What I see is that this is the first time that I remember that somebody's username stirred up contraversy. There is something to be said for that.

I don't care about your name. What was your question? I'll try and help.
(I'm kind of surprised nobody thought Loathar was some dark, evil nick name)

LB,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Personally, I like to converse with people here on the forum and address them by their name. When answering a question to an inquiry from someone I don't know, I usually will click on their profile to see if they have a "real" name and use that start out my response to them. Some people choose to display who they actually are; other's chose to be more anonymus. I try not to judge either way, although I find that the folks who I know on a first name basis are the ones that I enjoy talking to the most.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that since all we have to go by is "LB" (no info, no e-mail - that's your perogative) then it's kinda hard to get to know who you really are. There is something to a name.

So LB, I saw a reference earlier that you are interested in DCC.

Do you have a DCC system? If so, which one? Do you like it? What about sound, tried any sound decoders yet?

Just curious ...

Yeah, I just my first Model Railroader magazine in the mail. About time.

Ok, I'm going to try this again and do my best to repost the thread I started 2 days ago. For those of you who are offended by my username, STAY OUT!! Cause for those of you who are, that's the easies solution. For those of you mature and adult enough to want to help me, give me suggestions, etc.... I very much welcome your opinions and replies. NO NOT turn my thread into another flame fest getting it closed. I give total respect to those who give it to me. Ingage me with sinceable opinions, conversaton, and question and I will return the respect. I am a total newcomer in building my own model railroad and I want help from people, not childish banter over what my user name happens to be and what you 'think' and 'preceive' it to be and mean. That should not matter in no way shape or form matter to model railroading and the subject of my thread. For those of you kind enough to help me, keep an eye out for my next thread.

thank you.

LB,

Would it be offensive if I could refer you by another name - i.e. your proper name, as decribed in my post above?

LB,

I know you have a right to call yourself by any name you want to--if the board permits it. But the fact of the matter is the name you have chosen will continue to cause problems and all the "Please ignore this if you are offended" statements are not going to make that go away. When you mess with a person's religion, you will make them angry.

You can be "right." That's your perogative, just own what you create by your decision. If you are will to accept that you will get a constant stream of anger, fine, but don't complain, you brought it on. I would humbly suggest that if you want to get all you can from this forum, you might be alienating the very people who can help you the most.

I will answer your questions the best I can whatever you call yourself.

Welcome to the forum.

How is my name messing with anyones religion?? I did not choose that name to have anything to do with religion. Again, that is your personal opinion and perception and eveyone else in life should not have to change themselve to suit your personal opinion and perception. That's what is completly wrong with society today is that people expect the world to change to suit them individually of how they feel about things, what they do and don't believe in, etc... We have to be 'politically' correct. Someone mentioned above there is over 200,00 members here. So in essence no matter what I choose for my user name, someone can possibly be offended by it. Should I have to change it every single time for every person who dislikes it or should people take it for what's it's worth, stop trying to make it out worse than what it is. IT'S JUST A NAME!!! Yes you and many others know what the name is and what it is, but that's all it is. If I came out here with the name of Saint Matthew no one out here would probably even give that a second thought nor care nor even probably notice. Take a good *** look next time you type up a message to the smilies to the left of the message box that your typing in that there is a devils face. If my name pisses you off and offends you then you *** well better be ***ing and complaing to the moderators of this forum that there is actually a face of the devil out here....don't matter if it's cartoon like or not. Stop being a bigget and judgemental and stop being an***over something that means nothing personal to anyone. Stop blowing the sitution out of perportion.

I'm done with this rediculess thread.

P.S. Thank you for the Welcome,

You guys are so far off the mark it is truly laughable. You almost make me want to register a smurf so I can keep laughing at your expense. Maybe if you read and comprehended his post about online gaming, or knew anything about online gaming you wouldn't be so presumptuous... Lord_B is a registered user on BF2 and nicks like this are so common amongst younger players... my nick is also a variation of my gaming nick, I see way more offensive combinations of letters online everyday without wetting myself. There are other uses for computers besides moaning about someone's name on a train forum after all.

It is fine if you want to hold tightly to your ultra conservative religious views of the world, but to do so at the expense of a young forumer who quite innocently registers here to ask some questions about MRing, without the preconceived idea that his nick is "offensive" or "controversial" is somewhat hypocritical. You presume he did it to be controversial, you would be presuming wrong IMO, he clearly has no idea of what you are all talking about, to him LB is a line from a Queen song or some other pop culture reference.

The first thread made mention of all kinds of religious overtones to his name, whilst they may well be accurate in your small view of the world, there is another whole side of life that has no regard for your POV, doesn't understand it and therefore doesn't even comprehend the wider implications of such a user name. My religious beliefs are irrelevant to this discussion BTW, I know what the name is, but that is also irrelevant.

