I think you are safe with a TARDIS - I didn't know what that was so I did a web search just now. The TARDIS (but NOT Turdis) seems appropriate for UFO stuff. Now that you've mentioned it, wherever did you locate a TARDIS - I think I'd like one?, and how can you tell scale? must be all relative. Thanks. made my day.

A new thought occurred to me the other night ( occasionally happens...)

If Aliens with UFO's would build a railroad - what would it look like? - me thinks that it would probably be similar in description to a roller-coaster. from there I drew up a whole new section of my layout to incorporate the idea of the alien-rail possibly modelling that in a different scale, perhaps using pipe cleaners as the "rail" - an Alien Railway would likely not be too concerned about smooth operation of train to rail, so the pipe cleaaner rail bed would prrobably be fairly accurate. now... if only flex track bent the OTHER way (up/ down)
besides, it's my railroad representation and who knows if I'm right or wrong. (gets into kind of a trains- planes- automobiles thing ???)
... just a thought.

Shhh.. Don't tell that to the multi-billion dollar con-artist industry of UFO conventions.

Being a space-combat-miniatures-gaming guy, I have lots of small pewter space ships (i.e., from Star Trek, Star Wars); but alas, none are flying saucers (unless I dismantle an Federation-Enterprise-looking ship). I've asked before, and I still wonder, if anyone has done a futuristic, i.e., mag-lev, style layout. Maybe a lunar rail (the terrain would be easy)?.

First of all, FRED, great UFO pix.

emeraldisle - Aug 1978 MR for the lunar railroad. I think that it was based on slot car technology, but will have to dig the article out and look at it again. I definately remember the whole thing looking very seventyish.

Humor in railroading is alive and well, it seems. Modular railroading seems well-suited to this kind of wackiness--at a train show earlier this year, I noted a module (part of a local module club) that featured a V-2 launch site as part of the display! It seems worthwhile to put in a few out-of-place things on a layout just to make sure people are awake, whether based on fantasy, reality or a blend thereof. If you're adapting from a prototype it can be worthwhile to look into local legends and history to find weird details you can throw in...
