I think that Life Life, makers of the Proto line, as well as Bachmann and other manufacturers, announce a new item several months before they actually begin production just to build up a demand and see how many they should make. I have noticed this trend for the past several years, ever since manufacturers all shifted their production to China. Bachmann, especially, seems to announce a new product nearly a year before they actually have any available.

Hi E, I know how you feel. I tried for 2 years to get a Frisco E unit. The Proto runs seem to be limited in number. I finally did get one but it was at higher than list price and was on consignment. I don't know if they do this on purpose to jack up the price or not. It sure does seem that way. Last Christmas they released another run of Frisco E units. I called all around even to other states. I finally found 2 new ones and had them hold them for me. They were in Springfield, Missouri. My parents live there so I drove up to visit them and to get my new E units. The ones they held for me were the only 2 they had. Something sure is fishy and stinks about this whole deal. It makes me wonder too, if they do this to drive the price up. Makes me wonder if they sell gasoline too. [V]

P.S. I never did get a pic of that "NYC car". lol [^]

How many folks out there remember an ad in MR or RMC or any other modelrail magazine, actually stating that PROTO had released the RS-2's. I don't but all of a sudden, like over a two week period, all are gone or being hoarded by some unscrupulous distributer, trying to jack up the prices. Hobby shops here in Florida are hard pressed to even be able to find one any where. What happened[?][:(!][:(!]Did PROTO just not produce enough, or is this the beginning of some LIMITED PRODUCTION Scheme to get prices up and out of sight. [?][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]
