My first "exposure" to the Burlington was when I was but a little tyke (well, around ten or so) and I'd spend a lot of time around the Collinwood yard of the New York Central. Around there all the engines were black or dark gray.

Then one day something like this showed up!

Seeing Red by Don Kalkman, on Flickr

Like finding a cherry in the coal pile.

Maybe next month we could have a Locomotive/company/colours/heralds/logo theme. Changes and variations over the years.

Back to the dentist tomorrow to get the temporary crown replaced with the final cap. I miss my old GE dental insurance. This is $1800 in train money I had to spend.

I had a tooth crowned a couple of years ago. I think it had been cracked for a long time because the pain would come and go, but it was never all too bad.

After the crown was installed, it took about eight weeks to get used to it, and I have felt great since.

Good Morning Diners.  Flo, are there any leftovers from the dinner Brent left last night?  I'll take some for breakfast if so!

Having grown up in Florida, I saw few trains

I feel your pain.  I grew up in the middle of nowhere.  My small town had a Chessie System branch that ran through it on the way to the car ferries in Ludington, MI.  Problem was, I grew up out in the country, so rarely was near those tracks, much less be lucky enough to catch a train on them.

Like finding a cherry in the coal pile.

I read years ago that prior to dieselization, the highest selling road name in Lionel trains was the New York Central.  Once diesels hit the scene, that rapidly switched to the Santa Fe.  Wonder why?  Whistling  Cherry in the coal pile indeed!

I picture you as more of a "Hustle Muscle" type, TF!

Lake Superior Railroad Museum, Duluth, MN by d.w.davidson, on Flickr

I've always had a lot of Hustle in my step Ed.  Just not as much in recent yearsLaugh  That GN sure is a neat one as you are correct,  I'd love to see that added to my roster.  Looked over eBay and only seen two in O scale.

These handsome, specialty locomotives bring a pretty penny, if you're even lucky enough to even find them.  The sellers are smart enough to know they're in high demand.

I've lost-out in several auctions, wanting a pair of the Chicago & Northwestern, Bird of Prey SD40-2 Falcon Service Editions.  These paint schemes go for a minimum of twice the price of what they were new.

That Burlington splash of color, ("cherry in the coal pile" Laugh) must of been a refreshing sight at the Collinwood yard back in the day.  And the CB&Q bi-level race track, a fun site to see as well.

Still have my CB&Q Calf and Cow my GF Lavon, (who was quite the knockout) gave to me for my 26th golden birthday.  The receipt is still in the box from December 26th 1989.

It ran like a champion, for the first time some 30 years later.  With the traction tires, is one of my best pullers.

You got to get up pretty early in the morning to sneak one past the FiddlerLaugh  Happened to notice the Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific, wood sided box car, lurking behind d.w.davidson's Hustle Muscle Stick out tongue

Brought back the memoriesSmile  DWP, a subdivision railroad owned by CN was known as the Peg by the locals, runs between Fort Frances, Canada and Duluth, Minnesota.

I'd watch DWP consists, run the rails parallel to Highway 53 out the school bus window, from a good fifteen miles east of Ray to Orr, as seen on the map.

What's interesting if you look at the map, if one was to fish Rainy Lake, they better have both Canadian and Minnesota fishing licenses.  Many tourists would get citations, even though they were warned by the resort owners.

Thanks for the BN race track video as the double deckers were fun to watch.  My thoughts with you for the dentist todayTongue Tied  My temporary filling never made it to be crowned, as the tooth cracked apart and had to be pulled.  Maybe one should have been eating softer foods in-between dentist visitsWhistling

Good Morning,

The mild spell has ended, -11F now and -30 forecast by the weekend. Time to plug in the block heater.

I was lucky as a lad to have the CN west mainline a reasonable bike ride from our house so I saw a lot of rail traffic. As Winnipeg was the last bastion of steam here, about 50% of the trains were announced by a smoke plume. That was '58/59.

TF, similar situation on Lake of the Woods. The best fishing was on the Canadian side so the boats from the camps on the Rainy River would stop at my friend's dock on our side to buy a license and some live minnows. He did a good business. Quite a few did get fined though as they thought they could land on islands on our side without going through customs. The RCMP patrolled the lake.

Have to pickup groceries later. We are still getting them online.

I finally have the 5 axle C Liner on the layout. Forgot how heavy it is.

No other plans today but may start painting a building kit I bought last year. It is Mo Skeeters bait shop.

Another beautiful day here in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State!  Looking out the window I see a lot of little white thingies moving sideways northbound.  I can alomost make out the houses across the street at times.  Around here we call the condition "Partly Cloudy"!  We have had a couple inches of "Partly Cloudy" so far.  Only because most of it is moving North at a pretty good clip....

