Evening Gnag:
Garry: My condolances to Wes's family and all his friends. Sometimes it happens suddenly and take some getting used to. He sounds like a great guy.
Well I guess I'm in trouble now big time. Since I was born and raised in Milwaukee Wis. I've always been a great fan of the Milwaukee Road and the Chicago North Western. Now I see that Walthers is bringing out the Hiawatha and the Milw Rd depot in Milwaukee. I am so sunk. How am I going to get the Milwaukee depot and it's environs worked into my layout in Upper Michigan? How am I going to explain to Mary Ann that I have to get all this stuff? I'd better get a job to gather some funds. Girls can I wash or clean up for a few bucks?
Mary Ann started to haul hay in from the fields while I cut the grass in the hay lot. When I got finished the hay lot I started cleaning out the creek crossing again. That's the third time this year. I only had to clean it out twice in the last two years. Well we needed the rain.
Jeff I'll send you some rain. What's your address. How about Fed EX collect of course.
Well it's past my bed time.
Good Night All
[Rob, NW GA I see. Not far from Chattanooga, TN by chance? Nice area.]
Chattanooga is just a little over an hours drive from our farm. The Fall here is beautiful and when I finally get to build a layout, I am leaning towards Fall as the time of year to model. Then again, I am an old desert rat at heart from growing up in AZ and track running through expansive desert terrain is very appealing. Then there is WA state that offers gorgeous snow capped mountain scenery with lots of creeks to model (lived there a dozen years). Have even considered a transition layout to cover all terrains, but not so sure how that would look?
Rob
Hello,
Thanks for the kind remarks from several of you to me regarding the death of a friend at church last night. I was still in a bit of a shock last night when I was posting. I recall Wes was at the door as I arrived and his normal handshake and smile. Less than an hour, he passed away.
Rob, NW GA I see. Not far from Chattanooga, TN by chance? Nice area.
I'm nearing the completeion of my kitbashed observation car. I think I'll be pleased with the results.
I'd swap dry air for rain with Jeff if I could. He'll just have to be "ducky", I suppose.
Bye

How about I send you some ducks instead? Better yet, I'll gladly accept any extra rain you wish to send my way. (NW Georgia)

TO GO...Please & thank you! Need a quick pick-me-up.
***Gary, sorry for the loss.
Walked the site with wife today and the new train room can be 20' x 14-16' (will need to talk with our foundation fella, as it is nearing a ravine and some of it is fill dirt). My wife must have mentioned "train room" a half dozen times today...I think she really wants to make sure I am OK with her folks moving in soon. Hay, works for me and it will be a much more practical area than the 9'x42' cave under the porch. Will have questions on widnows and such later.
Off now to get hay for the horses & moos. Have a great day all! -Rob
Good Saturday Morning, all! Janie, those steak 'n' eggs that Jeff is having look good - make me a plate of that, please. Thanks, Garry! Oh yeah, I will have my glass of Ed's OJ, and a TH coffee with that, please.
Garry, sorry to hear about Wes' passing. Will be praying for him and his family. As Fergie said, guys like that usually influence others whose lives they've touched, so it may be that one/some of those persons will decide to continue in Wes' path.
I saw the Zeke thread, too. Not sure if we'll ever know what actually happened.
Haven't heard from OzJim for a bit of a while - maybe he's out driving around in that car he got?
Talked with my friend Linda in Memphis last night. She's been having car troubles (one daughter had an accident, and Linda's car had the battery die - maybe more, she's going by the dealer that her mother used (and bought the car from) today). So the daughter, Linda and her mother are juggling one (sort of) working car. Oh yeah, in a few weeks, her other daughter returns from a semester in Japan, and will need to start working so she will have enough funds for her fall semester at Memphis U. I told Linda "Sounds like your daughters have a problem to solve, huh?" Ah, kids...
Going to be getting hotter here today - already 73 F (23 C) this early, and supposed to reach 90 F (32 C) by this afternoon. Humidity is 81 percent, so I'm hoping that goes down. Could make it more bearable if it does. Ah well, good day to stay inside and work on MRR'ing stuff, right?
Everyone keep yourselves cool today and avoid the outside if it's hot in your neck o'the woods. Or come in the Diner and have a nice cold... beverage of your choice.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Looks like another hot one here so I'd better get on the bike now before the heat hits.
Dick: Lisa's disapointed with the lack of "activity" as the waves are not developing, sick child that she is!
Gary: What can one say... if he was a true mentor as you say he was then people will be able to pick up the ball and continue the good work. Though good people are always a loss when they go. These are never easy times. Actions always speak louder than words.
Anyway it's going to be a busy one

