 Good evening.

Any blueberry pie available? Whipped cream, too?

Ryan... I meant to say earlier I appreciated your comments to me regarding Chinese stuff, my new observation, and Wes. I really like the roundhouse.  I've some of those sudam kits in my supply for yet-to-be-built layout sections.  So thanks for inspiration.

RT .... glad the move to TN is progressing. I think you said you were headed for eastern TN.  Nice area.

Dick... really interesting write-up about your New Hampshire trip.

Hoople.... where in ohio and in florida are you visiting? Relatives there?

Paul.... don't over tire yourself. Take it easy with all that outside work.

Gus (ICRR Gus) was over this afternoon. He's completing a grain elevator for his layout.

We're leaving for Ohio and Michigan Saturday.  Time the Mi trip for NMRA convention, but won't do much of that because of NMRA's excessive prices.

Duke.. you still there? Still thinking of train show there? Anybody else?

Happy Model Railroading

Evening Gang: Today I did lamost nothing. I just felt worn out. I really felt guilty. I did help the boys with the pump house a bit. O f course I took them and Mary Ann out for lunch. What else are dads for? Tomorrow John and I are driving to Oaklahoma City to pick up rail for his railroad out at his ranch. It's a long drive but saves over $200 shipping. That's 175 feet of rail.

Dick: Fergie didn't do the nail gun thing I did about 5 years ago. Fergie cut himself real bad with a stone chip. Sailors are dangerous on shore.

It's kind of early for this but I think I'm going to hit the sack. John is coming by early and we will head out.

Good evening .......we had a great time up in New Hampshire's White Mountains, railfanning with Mass Bay RR group. I chased the 0-6-0 steamer from North Conway all the way through Crawford Notch and took both videos and photo shots. They used their new U23B trailing the 0-6-0 by 2 miles in case it was needed, and they used the U23B hooked to the rear on the way back down the grade to make use of it's Dynamic brakes. I will post pics as soon as I get caught up around here.

On the drive through Crawford Notch to the Cog RR Sunday, at 7 in the morning, 2 deer tried to cross the road in front of us, then I mile further, a cow Moose was feeding right along the roadside 3 feet from the car. 5 miles later, a bull Moose was on the other side of the road feeding, he looked up at us and just kept eating.

We went up the Cog Railroad to the top of Mt Washington, 6288 feet. It took 1:20 hrs. to climb, took on water at the halfway point, and it was chilly and in the fog at the top when we arrived. When we left 20 minutes later, it had started to downpour with driving winds and ice pellets hitting us. Did you ever see 72 passengers trying to board a single entrance RR car in these conditions? My pants were soaked, but after the 1:20hr. ride back down, I had dryed sufficiently, but the Lorraine had to go change her cloths.

We then had a great tour through the Cog RR maintenance area. We got to see the project they were working on with a nice explanation by their chief ME. John Deere has donated a 600HP Diesel engine, and they are building a diesel cog engine, disc brakes, hydraulics, etc., all part of going "green" on the mountain. I have pics of this also.

The drive back home on Sunday afternoon was the worst that I ever experienced, Summer or Winter, in the past 23 years travelling to/from the White Mountains. Things went Ok until we got 15 miles north of Concord, NH, then the traffic stopped and it was stop n Go for the next 25 miles. We hit four (4) thunderstorms on the way home from Concord south to home. Downpours so hard the wipers could not keep up, winds , lightening everywhere, ice pellets at times. It was interstate travel at it's worse!!! The trip normally takes me 3 hours door to door, Sunday it took us 5 1/2 hours. I just kept my hazard flashers ON during each storm we hit.

I read that Fergie hurt himself with a nail gun??? What is all that about?

RT: I wrote to Bergie before I left last Friday, but never received an answer. I was having a lot of trouble that week with ootgoing mail server via my ISP, so maybe Bergie never got the info. In anycase, in scanning the past emails here in the CS, I read something about this Zeke thing being a big scam??? What is all that about???

FERGIE: So Lisa wants some Tropics action? Tell her to wait until September, we are still locked in a Spring weather pattern.

RYAN: I was not in Maine for a convention, that was Colby I think. Read my info above, I was in NH.

MIKE: When I got outside Monday after getting back home, the garden was like a tropical jungle. The zucchini squash plants are waist high and we have squash coming out our ears. Cabbage, Lettuce, Beans, Cukes, Beets, Spinach, Summer Squash, Cauliflower, Peppers are in abundance.......I think someone dumped CS on my garden while I was gone , LOL

LUC: Sure is good to see Gloria smiling and looking healthy again.

PC: You sure have been busy!!!! If you were my age, I would have said you were taking Geritol !! LOL  Your benchwork looks excellent!!!

Oh, and I'll have the boneless skinless BBQ chicken *** meal please Chloe!  Yeah, Ryan's buying!