Oh yes!  I am now in quarentine.....  Last Sunday I was over at my son's house watching the Bills lose...  (Not happy about that either!) I sat next to his MIL for dinner.  That next morning she tested positive for COVID!  She is an administrative Nurse at a nursing home!  Yesterday I provided transportation to school and back for midterm finals for my oldest Granddaughter.  Guess who is now symtematic and awaiting the report of her COVID test???  We were both wearing masks the whole time she was in the car and I kept a rear window partly open to give more air circulation, but!!!!!

Oh well, the next several days should let me know where I stand.  I have had all 4 Vaccinations so I should have some protection....!

Good afternoon.  I'd like some black coffee, Flo.

I just got home from a funeral.  I believe the guy beat the odds.  He was 82, but had battled cancer for 20 years.  Years back he was not given good chances, but through all the treatments and surgeries, he continued to battle.  His legacy is one we all aim for -- he was remembered for helping anyone who needed anything.

I have a good afternoon for more layout work.  Retirement is the best!

Without mentioning everyone, I want everybody to know how much I enjoy my time in the diner.

Hope everyone has a great day.

During the years the space shuttle was flying, the solid rocket boosters made a trip from Utah to Florida, and the used boosters made the trip back to be refurbished in Utah.

They were shipped by rail:

The space shuttle fuel tank was made in New Orleans, and went to Florida through the Gulf of Mexico on a barge.  I had a 'friend' who worked at the Michoud plant where the tank was manufactured:

Good morning from the cloudy West Coast where it is 6c.

After I finish this 3rd gallon (imp gal) of Tims, I will cook up a huge pile of bacon and eggs as I am a little lighter than optimum. I had not been working out as much so cut back on consumption but maybe a little too much. I also see a big bowl of ice cream in my future.Dinner

We had nine dog people in here on Sunday afternoon to go over the puppies and it was getting late in the afternoon so my wife says, do you guys want to stay for dinner? They instantly said yes and my wife pulls a 20-pound turkey out of the freezer and proceeds to make a feast with stuffing, cheese cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and mashed potatoes with gallons of gravy. They drank 4 bottles of my best wine to boot. It was like Christmas dinner all over again. What a woman.Bow

The only downside of all these visitors is I caught a bug. I had not left the homestead in a week so one of them was packin. I'll get out with my bud for a scoot and that will help clear my head. Having a "man cold" gets me coffee in bed.Laugh

I took some really good videos of my new Rapido Canadian cars in action. Went to edit it all only to notice a bottle of isopropanol towering over the scene.Grumpy They look pretty good, but they need people in them.

The puppies are 31 days and my wife started training them 3 days ago. They will be well along by the time they go to their new homes.

I will be 66 on the 29th. My wife says that is one "6" away from the little devil my mother always said I was, so I am getting there.Mischief

Best get movin, before I become an old man. My Garmin says my fitness age is 43, I have lost two years recently, I need to fix that.

All the best to all.

Oh yes! I am now in quarentine...

Yeah. Been there done that. Br. Joseph is our new infirmarian (he replaced in in my senility) and he has the COVID test strips. POSITIVE.

Seven days in captivity... er I mean isolation. They would bring trays up to me, set them on a table outside of my door, and then I could open the door and bring my meal into my cage. Dou you know how much you can see on Oooo Tooob in seven dayze.

After that seven dayze you can leave your cage with a masque and keep your distance from the otters.

ROAR   PS guess what is for supper tonight.

Just texted my Granddaughter.  Test came back positive!  Fun....  Hope I can stay OK myself.  We were at least masked in the car and I had a rear window down part way for air circulation.....  Will know in a few days I guess.

Cold rain in Annapolis.
the night before my colonoscopy, I set some pills on the bed before rushing to the bathroom.

When I returned I reached for the pills and was mauled by my friends cat. I ordered her out of the room and swallowed my pills, one of which was soft and wet Tongue Tied

Three 1 mm polyps removed and diverticuli.  I count that as a success.

She cooks it from frozen. Out of the freezer into the oven. About an hour in we take it out and remove the gizzards and neck. A while later the stuffing goes in. It is always mouth-watering.

I cooked the last Thanksgiving dinner for the gang as the wife was at a dog show. I nailed it. She rolled in at 1700hrs and the family right after.

Cooking a 20 pound turkey from frozen would take 7-8 hours.

Not really the kind of meal you prepare from "who wants to stay for dinner".

I showed up at 1700hrs and was put to work peeling the potatoes, carrots and cut up the broccoli and cauliflower, and shredded the cheese. Of course, I got myself a bottle of wine first. I always like to have a glass of wine while doing that stuff. I think she said it took 5-1/2 hours. We have two convection ovens so that may have made a difference. We ate at 7:30 and they all left around ten. Five of them were up from the U.S. and staying at a hotel and had nothing else to do.Laugh

This film is akin to 'Steam Locomotive 101' It answers many questions about the servicing and operating of a steam locomotive:

Our cat Whoopie just passed away at age eighteen. She was a rescue from the GE plant where I w**ked. Wilson and the other cats are planning a memorial service at the caboose when the spring thaw comes around. Catnip and Friskies treats all around!
