MrB,  My nephew plays hockey.  He has played since he was small.  They live in Idaho and have great winter sports.  How often do you play?

Sounds like you made a haul at the show.

Where in Colorado are you going?  It's a great place, but sorry, the Broncos won't get by the Pats again if they meet in the playoffs.

D'oh!  Top of the page again.  Set 'em up, Joe.

Mike: I've been around, I've just been really busy lately. I have my own forum to run plus a job that keeps me occupied. Usually by the time I get home, I'm really worn out.

Morning, all.  I think I'll ease into Friday with some eggs 'n' bacon, Joe.

Sue, I've been playing hockey every Tuesday night for the last 30 years.  I was one of the young kids when I started, but now I'm the old man of the bunch.  I'm a goalie.  We play all year long.  We did take one summer off when the rink got closed because the world was "short" on oil one year back in the 70's, but other than that it's been a straight run.  When I tore my rotator cuff skiing about 10 years ago, I was out for 10 months.  One of the orthopedic surgeons that fixed it was a hockey player, and the night I came back he came out to shoot at that shoulder.  He'd done a good job, and I could tell he was frustrated because he couldn't beat me.  So, he started shooting at my legs which had gotten flabby during the layoff.  Best example of medical follow-up I've ever seen.

I only had a small haul at the train show.  I've learned my lesson.  I've still got stuff in boxes that I bought at shows 2 years ago, before I knew what I wanted, and long before I was ready for it.  A little old caboose, a pink Cadillac (father-in-law was Chief Engineer for Cadillac for a while) and a few doors and windows for scratch-builds.

Jeff, let us know how Darkwing Duck is doing, in case you hear from him before the rest of us.  And it's a lot better to be busy than not to have enough to do.

A brewski or twoski for me-ski and you-ski, OK?  (Yeah, the ski areas around here just opened today.)  Snow flurries, and a blast of cold morning air to breathe.  Ah, winter in New England.  Now the Patriots can start stepping over their frozen opponents.

Mike, you need more junk cars around that building.  Nice job, by the way.  I saw it on the other post about buildings first? or turf first? and I didn't recognize it.  Somebody suggested taking a corrugated section of styrene or whatever and rubbing tin-foil over it to get the ribbed pattern, and then using that for another roof.  Haven't tried it myself.

J. Edgar, any relation to G-man Hoover?  Herbert Hoover?  How about the vacuum cleaner folks?  Welcome aboard, anyway.  Beer's always cold, and Joe has everything back there, bottles or tap, from whatever era your railroad is in.  I had a Knickerbocker from the 1960's last week, and right now it's Rhinegold, the dry beer.  (Think of Rhinegold whenever you buy beer.)

Man, I'm glad for this place tonight.  Mother-daughter pot-luck, 15-year-olds and their moms.  Estrogen level is almost up to the landing, and I may have to swim for it.

So, how many of us use friends and family members as the proprietors of our businesses, or names for our landmarks?  My two big subway stations at Penny Lane and St. Anne Street are named for the wife and daughter.

The teenagers are all asking for their own businesses, after I put in Katie's School of Dance and Max's School of Rock.  (Poor forum member Dave Kelly.  His law firm has to share the second floor of the House of Haggis Restaurant with those two.)  I've got outstanding requests for Suzanne's House of Beef and Natalia's House of Crack.  Not sure about that last one, but it may get a back alley somewhere with some disreputable characters around the door.  (Anyone of you feel like posing?)  Fortune teller Madame Adrienne will complete the ensemble.

Joe, another Rheingold, if you would?  Thanks.

Again?  I'm at the top again?  Well, set up up, and put away a Dr Pepper for Trainmaster.  Yeah, ship it General Delivery to Aurora, Colorado.  It'll get there by Christmas NewYears Martin Luther King Day Lincoln's Birthday, I think.

Low 20s this morning, flurries, occasional blowing snow, but no significant accumulation, as they say.  I like the clean, cool air down in my lungs, though.  If Jeff is getting 20's, though, we're likely to be in the single digits in a day or two here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I got to be Santa tonight.  I had to put on the silly red suit, black boots, beard and fur hat.  The irony is that the youngest children are 15, but it was all in good fun and when was the last time I got so many cute girls to sit on my lap?

How about a hot chocolate for the fat guy in the red suit, Joe.  Toss in a bit of brandy.  Mmmmm....

This was sent to me by a friend of mine.

 Am I A Fireman Yet??

