Good Morning Diners.  Chloe, coffee in a large Mercitalia mug please.  Good luck finding that one.

Busy weekend here, and in the diner as well I see.  I've got some catching up to do.

I see David has become a Top of the Page Hog!  Intersting twist he has put on it with a delayed drink offering each time.  Pirate

Some Italian freight trains to go with my Mercitalia mug.

After the first big snowstorm of the season in central BC, an empty grain train plows through fallen trees on its way eastbound into the Canadian Rockies. "Get your smash glasses on!"

Why don't these guys have to glue the grab irons back on after a trip like this?

Good morning, diners.  I'll check back for food after I get home this evening, so I'll just have coffee this morning.

Kevin, that church has an unusual roof on the steeple.  I can't quite tell if it's a round roof or an octagonal one.  Neat picture.

I've missed some days so I'm not able to comment on everyone's posts, but I will try to catch up later today.  Thanks to everyone for keeping the diner open and the waitresses working.

I'm off to get dressed for another funeral.

Good morning. It is just getting light and the green dark forest is too silent to be real.

Mr. Moon is about to turn in after working the night shift.

Time to grab a dog, head out and enjoy the solitude.

Hi Everyone,

Brunhilda, coffee with cream, please.

Yesterday, I was able to convince my wife to go to Trainfest.  I hadn't been there before and really wanted to go since I had the time available.  It didn't disappoint.  Most of the manufacturers were there including some I hadn't heard of.  There were several historical societies represented and of course vendors selling everything from locomotives to pink engineer's hats.  There were even a couple of booths selling stone countertops and leaf gutters.
But then,.... there were the modular layouts.  Lots of them!  O gauge 3-rail, HO, S, N, traction, narrow gauge, LGB, even 1 1/2" to the foot scale.  Obviously, that one didn't have a layout set up.
I think the modular idea for clubs is a good idea.  It allows those of us who don't have much space to model a small area and put it together with other modules to make a much bigger layout.  There was some very good modeling on display at the show.  I'll try to post pictures later.

Ciao for now.

Woke up to light snow this morning; supposed to snow most of the day, although it is not supposed to accumulate more than a couple of inches.

Spent the better part of yesterday afternoon putting up the "first wave" of Christmas lights on the house.  It took us two ladders, seven strings of 50' LED lights, and three hours to outline the house.  In College Station, I could reach the roof line and gutters without assistance, and could outline the house in less than an hour (I am 6'7").  I am sure that my wife is going to start decorating the inside of the house today.  Next week we will wrap the trees in more lights, but that is not nearly as difficult as doing the house.

I got to spend some time last night in the basement, continuing the organization project.  Made a lot of progress, but still some work to do.  I put up a trial balloon, telling my wife that my daughter is going to help me with benchwork next week; she didn't shoot me down.  We are going to Texas Friday night to work on our storage units in College Station, to condense two units into one.  I hope that we can make decisions on what needs to come north and what can go into the dumpster.  Plan is to return to Kansas on Sunday, with my daughter.  She will fly home the following Sunday.

Monday on the Bourbon Trail and we are in Loisville, Kentucky.  We went to the Buffalo Trace distillery yeasterday.  Actually, we went to a candy factory that makes bourbon balls candies, and found we were 5 minutes from Buffalo trace.  They had an opening for a tasting, so we took advantage of it.  I sampled everything, but the GF is the bourbon drinker.

It snowed here in Kentucky yesterday.  Saturday we left the Delaware beaches at 70 degrees.

And I really don't like places that make you use your cell phone to view the menu and order.  I want a paper menu and some college-age waitress working her way through school.

Sunday our free hotel breakfast was garbage.  Today it was much better.

I'll second that!!!WinkWink  The cell phone I have because it is needed to drive the Tesla!  Well, I can use the "loids" that come with it, but much quicker to just walk up to the car and get in.  If a restaurant made me order using the "dumb" phone, I would find some place else to eat!  And, personally I appreciate nice scenery when I eat out as well.  Much of the time I arrive with nice "scenery" but a bit older than the waitresses. Good Afternoon,

A pleasant day here, about 25F, sunny with very light wind.

The CPR Hudson finally left the station today. Sure is a smooth running loco.

Mr. B, sounds like a fun trip you are on. Not partial to Bourbon myself, was always a Rye drinker back in the day. My favourite tipple was Wisers Deluxe but has been many years since I've had any. Just stick to wine now.

No plans for today but I rarely do.

Time for another cup of tea.