Wow, I did not realize that those kits have been around for that long. My Swift kit is still half built too, at the time I was just getting started and it was way over my head. Maybe I'll finally get around to finishing it someday!

Morning all!

Just getting ready to go to Ohio, then Florida.

Besides that, nothing real new.

Sue: Is it raining down there? It is here... Just like October. Well at least it's better than 80-90 degrees out...

Jim: I bet I wouldn't... Right now I'm happy. It's cool, and rainy.

Well I better get going...

Good day folks!

Looks like lunch time is just around the corner here, so I will have the Hamburger Steak Special with mushrooms and gravy and fries on the side. Oh, and a root beer float too!

Thanks Chloe, and put it on Sue's tab today!

Thanks Sue!

We finally got some rain, and it lasted for a few hours too! Much needed around these parts!

Jerry, yes that is one of those solder kits from the 1970's. It has held up for over 30+ years with only a few minor fixes, such as a window pane here and a ladder there. This was a Suydam model kit and I understand that they are now under the name of Alpine Division Scale Models. This is a link to their product line offered through Walthers: http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?manu=700&split=120 I also have the Black Bart Mine Shaft kit and the Swift Meat packer plant kit.

Sue, maybe you could offer that ride up for a fee, some kids would pay for that! Sew until mid-night eh! Have fun! Oh, and you are correct, the current work is on the inspection pits that will go into the roundhouse foundation.

J.R., "Worked at the museum on the iNpossible scale display again." What's iNpossible about that? Whistling [:-^]

Jim, Sue is right, please re-read my previous post on page 250!

I had that problem too.  I found that if I used the smallest pixel setting my camera can do, and kept the video short, it was OK but not great.  Photobucket has a 100MB limit on video's, and if you try to exceed that the quality drops off fast.  As to how to post it, if you want to post a link as a word like this, you type (without the spaces) [ url=and then the url link ]the words you want [/url].

Jim. Cape.  ........ Yes, it's already hot here too. I'll be off to Hopkinsville for much of the day, but will be in the layout room late in afternoon. No outside work planned today.

Any NP fans out there?  (As if I did not know.) Here are some of my NP cars.  The dome is a ConCor with Brass Car Sides installed.  The GP9 is an Athearn with details applied and painted to match photos of prototype. Both NP and Gn run through on my CB&Q themed layout. NP locos include 3 steam and several diesels.

Good morning. I only have time for coffee before heading to work.

JR,  Climbing tonight, Mountaineer picnic tomorrow evening, and Sew thing on Friday.  Larry was afraid that I was obsessing over layout time.

Jim,  I miss read Ryans post.  I thought for some reason that he was referring to pit in the RH rather that the TT.

Have a nice breakfast guys.

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, since Sue's buying, I'll have glass of Ed's famous OJ, cup of coffee, a couple of waffles, with that bacon look-alike stuff that's supposed to be healthier for me (right?).  Thanks!

Just a quick stop for breakfast and then on my way to that 'W' stuff that Paul seems to be doing as much now as before he 'retarded.' Wink [;)]

OzJames, bet it's more fun to have WiFi in your room (especially if you're not wild about whatever somebody else is watching on the TV). It does sound like you've been busy with your layout. Thumbs Up [tup] Hope the rest of your track gets in before too much longer.

Sue, if you can get the bridge track out of your turntable's pit, fixing the pit color shouldn't be terribly hard to do. Just may need a lot of masking off surrounding areas (unless the pit itself can be removed). But even in (basic? Wink [;)]) black that turntable looks quite nice.

Well, for now I'd better get back to finishing up breakfast. It's supposed to be stinking hot here today - mid 90's air temp, and heat index around 100...Shock [:O] Hoople, I seriously doubt that you would like this weather here. Whew! Good thing I'm seeing outpatient clients instead of handling walk-in and crisis today. (Yesterday was something else in crisis, but that's another overly long story)

Keep yourselves cool (indoors?), and remember to keep your outdoor pets' water dishes full and if possible, have a place with some shade for them. Not a fit day out today for man or beast, sounds like. Think cool.... Cool [8D]

Blessings and cooler breezes for your day,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Morning all!

Hey Sue, I meant to tell ya, thanks for the eye opening ride the other morning.  Haven't heard the sound of second in a while (or first for that matter).  Sold my last "toy" a while ago and funds haven't been available to get another.

Spent the evening on the layout last night putting up supports for the backdrop.  Took most of the evening, but they're all in.  I'll have some pics later if you're interested.  Hopefully I can get the backdrop in tonight......if I can enlist the help of my son.

Oh, and James.....Thanks, it's good to have SOMETHING.....ANYTHING, working finally!

