Top of the page.   Mussels for everyone.

I forgot to add I've been bingeing on the American Battlefield Trust commemoration of Gettysburg 160 years later

Learned a great deal that I did not know.  I lived 90 minutes away and made many trips to the battlefield.  If you have never been, it should be on your bucket list.

Kevin as a former haberdasher, I am wondering how tall you are and what you pants leg length is?

Did you guys know there were "track nails"   Perhaps they should have been called tie nails because that's where they were.   They have a 2 digit number.  I picked up some in WV somewhere.  Did railroads ever replace their ties just based on dates?

This is funny and sad at the same time.   https://youtube.com/shorts/hAvHF5IBWCM?feature=share

This guy is a Youtuber, who admits to a unhealthy past.  What he does for recreation is unmentionable in this forum.  However he has his fans.  Someone sent him a track nail numberboard.

Sadly, it will be immediately obvious to you, but not obvious to the Youtuber that the nails are in consecutive order by date.  When he shows you the back of the board, you wouldn't hang it on your wall.

Happy 4thish July all-

I found a cool photo op on the way home from a show Tuesday that I wanted to share with you guys. My apoligies if the image doesn't work, it's been a long time since I posted a pic. The geeps were resting in Mason Mi.

I know an individual who spends thousands of dollars on fireworks.

I am sure some of the people around here spent in excess of $1,000.00 on their private shows.

Three or four brass USRA locomotives exploding in the sky... I could never do that.

For reasons unknown, possession and use of fireworks is legal in Dodge City from July 3rd through July 5th.  We have been surrounded by private fireworks shows.  I know an individual who spends thousands of dollars on fireworks.  At this stage of my life, not something that interests me at all.

Finally, progress on the train room.  My daughter is in town for a week, and she loves to jump start projects.  She declared that it was time to paint the train room, so we did.  We also started our outdoor painting project on the wooden windows, soffits and trim.  We got one window set done as proof of concept.  Wife is supposed to power wash soffits so we can paint this weekend.

Need to know your shirt size my friend?

Was this directed towards me?

TF: You can't buy T-shirts that fit me. Seriously. I have such an unusually long torso that the only shirt that even comes close is special-order from Dickies directly size 3XLXT. Any other T-shirt leaves about 2 inches of torso hanging out of the bottom.

There is good reason 80% of my wardrobe is Dickies. The rest are expensive shirts made just for crazy-tall freaks like me. Even so-called Big & Tall stores don't have thinsg that fit me.

"Big OR Tall" would be a better description. It sucks being big AND tall.

Good morning everybody.

This comes from the department of silly family traditions.

From the very first road trip we took as a family, way back in 1989, if we are near Chattanooga, Tennessee, we drive to the park on Lookout Mountain and take pictures looking down the barrel of one of the cannons.

I don't know why. We did it then, and then we kept on doing it.

This is my wife holding our third daughter (Baby/Baby), way back in 1995. My daughter was just five weeks old for this picture.

Here she is again at 15 years old. I have dozens of these pictures with each of us taken every couple of years.

Today, I was sent this picture, and it was the greatest thing I have ever seen. I was absolutely overcome with happiness.

She drove her little sports car up the mountain and had a stranger take a picture of her puppy looking down the cannon barrel.

She sent a big huge appology for the picture being so bad. She made a cute pose, but the guy took the picture too early.

I don't care. She is the only daughter that went up the mountain as an adult and sent me one of these pictures. It made me so happy.

Good morning

An utterly delightful day forecasted today, with the dew point in the mid-30s, and a high of 76.  Could be the nicest day of the year.  I'm going to plant my hiney outdoors all day todayLaugh

I'd hang around that Turbine witcha, and always been fond of that modern BN paint scheme myself EdYes

I've got too many parts!!

I just spent an hour looking for some bridge rectifiers which I know I have but I couldn't find them.Grumpy I had them in my hands a few days ago but now they are nowhere to be found.

I have three medium sized drawers full (overflowing to be honest) of electronic components and I went through each drawer very carefully, but nada. They are probably sitting on the workbench right in front of me.

Fortunately we have Digi-Key to save us. By tomorrow afternoon I will have 20 new bridge rectifiers delivered to my door for peanuts, and then I can get on with the project that I need them for. That project is the Cook Car lighting system for which I am trying to build a set of spring contacts so I can take the shell off without having to disconnect any plugs. I messed up the bridge rectifier that I had already installed in the circuit.

Oh heck, what's another complication between friends!

Cheers!!

Dave

Speaking of Brother Elias, it seems he's been rather scarce in the Diner the last few weeks.  Ought we inquire as to his welfare - or whereabouts?

Fireworks are illegal in Florida, unless you are using them to scare birds. When the fireworks are sold, a paper needs to be signed where you swear you will use them to scare birds.

Just in from Action News:

Authorities in Florida have reported a major fire underway at a vacant mall.  It was reportedly started by a flaming seagull.  Witnesses stated that the wayward bird burst into flame after it was struck by a bottle rocket fired by local residents trying to scare it away.  The bird plummeted to the mall roof where it ignited accumulated dried palm fronds.

The fire is now partially under control, but damage is expected to be extensive.

More news at 11:00.

I thought that "sorting washers" would be a boring job.

Then I looked down at the next pic.

Sorting spikes? A mountain of 'em?

Those jobs must have "gone cheap", seniority-wise...!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

I am celebrating the proper way....  (I bought a 5th. on the 3rd.)

Actually I will be out at my son's house for most of the day and we will celebrate then.  Besides I have had plenty enough of the (illegal) fireworks from the guy one street over (BOOM!!!!) which has gone on every day for the last two weeks and will continue for about another month......  The City will have a large fireworks display late tonight about the time I get home (Psssshhhhh BOOM!) That I enjoy.  Nice day today so I will likely sit out on my deck and enjoy it from there.  The idiot with the illegal stuff will likely be going on before and after the City Display....  It is illegal here in NYS but the police don't have enough manpower to enforce what happens here every year and simply ignore the danger.  Sooner or later, someone will get seriously hurt and then there will be a lot of finger pointing.....
