able to put a splice in it. it wasn't until after supper we got our TV and abilities back. I think we'll have to use bigger cable next trip as this is happening to much as of late. Unfortunately with the bigger cable it means our range will be shortened as we won't be able keep as much cable on the drum. So next trip we'll only have about 330 mile range. Darn!!!
We also had to get someone home yesterday as there was a critical illness in the family. Got him transfered to one of our SAR cutters late last night so he is well on his way home. We finally got back on station this morning at 06hr.
Jeff: Please take care of yourself as we forget about the ones that can be of good during these difficult times... Ourselves. Mornin' All!
We hit 90 degrees on Wednesday for the second time this season. During a normal summer we usually hit 90 degrees 18 times. Summer doesn't officially begin until June 21st. Again today, temperatures should climb to near 90 this afternoon. Humidity will be in the moderate range.
A weak disturbance will be moving in from Ohio later today and should produce a few spotty thunderstorms this afternoon. A couple of the storms may contain gusty winds and hail especially in the southeastern portion of the state. The movement of the storms will be from the northeast to the southwest. I don't know as we'll see any of this rain though.
A look into the weekend shows a ridge of high pressure continuing to dominate our weather. That means hazy, hot and humid weather will rule with highs near 90 degrees through the weekend. A cold front will approach the Ohio Valley next week and will bring a good threat for showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. We really need the rain.
DROUGHT WATCH, ANY RELIEF IN SIGHT???: Rain has been an endangered species since the month of May. Usually drought refers to a period longer than a month, but May was so much below normal, that it does classify as a short-term drought on the Palmer Index. Here is the latest Drought Assessment. Look at the progression of the drought from the southeast U.S. to here in Indiana! Not good for the farmers!

Sorry, All Gone
Good evening folks: No mrr today as it was entirely taken up by going with Kris to Halifax. She and her co-writer Pat were interviewed in the morning by the CTV local station for their early evening program “Live @ 5”. The TV crew did an excellent job of the interview and the promotion, so that should help sales! Still, a trip like that does eat up the day. Didn’t go to the LHS because there’s nothing I need to buy right now, even with Father’s Day coming up!
BobK: Once more, thanks for the photos of your excellent scenery work, (and the other ones too).
Jeff: Glad your mom is some better. I what Dick(?) said about looking after your health too, for her sake. You are both in my prayers.
Garry: Thanks for the backdrop glue tip. I won’t be using a photo drop, but I do need to fix the coving to the wall, and was thinking of walling mud, to get the seam to blend in. I’ll have to treat the card material with a water-proofer before mudding, or that same wrinkle problem may occur.
Csxguy: I don’t even want to look at your connection speed meter! My connection speed right now is 24, count them 24 kbps!
Jerry:
progress you are making makes me feel bad and want to get my rear in gear...
JP:
So, does anyone think I can use regular glue in place of WS Secnic Cement? Or is there something else I should try?
Alex: Welcome back! Just in time for summer break…is the lad good or what?
RT: I found a stronger bulb for your train room.
<>Fergie: So, everywhere you go you are tied to land by a com. cable? How deep does that have to run not to foul on other vessels? Or am I just not getting it?Anyhow, good to see you have your appetite back!
<>Must go, there’s some e-mail I have to attend to. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Hello, just a quicky as I'm in and out. Visited my mother today, she's doing a little better. Gotta run.
Jeff, we'll take any and all improvement - and keep praying for some more. Plenty more where those came from for your Mom. Give her our hugs, too.
David P., thank you for keeping us posted on Jeff and his mother while he was gone.
RT, good to see your 'mezzanine level' progress - now you just need to complete the run around the room and you can have it running...
You picked a good time to be gone from your house if the power was off, Ed - I'm sure it gets really warm down your way, Si? Thanks for keeping the OJ coming up to us here in the Diner!
Dick, I don't know about the Diner Lawyer (unless you mean Cousin Vinnie...), but I might want to talk with Vinnie about some 'special work' if it comes to that...
Actually, on the legal front, I found out I may be able to get a 30 day extension (continuance?), and in that much time (if I can round up enough funds) I could be able to get the bankruptcy filing started (before the end of the extension?). Boy, it would serve them right if their 'serving' me got things going so they wound up holding an empty bag... (Is that mean? )
So Fergie, are you telling us that your internet connection is on a long extension cord? There might be hope for DerJohn and Luc to get high speed yet! At least, if they don't run over it with the lawn mower...
Colby, good job on the grades, errr... grade! Have fun with your summer. Hoople, I'm sure you're glad summer's here, too! Enjoy, young'uns...
PC, we've had high temps in the low 90's past couple of days, but so far the humidity has been tolerable (around the 40 percent range). However, that's supposed to change over the weekend and the humidity will be climbing. Good weekend to stay inside or go so a movie in a nice air-conditioned theater. Pretty fancy weather maps there, too!
Oh, DerJohn reminded me - Bob K., is your club's downtown area the one featured on the cover of the Kalmbach book about making scenery for cities? Sure looks a lot like it, if it isn't (and that's top notch, by the by).
