UFO's
Posted by krump on Thursday, September 25, 2003 3:23 AM
I'm curious as to how many of the UFO vehicles have been sold / placed into the scenery on a model railroad. ???[8D]
-see Walthers (HO) 2003 reference book, pg 769 -BUSCH's UFO Flying Saucer # 189-1010. (price unknown?)
how long has that item been available? and how are hobbyists incorporating it into the model railroad...? the intrigue foor me is that it is an attention getter. have any clubs used it? is it a popular item?
cheers

cheers, krump

Uh, sorry, no X-file activity occurring on my layout (except for the occasional giant spider that freaks the engineers out).

That kits been out 10 years or more. I have had it on my layout 2 years or more. See www.trainweb.org/zmtshortline/zmt33.html if you want to see my painted model. It has working lights but the aliens that came with it were lame so I used aliens from a bubble gum machine. Interesting enough, not many people seem to make any comments on it. Most seem to just accept it. FRED

I had been thinking about what to do with some of the old models I had built when I was younger, and this is the perfect idea! I still have 2 or 3 of the Star Wars snow walker models that I built back in the 80's. Maybe when I get my layout built I will incorporate them as an alien invasion force! Get a couple of the flying saucers and....

I've been wanting to model the parking lot at "Milliway's, the Restaurant at the End Of The Universe" but have never been able to figure out how to work it into a layout. I think it would work best on a N modular sysytem

I don't know about anyone else, but I've had some rather bizarre experiences in the past , after I purchased two of the UFO's. Shhhhh, they may hear us talking about them. One night after I had placed them on my layout, I heard some strange noises coming from the basement. Upon investigating, I saw these two little characters, dressed in space suits, walking around the layout. They were turning over rocks and leaves and so forth, when suddenly one of them turned to the other and asked, "hey duuuuuude, what arrrre we lookin for?" The other one turned and said, in a very calm voice, " little bitty women". So began the nightly activities of these two. Their activities ranged from raiding the fridge after midnite to trying to abduct our Miniature French Poodle. Thank God our poodle learned to bark in English shortly after we brought her back from France, where we adopted her. I often wonder what bizarre experiments they wanted to run on her. Those two are real sickos. Anyway this went on for the better part of a month, and then those two crazy little farts really did it. One night after the whole family went to bed, I heard the garage door open up and the car start. Out they went, snockered to the gills, for a big night on down on the strip. They terrorized half the town, with their wild driving and boozing, before returning around 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning, with a couple of really tiny girls. We heard giggling and some of the most bizarre noises , to date, that night. Those two carried on with the girls till around 6am, before passing out from the booze. When I went down in the basement that morning, I was greeted with a real mess. Beer bottles, an empty little bottle of very good scotch, and something that looked like a small edition of a porn centerfold. I didn't see the girls but those two were stretched out on the park benches in the middle of my HO town, with out so much as a stitch of clothing on. Your imagination could run wild, trying to figure out, what all those two had done that night. I don't even want to know. Anyway, I waited until they had awakend and gone back inside the UFO's, before removing them from the layout. I quickly took them back to the hobby shop where I had bought them, and tried to return them but the store owner didn't want them back. He even tried to pay me to keep them. Hmmmmm, what does he know that I don't? Anyway after much bickering, he finally did take them back, but promptly sold them to someone else who was absolutely fascinated with them. I saw that customer about a week later, and he looked like he had been thru a meat grinder. I was sure I knew why. [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

I can't stress this enough - I would always advise against using pre-designed kits whenever possible. Personally I build everything I use out of polystyrene and general artists's materials, creating textures and colours using my naked eye and interesting materials!

I actually build a UFO of my own on one of my four sets (they are interconnected by switches, so they're complete circuits on their own), I actually built several of them, as it's a recreation of Welles' classic the War of the Worlds. My primary ingredients for them were styrofoam egg cups, cut appropriately and assembled around a very basic balsawood frame , then epoxied and puttied and painted silver. If I do say so myself, they look quite convincing.

Rember there can be no accurate model of an alian because we are invisible and no one can see us. Bleep Bleep

There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

Sounds like a good excuse to have military vehicles and personnel in a semi-circle around the grounded craft, maybe with a "Klaatu" (that's the name, right?) standing near the UFO.

Now that I think about it, you can do all sorts of things for RR in the past, but I don't recall seeing one item (besides a UFO) to represent a futuristic layout. But then I guess it would be hard to do flying trains. :) Any chance we'll be able to "mag-lev" a layout?

I've seen a HO-scale monorail in a local model store, I think it's made by Revell, but I'm pretty sure it's unpowered and doesn't come with much more track than that needed to display it.

Attention Earthlings,We have been on this planet and have copied this hobby you call model railroading..Now our wives(yes we have more then one) roll their eyes when we shuffle off to the train building..While we do not have crashed "UFOs"-what ever that means, some guys have crash Earthling haulers you call jet air liners on their layouts.
Now for Earthlings you sure found a great hobby..Better get back in to my ship and leave before those pesty Men in Black gets here.
