Thanks for your insight, Charlie. I'm early-on in the game here so I'll keep you posted.

Good Afternoon,

Ed, hope your prostate photo turns out ok. I had one of those photos before my surgery as it was enlarged. My urologist put me on drugs to get it down in size so he could get it out more easily.  Largely solved my getting up at night too but that is an extreme solution. Got rid of the cancer too.

Just back from a grocery pickup. The car doesn't stall and starts right up even though it sounds as if it is running on 5 cylinders at idle.

Tea is brewing. A nice cup of Yorkshire Gold.

Wife may go to dentist for a checkup on Thursday but she is beside herself with fear from covid.

I would give anything to have one of these days back.

-Kevin

No, John and Kevin.   They are memories.    Memories   you love and learned from.   Go back to any day and you will do things differently.  I guarantee.

Why?  You would do things the way you know now. Not what you knew then.

Your families love and respect you for the decisions you chose at that time.  They will never know the true challenges you faced.

Love your families.   It is all it is,  (and I know you do.)

They love you for what you did (and do).

Enjoy your now moment.  Your families are deep in their own.

My wife found some old photos yesterday.  Sorting through vacation photos of when our daughters were all under eight years old really made me feel the years.  I would love to have one of those days back -- I didn't savor them enough back then.

Something like these:

I can't believe they are all grown up now. I know exactly what you mean. I would give anything to have one of these days back.

Good morning.  Another busy day ahead, but not busy enough to miss bacon, eggs, and coffee.

Growing old -- my wife found some old photos yesterday.  Sorting through vacation photos of when our daughters were all under eight years old really made me feel the years.  I would love to have one of those days back -- I didn't savor them enough back then.

The snow is gone, so that means ... yes, more snow is predicted for tomorrow night into Thursday.  Back in November, it was kind of fun to see the first snow falling.  Now, not so much.

On the Wordle front, I lost my longest streak the other day.  I had "_i_ty".  My last attempt I guessed "sixty" instead of "fifty".  Lately, I have been thinking of giving it up -- some days it feels a little like work.  I probably should give Wordle a rest for a while.

Have a good day, everyone.

That garage looks like it might be a nice structure to model.  It's charismatic.  It looks to be about 60ft +/- and I would suppose an automobile length plus about 8 to 10 ft in depth, nice size for an HO business.  It kinda reminds me of some of the 50's Plasticville buildings like the dime store, the general store, etc. only with a lot more character.

I thought the same thing when I photographed it. The building looked like it was from Pasticville.

Judy and me haven't gone shopping for curtains for quite some time as we only have two windows now, and seam to have those covered

All the windows in my house finally just have white blinds that are recessed into the window cavity. This is much easier. We are done with curtains.

She talked me into purchasing some spendy down alternative pillows, and some 800 thread count Egyptian sheets, to upgrade the Rack yesterday.

I hate expensive sheets. They always feel slick and uncomfortable to me.

I prefer basic white all-cotton sheets that don't even put the thread count on the package. I also like them best new, so I would replace them every month.

My wife prefers the expensive sheets... oh well.

Good morning

My part-time punch list around the building has been a bit full time lately.  No complaining here though, as it makes for quite the healthy railroad fundageLaugh

Judy and me haven't gone shopping for curtains for quite some time as we only have two windows now, and seam to have those coveredWhistling  She talked me into purchasing some spendy down alternative pillows, and some 800 thread count Egyptian sheets, to upgrade the Rack yesterdaySleep

That certainly made for a better night sleep last night for sure, but she made me shower before hitting the rackIndifferent  I'm like a cat in the evening, and don't prefer to get wet before bed, as it made a rat's nest out of my mop, sleeping on that new pillowLaugh

Yes we did sleep much better, but can one account for a better night's rest with those four sets of slumber, in-between the three times running to the John in the middle of the night?

It might be a good idea for me to be slid into that sewer like MRI tube as well Ed.  I'm getting used to that tube, after being put in it for the two DT flare-upsTongue Tied  Just wish one could order a complete set of some new Plumbing, as mine's getting rustyLaugh

Yes, Good Ol' Mel hit the nail on the head, that "Aging is Not for Wimps", and would also like to add, ..."Growing old is a Privilege, but comes with its Consequences!"

