And UP does it again, another great looking locomotive of the Heritage fleet.

Maybe if we start a petition and get CSX to do it...[;)][:p][:D]

First impression is unprintable. How is it possible to produce work such as this and call it a heritage scheme? UP does it again, holding true to the tradition of interpertive railroading. Knowing UP, it won't be long before they put it in a ditch, then perhaps they can repaint it into actual MKT colors.

Perhaps UP will do us a favor and roll it off the nearest embankment at the earliest oppertunity, that should improve it!

Oh my God! If the Katy engine is any indication, when they get around to SP, that one will be painted in mud, rust and splattered oil since that's what most SP engines looked like when UP took over.

Give us a break, UP!! When you do SP, do it in proper Black Widow style.

With just a hint of weathering.

Since they say that they are numbering them in the years that the railroads were "brought underneath the UP shield" how are they going to do the D&RGW and SP? Weren't they both brought in in '96?

I like the red on Santa Fe diesels and I like the red on the EMD demonstrators, but that red just doesn't look that good to me. Maybe it's the silver frame mixed with the dark red. I bet I would like it more if the frame was black.

I don't know what the origanal Katy's looked like but I think it looks nice. I hope CSX takes notice, it would be nice to see some B&O, C7&O,and Western Maryland engines running around!

It's a very pretty engine, but it is being used to justify a very ugly practice. Does anyone honestly think that UP would do this if there wasn't money in it?

Weren't the originals red? Of course Katy never had an SD70ACe, so there isn't an original. I like it!

UP does spend a lot of money to restore depots, run old steam, and donates to a lot things. I saw on Great Layouts on RFD TV, where a whole section of the layout (done by kids) was paid for by UP. So, yes, UP would do something that doesn't generate a profit. Why shouldn't UP be allowed to charge for licensing of railroads now part of them? I think other companies can charge for the licensing of companies they bought out. For those that make the claims about public domain, public domain is for things like Charles Dickens, things that have dropped out of protection, where after a long long time none have the rights anymore. Doesn't CSX charge for the licensing of Conrail? Do you consider football teams, nascar teams, baseball teams, fast-food changes, auto manufactures, a great number of railroads, music manufactures, and a vast host of others, to be taking part in an ugly practice?
This is from Trains News wire, tell me how UP made money on this:

Union Pacific sends kids to the circus

OMAHA - As the "Greatest Show on Earth" rolls into cities across the country, it is tracks, the Union Pacific says, not roads that pave the way. For more than 100 years, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey has traveled the western United States over the UP, and this year, the circus and the railroad have teamed up to provide hundreds of circus tickets for children in states where UP operates. The circus operates two trainsets across the U.S. on various railroads.

Union Pacific designated Boys & Girls Clubs and Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations in Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Houston, and Omaha as the recipients of 50 tickets each to the opening-night event.

By the way UP only charges pennies for this ugly practice, most companies charge far more.

Well, my first impression was Bleck!!! But the more I look at it, ya know, actually that's not all that bad. It ain't great, but this is the first of the bunch that I'd actually like to have a model of. I never knew the Katy had a red scheme though, so it is a Kind of a shock......

Oh well. At least the WSOR's paint shop is getting some free publicity.

Not bad. It reminds me of the old MKT Alco PA's. I'd like to see CSX do a Conrail unit!

I think it's nice. Yeah, it doesn't look much like a real MKT unit, but remember that chances are, they'd have a different paint scheme by now if they still existed.

Maybe these aren't actual MKT colors, but they are close. This scheme is reminiscent of MKT's Texas special. According to the "Trains" article they did have some other schemes, but I think this one probably commands the most attention, so that is likely why UP used it.

As I recall, UP acquired SP who previously acquired D&RGW, so in essence, UP did acquire both in the same year as was already mentioned. What they will probably do is to number the SP unit (1996?) for when UP acquired SP and number the D&RGW (1995?) unit for when SP acquired D&RGW (at least that's what I would do).

Wow! I remembered this wrong. After further reading, I have learned that it was D&RGW that acquired SP (though they kept the SP name), way back in 1988. UP then acquired D&RGW in 1996. This complicates things a little, since the KATY loco already has the number 1988. Now we'll have to wait to see what number they use for these units!

My guess is that when they do the SP unit, it will be in the Daylight scheme. As with the red MKT scheme, the SP Daylight scheme commands attention, so I expect that's what UP will use. Perhaps they should paint one in every scheme of every fallen flag they've acquired so they can keep all their logos and copyrights current!

Finally! The UP got one right.I like that scheme. The light blue on the MOP unit was just plain wrong[xx(]. The WP looks good but it looks like the paint crew broke for lunch halfway back, and forgot to finish when they came back, leaving the rear half in primer.I hope UP does as well on the rest of the Copyright Protection scheme[}:)] units.