Tomorrow is FRIDAY!!! (Yippee!) I have some outpatient client appointments, and some time the rest of the day to work on writing up some intake assessments. And of course, the weekend starts tomorrow afternoon once I get off work. This evening I got my haircut after work, so that will be cooler on my neck for this weekend. Have a couple more chapters to read and stuff to get ready for our small group Sat. afternoon, too.
Hope to see about working on the roof for the storage cooler (for the MRR club's diner) this weekend and take it to the club meeting Monday night. We're supposed to have a meeting with a couple of people from the church then, about their offer for us to move to the next building. I'm not really too wild about that, since it'd mean a dues increase (and right now I'm trying to avoid any increased expenses for myself).
Well, time for me to mosey on home for now. Everyone have a good evening - prayers for those in need (most of us).
(Edit:) ...and it looks like I'm covering dessert tonight (and possibly the early breakfast shift), Chloe. Let me know what the damage is in the morning and I'll settle up....
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Since Jim is buying, I'll have the ribs.
Evening Gang: Well the meet got of to a good start today. This is the first offical day but of course some of us have been at it for a week already. There are a good selection of motive power both steam and diesel. Gill Frytag brought his excellent Alco RS-2 up. It's a battery electric and runs and looks great.
I got the gondolas finished and will have them in service tomorrow. One of the guys who we haven't seen in a good long while showed up. He was making frieght cars for sale. John bought 3 the last time he was here. I may get a couple of cars from him. They are all steel and pretty good. The price is not too bad, $200 for a flat car, $300 for a gondola. Those are both standard gauge, less trucks and couplers.
Tomorrow Mary Ann and I are going to Six Flags for the primere of a new show. We have VIP invite and parking.
Well I think it's time for bed.
Good Night All
So I'll finally be able to sit and stay a spell. I guess I'll have a coffee.
Things have quieted down at the homestead now that all the graduations, parties and birthdays are over. Seems like these last few months have been such a whirlwind. Usually I'd be glad for the peace and quiet, but it seems a bit too quiet and almost lonely. The kids are either working or with friends. I still can't get back into the modeling let alone my scenery at the club. I find that your heart needs to be into it for that creative part to come out in the scenery. Just not there yet, still some pretty sad days. I guess it will take quite some time. Didn't even feel like going to the club tonight, decoder clinic. Still have a few that really need some.
It's been so long since I've been able to stay and chat. Let's see what everyones been up to these days.
Jeff: Sorry to hear about your mom, thankfully things are better. I'm thinking of you and as others have said you need to keep yourself healthy.
Sue: You know those "plastic" dounuts are lo cal. Don't taste like much, how 'bout a blueberry muffin. I wouldn't feel too bad about slacking in the fence dept., You've been working real hard at it, you deserve a break.
RT: B&O looks good in any scale, but O shows so much greater detail than the smaller scales, maybe someday when I can't see the HO stuff, O will be the way to go.
Ed: never got to talk to you, I had been following the progress of your layout some time ago. You must be close to completing the scenery by now. I enjoy hearing about the orange industry. Even when I lived in So Cal over 20 years ago, and was surrounded by groves, It never dawned on me how much is involved the industry is. Ahh, that great smell of the blossoms, never can forget it. Have a safe trip to Houston
Philip: You really need to send some of that hot stuff out my way. I can't believe the crazy weather We've been having. The past few days have been downright damp and cold, you'd think it was March all over again. Had to take the work indoors, dodging raindrops got to be too much.
derjohn: Thanks for the compliment on the layout. I can only take partial credit though, it is a product of thousands of hours of hard work from many of the members. The scenery cement is way too $$, I too find that white glue and also matte medium work great.
This past Monday, I met with a writer for a local magazine, they plan to do a story about the club. He happened by at out March show and was quite intrigued with what he saw. Will have to see how it goes, you know how these editors can be about placing a story. It may go hand in hand with the new commuter rail running through the area.
Jim: The city scene isn't in any mag or at least not yet. John, the member who did this spent years of research and building structures to get it where it is now. Of coarse there's always those little details to add everywhere.
Another view, note the use of a mirror up the road.
What is it you do in the medical field?
Dick: I wished I lived closer to Warren and Palmer. I only can get to the Steaming Tender a couple times a year. What a place. Must make for a great day, lunch and Tucker's hobbies.
Have a nice trip to Maine, great country.
Fergie: What's this line? Is it a trailing antenae of some kind? Are you on a Coast Guard Cutter? Haven't quite figured that out from your replies. I used to patrol the ocean, only we did it in P-3s, Should have imposed a 200 mile limit long ago, used to make me sick watching those Russian trawlers "rape" the ocean. We were only interested in the "elint" trawlers, the ones with a mirage of antenas and clean decks. Gee, wonder what they were up too?
So congrats to the younger ones for another sucessful year at school, Have a fun, but safe summer. Just think of all the time to spend on trains now.
And Colby, thanks for the warning.
Paul, You need to watch that sun, It really sneaks up on you. Too bad the gon couldn't be moved to under cover or shade.
John, That WS kit, is that the scenery sampler/ practice stuff?
GARRY, So what have you been up to? It's starting to get late and I think I'm ready to crash. Haven't checked out all the past pages.
To everyone, have a good evening,