Liked the white face Green Machine by the way, Thanks for that! Smile, Wink & Grin

Finally have a complete day off today, and I'm going to run down to Scale Model Supply in St Paul to pick up three Micro Engineering, girder plate, deck bridge kits.  I'm throwing in the towel on the scratch built ones.  Also just found out they have N scale raised rivet decals for truss bridge, gusset plate detail. Those ought to be interestingHuh?...Tongue Tied...Laugh

How about a contribution of some colorful Green Machine Heritage

Have a great Taco Tuesday gentlemenSmile

No diner for me yeaterday as I spent a good part of the day stuffed into a sewer-pipe like MRI machine to get a nice picture of my prostate. I hope it came out OK.

My word Chloe, what a quiet day in the Diner! I almost don't like disturbing you but could I have a cup of apple tea, and a ham sandwich, please.

My daughter is 32 now, so she was born before the gender reveal fad, but after amniocentesis was an accepted add-on for older parent births.  So, we knew right away, mostly because my ex wanted to know what color to paint the baby room.   The amniocentesis was a bit freaky, because we were away that day, pre cell phones, and got a message to call back about the results.  This was a Friday late, so we were left wondering.  Fortunately,  they called back to say everything is fine, nothing to worry about.

Good Morning,

A warm day expected here, about 32F but it is cloudy,

Started the car on Sat. and it was missing. Didn't stop doing so even after it warmed up. I have it scheduled for a visit to the dealer on Friday. I asked for a loaner and they said 'sure'. Not bad considering my car is a 2010. Expect it is a fuel system issue or perhaps a coil. Anyway the engine light is on so needs to be hooked up to their computer. Whatever it is I expect a large bill. Oh well, it has been a very good car. I guess its age is catching up. I need the rear brakes replaced so will get that done too.

John, my wife never gets up before noon but 3a.m. is an early night for her.

Wonder how Ken is doing. I miss his posts but it seems he has abandoned the Diner for good.

Haven't heard from Batman lately.

I had hoped to get the last of my N scale stuff to the LHS this week but that will have to wait until the car is fixed.

Nothing much new here. My no contact life is very boring.

John:  That looks wonderful.

Kevin:  I sleep with my lawn service.  We bought a lawn tractor to mow our 1.25 acres; my wife loves to mow on that thing.  I still have to weed eat, which takes longer than the mowing does.  She has several neighbors that advise her to keep the lawn looking good.

Tornado sirens went off last night around 6:00.  We had been watching the storm develop on tv; knew we weren't in any danger, but we went to the basement anyway.  There was one tornado south of town, and several north.  We had actually cleaned out one stall of the garage to fit our SUV in to avoid hail.  Our pickup would not fit in the garage, regardless as it is too long.  No hail, straight line winds of 50 mph.  We have had worse.  In the year and a half we have been here, only the second time the sirens have gone off.  I hope that last night was not a preview of what is to come this year.

Good morning, diners.  Chloe, I'll have bacon, eggs, hash browns, and coffee, please.

Last night's thunderstorm took away most of the snow on the ground.  We still have some big piles of snow near the street, but the lawn is completely uncovered for the first time in quite a while.

Very tiring night -- Daisy the Dachshund not doing well during the night.  Not sure if this means the end is near.

My lawn service just showed up. I am normally still asleep when they are hear. I did not know what all the noise was, and it kind of scared me! How do I sleep through this?

I have to laugh reading this.  My wife is in the same boat.  She sleeps very late, and I always tell her there's a whole world of activity going on while she sleeps.

My calendar is scheduled today, so I will check back later.  Can't believe we're near the end of the month.  The calendar pages are turning quickly now.

Good morning all.  A large coffee and blueberry muffin please, Janie.

Congratulations, Dave & Dianne.  Sounds a great fun with the Power Rangers.

A long time friend of ours as returned back to the U.K.  from U.S.A. and is visiting us today;  before returning to Texas.