Maybe if you weren't ultra conservative Americans with the thinnest skin I have ever seen you would have been prepared to accept his explanantion and move on, but now you are implying he is a smurf of one of our more infamous forumers... get a life you old farts, comprehend something outside your own bifocal vision. Stop looking for a fight every time someone who doesn't live in the buckle of the bible belt drops by.

Whatever the issue, it caused a flap, the MR moderator asked that it be addressed a certain way. No biggie, simply respect the owner of this place and do as requested.

You say you wanted to talk trains, well then prove it.

I for one would like to know more about your DCC interests, what you own, etc. I'm happy to talk DCC or anything else trains.

Well?

no...the assumption was that LB is the late, great, Al Parker...the guy that stormed in and out of the forum many moons ago...LB's writing style is almost a perfect match...I say we drop this whole string and get on with the trains....what's with everybody lately?...snapp'in and bit'in at each other...it's like we all got sprayed by airborne chemtrails of "hate and discontent " juice....it's winter time and we're not getting enough light or something ....chuck

You are right 1000000% and I joined this forum and posted a thread of my own assuming that was the case that "we are here to talkd about trains not complain" as you yourself just said. I post my thread asking questions of people on what to do, I'd like some help....come back two days later (today) to find my thread deleted because of veterain forum members gripping and 'complaining' about my username. Now who is really the one getting all upset over nothing and blowing things way out of perportion??? I'm now voicing my discust in the way unfair judgemental way I've been treated by long time members of this forum who'd I'd expect to receive warm welcomes from and respect.

Grubby's reply is dead on to how things seem to be out here and my nature of my username. It was innocent, nothing personal against anyone or their religion, it wasn't to start fighting with anyone.

Thank you Grubby for seeing things for what their worth and not having a one sided viewpoint of things. But I do have to say in case you missed it, I'm 33 years old, not some young teenage kid. Even if I was, I still deserve some respect as much as anyone else. My rantings in this thread are due to my disbelieve of the actions of veteran forum members that got my thread closed. My excitement in model railroading and looking to you people for help has taken a BIG step back. If this is how people of the hobby act and react, i question the integrity of the hobby in general. And who would blame me considering.

Don't worry Grubby, it's well known that certain people of certain scocieties are the biggest biggets, hipocrites, and judgemental people in the world. Yet is says in that holy book you spoke of that it's totally wrong for them to be that way toward others. Go figure!!

Hey Grubby, how do you know that I am in fact a registured user and that's my username for Battlefield 2?? You have that game and play that game online??? If so that's total cool.

LB,

I was going to stay out of this one. But in looking at your last post........why so abrasive an nasty? Only makes things worse.

Even if many members are offended by your name, cool respenses on your part would likely garner cool responses from posters and less abrasive ones.

Yes, we have freedoms but think about it........if someone were to join this forum with a name like "Decapitator", "PinkMafia", etc., it's going to receive some unwanted responses even if the reason for the name may be from some game or just randomly made up. It's not political correctness...........it's human nature! If a guy walks out to the street with his body covered in tatoos and piercing rings.......he would likely expect to be stared or commented at by people walking by. Why should he be surprised?

So, you have the freedom to keep your name and the freedom to change it. From what I've read above, seems like Bergie is giving you the choice.

Stay cool.

I find it very disingenuous to claim innocence here. This particular name has a religious connection that predates Christianity. It has never had a non religous usage. It's association with evil is long standing. While I wasn't sure at first, now I am convinced that it's selection was deliberate (apparently, this is not the first forum where you have done this) and akin to poking a beehive just to see what would happen. Fine it happened so now you know, pick a new name and let's move on.

If I was a long time member of a forum and someone join with the two names you said....would not bother me one bit. Why should it, is that persons name harming me any?? Why should I take serious offense to that and get that worked up over it. Why should I even care THAT much?? I don't care what your name is. Your user name could be IamSatan, I would see it and not give it a second thought. I know the kind of world we live in these days and I'm better than that, to let something like that get to me.

But i guess that's the difference between me and others. I take things with a grain of salt in life and some people just have to blow everything out of perportion like the sight of my username on these forums is going to cause you to start worshiping the devil or something. And that is how extreme some of you have made this situation over my username. I actually now find it quit funny that out of all the things in life that should be major concerns, the username i just happened to use in a forum is such a hot topic of debate worth arguing over such intensly, so much that it got my thread closed because of it.

Do some of you people really get that easily offended and worked up about everything in life?? Take a deep breath, there is a lot of things in life your not going to like, but you have to learn to deal with it.

I said before I was done with this thread and this time I mean it. I'm getting good responces in my new thread and I appricated those people who are kindy helping me out.

A moderator can happily close this thread. thank you.