Garry: That is sad... you are in my prayers.
On other news, BLI/PCM now has a forum. That might help promote things a bit.
Hello everyone.
Sad story here. At church meeting this evening a friend felt sick and died a very short time later in the hospital of a heart attack. His name was Wes. Some of you may recall I posted some of his wisdom to a couple of our friends here on the baord who lost loved ones. I told of his advice that we are all children of God, and when God chooses to take on of his children back, surviving families must accept that. His wisdom will be missed by amny people. Prayers to Wes's family this evening.
Please remember none of us knows when his or her number is up. Take care everybody.
Greetings from Pittsburgh,
We had a good ride out today left at 6am and arrived around 2pm no rain until we were unloading. Found out we have 42 cars in our race group alone so I have my workcut out for me if I'm to repeat last year. Also have the camcorder hooked up on the roll hoop again so maybe some video will result.
Came out route 80 to 28 south in Pa. but noticed a bunch more trackage (not used much though - not a single train all day). A couple of the steel trestles are impressive - exactly like the ME kits discussed yesterday. One in particular just south of i think Brookville is curved about 20 degrees over its' length. I may have to come back with a still camera to shoot some of these sights as I'm not sure how long this inactive track will stay intact.
The outskirts of Pittsburgh are interesting as well with all the rivers and bridges interspersed with major industries.
Time to duck out for some dinner, but I'll keep y'all updated. CUL, J.R.
Evening Gang: We got the container moved into it's final place. I pushed it sideways with the 25 horse tractor loader. When we had it in place I got the level to see how much leveling we'de have to do. Would you believe it was dead on both ways? Well believe it. Now we have to gather the shelving and Mary Ann can get it cleaned and painted before we install it.
Ryan: It's Mary Ann's container so I won't be storing anything in it. Of course some stuff in the basement will be going in it so I may end up with more space for the layout. Next month Mary Ann said I can get one for my 7 1/2 inch gauge equipment. That stuff won't know what happened since it's been out side under tarps for the last 35 years.
Well I'm going to head out and get somethings done.
A quick "coffee to go" please, need to get some work done. Thanks!
A bit of bitter/sweet but overall good news here. My father-in-law's rehab time following a stroke about 3 months ago is coming to a close in another month. Both he and mother-in-law will likely be moving out here with us on the ol' farm. How can this be good news you might ask? Well, with their minimal resources and some help from a sister-in-law, we can add on another wing to our new house. So, instead of the place under the porch I had planned on using for my train room (see pic below), I will end up with a larger room on the otherside of the house (under the new addition) and have concrete already poured. Below is a photo of the current new house, so just picture another structure on the other side that is 1 1/2 times the size of the exsisting porch/train room. Inlaw suit upstairs, Rob's train room below. (Old photo, I finished all that siding months ago.) There is hope for building a layout yet. Rob

I'm hoping to figure out how to show off some video of the occasion. I've made video and posted it before (on prototype stuff), but the quality is very low. I think I have a way to fix that though and this is the perfect excuse to test out my theories, ya know?
Hope your project comes out well. Sounds like it's time for a mad scenery party before that bridge gets held up!
just read this and I'm hoping this is wrong but be warned

Anyway sorry if I've upset anyone but I'd hate to see anyone else get "taken" if this be the case.
Not much on the go as Dick has posted Dad is back in the hospital and will undergo surgery Sunday to repair a massive hernia, which had caused a partial bowel obstruction last week.
Rained yesterday so I did another Tsunami intall.
I'll try to get photos posted
Ryan, Thanks. That bridge is my baby. I dried the logs for several years from trees on the place. Do you know how hard it is to find two sticks that are similar is diameter and stay straight in the drying process. I wanted the rails to center on each log. I'll bet that I dried close to 50 to find a couple that were similar. It looks so rickety that I worried about dumping a loco at first, but no problems.
I try to use all the flowers, bushes that I can find outside. I use a preservative that is similar to Matte Medium. The hard part is to store them without breaking them. I rigged some clothesline under the 5 ft pennisula and hang them with clothespins upside down while they dry or until I get to them. I ran out this last year and started making aggro trees for variety.
Well, I guess that I got a bit windy. Later,

Good morning everyone.
TH coffee, please. Grape nuts cereal with blueberries (If Ryan didn't take all the bluberries, too please.
I just posted on the Thomas and Friends recall thread. The news two days ago was that China executed the top food & drug guy. China said he was responsible for lead paint on Thomas toys as well as many other tainted exports.
My Burlington observation car project is a time consumer. I hope to do more later today.
Weather is nice now, and I have outside stuff to do. I need to get it done before the next big heat wave gets here. Weather forecasters are saying a huge nationwide heat wave is on its way.
Happy Model Railroading.
Mornin' folks!
I'll have some fiber cereal and blueberries this morning, Chloe! Thanks!
Oh, and some of Ed's OJ!
Kinda cool this mornin', but I broke a sweat in the back shed sorting out all the camping gear. Going to Falls Lake this weekend for a short overnighter and taking the telescope and see if we can see some stars and planets away from the city lights.
Sue, I like, I like! Those trees and such look quite realistic on your layout! And that log bridge is not your run of the mill kit either is it!
Dick, have a great time at the convention in Maine! Sounds like a fun event, remember to bring us back plenty of pics too!
Paul, so what are you going to store in the new container now that you got in place?
How's your head PC? Ooh heck, here comes Chloe....shhhh!
Well, gotta go for now!
Thoughts and prayers to all souls in need and health!

Morning All!
And a fine morning it is too! Looks real nice out there.
Got some more wiring on the layout done last night. Still got tons to do though. I'm hoping to get a train running by the end of the weekend though, but we'll see. That was last weekends goal too, and we see were that got me!

Sounds like a great breakfast, if there would be plenty left.
Rain showers went through last night about 11:00. I was out checking on hay. The people that I get hay and my herefords got their hay under cover. The rain was only spotty and might have even missed them.
Larry should be home late this morning and wants to head to town to bowl. Fridays are $1.00 days.
I am still working on my loading chute for the layout so I will probably cut a few fence posts. My sketch took longer that I had thought.
I'll be back after I take Pearl for her walk.