Our younger granddaughter starts going to Brownies properly  tonight.   Her other times she went  was to let her see what they will be doing.

Kevin, you mentioned crazy weather.

I caught the weather report on the 11:00 news last night. Since our Winter was so warm (probably will be the hottest Winter on record), they are predicting more and massive Hurricanes next year.

Time to begin being scared I guess.

I don’t understand the big palaver about revealing the kid’s gender!

Hi Bear,

In North America having gender reveal parties has become the norm, but I'm in agreement with you that I would rather wait until the baby has been born in order to find out the gender. I guess what really matters is that the baby be healthy.

I do have to say that the reveal party was lots of fun! The Power Ranger skit was really well done. We got to see a bunch of Cole and Kaitlins' friends that we hadn't seen for a long time, and all had a good time.

Cheers!!

Gidday Chloe, though I’ve been in and out, I see I’ve a bit of catching up to do. Sorry to read about your friend, Kevin, and congrats to Grandpa Dave, though I don’t understand the big palaver about revealing the kid’s gender! Her-in-Doors and I didn’t want to know, we were just hoping for  heathy bubs! We actually ended up with one of each, and are proud of both.

CN Charlie, I was born and bought up in Southland, and while I’ve spent over three and a half times, apart from several years in Australia, living in the North Island, it’s a funny thing that I still consider myself a Southerner.

Anyhow, after an tumultuous eleven year period of the New Zealand Railways being in private ownership, and another 4 years in private/government ownership, in 2008 it became, once again, a fully State Owned Enterprise, known as Kiwirail.
Here’s some examples of the early Kiwirail livery with a horizontal separation between the red and grey…

It would seem that we have a small consensus on the theme for the March Diner. I think that showing some different and unusual pieces of rolling stock could be quite interesting.

Are there any other suggestions?

Cheers!!

Kevin, you mentioned crazy weather.  We have snow on the ground, but we're having a thunderstorm right now with rain.

The trouble with the rain is that the ground is still frozen and the water all runs off before it can get into the soil.

We are coming to the end of the month.   What is the theme for March?   As a suggestion how about different types of rolling stock?

Hi David,

I looked back through the January Diner but I could only find the theme we have used for February, so we are open to suggestions.

I like the ideal of doing different kinds of rolling stock. It would be fun to see some of the rarer brass creations, both locomotives and cars.

What does everyone think?

I will move the Diner unless someone else would like to do it.

Cheers!!

Good morning everyone. It is going to be another warm day down here, but the high is only expected to be 82, so we are getting some relief. The highs should stay in the low 80s for the rest of the week.

I am buying the trim for the soffit project today. I ran out of angle brackets, and they won't arrive for a week. I have about 40 feet of soffit left to install, but I will start on trim for now. So many supplies are still hard to get.

At least lumber is plentiful again.

Well Kevin....  Up here in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, we always have 4 seasons.  Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Repair.  Take your pick.

We have the normal four seasons down here...

Two weeks of Fall

Two days of Winter

Two weeks of Spring

Eleven months of Summer, with six months of daily rain

The reveal party was a lot of fun. They revealed the gender by having two friends in Power Rangers costumes, one blue and one pink.

That sounds like a great gender reveal. Almost everyone in Florida does it with fireworks. The fireworks suppliers have some very interesting options, some of which are simply amazing and creative.

Too many Floridians try to go off the scale with the fireworks and add too much, then Florida Man makes the news again.

Sad

Alright, guys, put your thinking caps on and propose ways of doing a gender reveal using your model railroad - well, maybe somebody else's.

My friend Danny used his Garden Railroad for his gender reveal. He loaded a train with boy's toys and backed it into a tunnel.

Of course, he and his wife already knew at that point.

Kevin, the red beans looked great.  I love making red beans.  That's a Monday food in New Orleans, and generally anything left in the refrigerator goes into the pot.

I lived in Slaughter, Louisiana (outside of Baton Rouge) for a year in 1981-1982. The exposure I had to food changed my life. I am sure I will never be able to make Red Beans & Rice like I experienced there.