Oh hi Zoe!  I'll have the eggs benedict this morning....thanks!  Yeah, Sue's buying!  (I wonder if Larry knows she's sporting all this cash yet?)

JimCG- I’ve been reading, just no time to post! But I’ve now got wireless internet in my bedroom, so I’m sitting on my bed with laptop in hand posting! My other time is spent between driving/working and working on the railroad Wink [;)]

Luct- Nice pictures from the party a few pages back.

PC – Nice video, good to see It up and running!

Garry – Nice pics, looks really nice.

Nothing new for me, Just waiting on some more track from my LHS… It’s the only downside of using Tillig, no one uses it! Other than that, My track work is almost complete! If I get time I’ll post a picture or two. I’ve got to wire it up and it should be sweet, I’m still 50/50 on the DC or DCC thing… the NCE system is attractive but I’ve already got three DC controllers…

Good Morning All,

Humid and raining this morning but I hope that means the weather will break the heat a bit. Honestly it's not been bad at all the last week. I'll just have a regular today please Zoe.

Sue - sew til midnight? Wild and crazy but at least Larry will know you're not out cruising around for trainsSmile [:)]. It's be tough for me as I can only stich by hand.

Jeff - good deal with the GP38-2. Nice looking locos. Are you repainting for KCS or will it stay as delivered?

Worked at the museum on the iNpossible scale display again. Fixed a couple of bad joins in the rail and smoothed out some others with a jewelers file. We can now run more than the loco by itself and we built up a passenger consist with 6 presentable cars with metal wheels but the old style (Rapido?) truck mounted couplers. Can't get the RS-2 with new style couplers to pull more than 2 cars yet - keeps derailing. Need to spiffy things up as the N scale convention has us slated for a visit in August.

Also hope to get out to the yard this weekend and get some pics of the work pit. Interestingly the sidess of the pit have wooden beams parrallel to the track and not stubby ties as shown in the pics above. Hope the pics I get this weekend will help.

Well time to pick up tools - have a set of tires to mount and balance, then back into the unit room to build gearboxes. Hope you all have a goodun'    CUL,J.R.

Looks like I did get the tab for this one.  As usual, Jeff always picks the fanciest meal on the menu.

Larry just headed south for another lap.  I probably won't get back to the stockyard until Friday.  Tonight, I will get ready for my sew until midnight bash on Friday evening.  A bunch of us take our sewing machines down to a local dealer.  She buys dinner, and we sew until midnight.  Last time I only made it until 11:00.  It is like an operating session with our layouts.

Evening Gang:

Sue it looks like you're buying. I'll have a slice of the sugar free apple pie and a couple of scoops of the sugar free vinella ice cream. Oh, and a cup of coffee.

Not much today except working. I swear that I got more done on the MRR when I was working. We did get the steel shelveing hauled up to the container. Now it all has to be cleaned, sanded, primed, and painted. I'm going to use 2x2s for the legs instead of the metal legs. I don't have enough of the metal ones and the wood is cheaper.

I spent the evening trimming brush down at the UPRR crossing. The hard part is cutting the stuff. Gathering the cuttings up is easy with the tractor. Still it's alot of work. I've got almost a mile of UP running through us and at least 3/4s of that needs trimming. Oh well, it will keep me out of the bars and not so LHS's.

Sue, sounds like you put a lot into that bridge. Nature has a way of making everything unique don't it, especially when it comes to modeling in small scale. Thanks for the descriptions on the flowers and bushes too! Now I need to start collecting various plant materials in my yard! BTW, the video works, but that was one bumpy ride huh!

Glad you liked the hotrod.  There was a loose nut behind the wheel.  The seat has the old springs so I was not much steadier.  I was wondering if hot rod enthusiasts would like the sound on the video.  That was my first video.  Way too many digits to do very often.

Thanks for sharing photos.

Sue

I got a GP38-2 in the mail today from a friend in Oklahoma. It's used but servicable. I'm going to tear it down and give it a good cleaning and lube. It tends to chirp a little going forward but is silent running backward. It has a few little issues with broken details but I don't mind that. It's a GP38-2 UP #2027, item 30790, limited edition. It didn't cost me anything. He gave it to me, even paid postage.

The ct scan went well this morning, though the iodine solution made me dizzy and I almost passed out. Guess I'm a little allergic to it. After that I went to the shop and worked until noon then came home. The shop boss wants me to come back in tomorrow. I told him that depends on how I feel when I get up in the morning. If I don't feel up to it, I'm not going to work. He knows I don't take my health and safety lightly and that I don't take off sick for no reason.

The Trackside Weekly was also there to witness the event. Though lacking saficent landscaping and rolling stock, the load engine was quite the sight to see rolling through a blue desert of foam.

Several hundred cars are still boxed up in storage.  As to the scenery........Maine does have a blue desert, doesn't it? Big Smile [:D]