In Phoenix ,Arizona , a 26-year-old mother stared down at her 6 year old son, who was dying of terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled with sadness, she also had a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent, she wanted her son to grow up & fulfill all his dreams. Now that was no longer possible. The leukemia would see to that. But she still wanted her son's dream to come true. She took her son's hand and asked, "Billy, did you ever think about what you wanted to be once you grew up? Did you ever dream and wish what you would do with
your life?" Mommy, "I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up." Mom smiled back and said, "Let's see if we can make your wish come true." Later that day she went to her local fire
department in Phoenix, Arizona , where she met Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix. She explained her son's final wish and asked if it might be possible to give her 6 year old son a ride around the block on a fire engine. Fireman Bob said, "Look, we can do better than that. If you'll have your son ready at seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an honorary
Fireman for the whole day. We can come down to the fire station, eat with us, go out on all the fire calls, the whole nine yards! And if you'll give us his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform for him, with a real fire hat - not a toy -- One-with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots. They're all manufactured right here in Phoenix , so we can get them fast."

Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy, dressed him in his uniform and escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting
hook and ladder truck.

Billy got to sit on the back of the truck and help steer it back to the fire station. He was in heaven. There were three fire calls in Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all three calls. He rode in the different fire engines, the Paramedic's van, and even the fire chief's car. He was also videotaped for the local news program. Having his dream come true, with all the Love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply touched Billy, that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought possible. One night all of his vital signs began to drop dramatically and the head nurse, who believed in the hospice concept - that no one should die alone, began to call the family
members to the hospital.

Then she remembered the day Billy had spent as a Fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and asked if it would be possible to send a fireman in uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition. The chief replied, "We can do better than that.
We'll be there in five minutes. Will you please do me a favor? When you hear the sirens screaming and see the lights flashing, will you announce over the PA system, that there is not a fire? It's the department coming to see one of its finest members one more time. And will you open the window to his room? About five minutes later a hook and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to Billy's third floor open window--------16 fire-fighters climbed up the ladder into Billy's room. With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they LOVED him. With his dying breath, Billy looked up at the fire chief and said, "Chief, am I really a fireman now?" "Billy, you are, and the Head Chief, Jesus, is holding your hand," the chief said. With those words, Billy smiled and said, "I know, He's been holding my hand all day, and the angels have been singing.. "He closed his eyes one last time.

I'll have a nice snifter of your best brandy tonight Joe. NO, NO not my normal "Old Tennis Shoe" brand....that 12 year old stuff up on the top shelf, ya, that VSOP stuff! And set the house with their needs too...It's been a wonderful day and so I'll share the joy with offering the poison of your choice!

I have many a buildings, business, companies on the CCRY named after friends & realatives! As a matter of fact, I think there is only one, so far, that isn't. BTE, Nice pics you guys! Oh.....to be modeling. Guess I'll have to be content with only getting the side skirting on that turntabe bridge, as I haven't gotten anything else done out in the Trainroom since accomplishing that task.

I do however, have one performance of the Nutcracker in the books! Opening night went VERY well and it goes with out saying; my princess danced awsome! I did OK too, but she's the star. One down and two to go...Then I can get back to the railroad.

Mike, sorry about the job man. But as you say, it just wasn't in the plan...yet. And BTW, another congrats is due you on not smoking! Good for you! Keep it up.

One more round Joe, then I've got to get to bed. I've got a swim class to teach in the morning and then Show #2 tomorrow night. One man shouldn't be allowed to have this much fun.

Morning all, Joe, Black coffee and some waffleswith butter and lots of syrup. Thanks

Jeffrey, very touching story, I hate to see kids die. On Nov. 10, 1993 I was driving a truck for a the local concrete plant when I came upon a bad wreck ( I was the first one there). A loaded 18 wheeler hauling rock hit a school bus broad side with 9 grade school children on board of which 5 were killed instantly. I won't go into the details, you don't want to know!  I hope that I (or anyone elece) never have to see anything like that again  I guess that is when I really started looking at life from a different view.                 Mike

Indeed! As a rescue specialist and firsy responder I have had to assist in many such accidents. The worst I saw was a grade crossing incident with a freight train and a van. Of the 5 children in the van, 3 died instantly and 1 died later in the ER. The surviving child will be disabled for the rest of his life. That accident was the final straw against ungaurded grade crossings in this area. Now most crossings have gates. It's a shame that such progress has to come at so high a price.