Good morning

Did a little slip-n-slide fish tailing to get my snow legs on in the truck yesterdayPirate  Just a couple inches but those are the slippery ones when the snow isn't deep enough to somewhat hold the sides of your tires.  Everyone should break the tires free where it's clear with no traffic to get the feel of things so reaction is instinctive when they might need it.  The fancy lads in their SUV's apparently don't do that.  They think four wheel drive is invincible and that's why you always see those putzes in the ditchWhistling

Don't know why Minnesotans forget how to drive every year.  Those who don't know how to drive when it's slippery should just stay home to keep everyone else safe.  161 in the ditch and 357 crashes yesterday.

Used to plow snow all night back in the day but never plowed treesLaugh  Job security as tow truck drivers plow cars all day.  Body shop owners certainly love the snow shortly after the tow dudes doLaugh

Yes, everyone has a Hey Day.  I'd call it a Snow Day but that's when the Kids get to stay home from school.

TF, it is nice to get those Hilton getaways.

That it is Brent.  Judy likes to get away for those extended weekends frequently.  She gets Free-B's often but otherwise rooms are only 35 - $40.00 as one of her employee perks.  We've been to so many places near the area to explore that we're running out of ideas here.  Are you kidding me, not my Judy, she never runs out of ideasLaugh

We love to go to Duluth as you never run out of things to do in that town.  Even things you did last time are fun again.  She wants to go there to see all the Christmas lights at Bentleyville and also the display in Somerset Wisconsin.  Once that woman gets a "Bee in Her Bonnet" That's It!  Now I know where I'm going in a few weeks.

My favorite shorty trip was to Dodgeville Wisconsin to go through The House On The Rock.  It takes about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to walk through that place and longer if you stop at the cafeteria in the middle of it.  I want to go back there again as that place was disturbing and fun at the same time.  It's like walking through a delightful nightmare.  If there is such a thing, that place is it.  Only way I can describe it.

I'll try the ham and cheese omelet, with coffee, please.

Snowing again this morning, very lite. Yes, Minnesota drivers can't remember how to drive in it for 6 months. They have to learn allover. Mostly the hard way. The snow makes me appreciate our townhouse. The association is responsible for snow removal.

Hi Everyone,

As stated yesterday, my wife and I went to Trainfest.  Here are a couple of pictures taken of layouts.  I took video of most of the layouts, but here are a few stills.

These are of an N scale modular layout.  I think it's a Chicago area club called N-Trak.  One of these mods was posted last month for fall colors, but the picture was taken in 2019.  These were taken last Sunday, 11-13-22.

Here is the previously posted module from a different angle.  You may notice the freight cars have moved, but the trucks haven't.

N scale was well represented at the show.  I'm flat out amazed at the detail some of these guys can do in N.

It's good to hear from you.  It shows this as your first post.  I'm not sure if that's correct, but if it is, don't get discouraged if your posts don't show up right away.  After posting several times, the issue goes away.  It's good to hear from you.

Jim UP831, thanks for the photos from the event.  I agree with you about some N scale modelers.  It's amazing what they can do.  My layout is N scale, and I don't exactly fit in with those guys.

TF, you are probably able to drive very well on the snow and ice.  Watch out for those other people.  I agree about SUV drivers.  I have an Expedition, but I know that it doesn't matter what I'm driving, I can't stop quickly or take sharp turns on ice no matter what SUV I have.

Tin Can, I hope your eye issues heal quickly.  You're right -- we often want the doctors to wave the wand and cure things in 30 minutes.  It doesn't happen that way, but patience with health issues is difficult.

Hi Twofootjim!

Welcome to the forums!!        Welcome

It just started to snow here in southern Ontario an hour ago. We were supposed to have had snow starting last Sunday, but fortunately it held off. We have a snow cleaning contract that starts on November 15th. How serendipitous!

Please tell us about your modelling. It doesn't matter if you have a layout or not, but if you do have one, why not post some pictures? I've been on the forums for 16 years and I still don't have a finished layout thanks mostly to back problems.

Cheers!!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Kevin, that church has an unusual roof on the steeple.  I can't quite tell if it's a round roof or an octagonal one.  Neat picture.

John,

Everything about that church was unusual.

It is located outside of Hobart, Indiana, but it looks like it should be in Georgia. It even has pine trees.

There is no entrance to the church from the roadway that I could find, no parking lot, and not even a walkway up to the door.

I saw it from the road, stopped, and walked about 100 feet into the woods to get that picture.

I looked at the original resoltion image, and I cannot tell if the steeple roof is square or octagonal. Interesting.

The first of the Ducati 900SS motorcycles were somewhat unreliable. The problems were generally sorted by 1977, though any self-respecting owner, who could afford it, replaced the factory mufflers with Conti mufflers and the standard carbs with 40mm Dell’Ortos which bought the Dukes engine almost back to race specs. Power, speed, and handling aside, I really loved the NOISE!!

Good morning diners.  Zoe, loaded scrambled eggs and an english muffin please.

I'm begining to lose faith in GE holiday lights.  In case you don't remember, I had a string on the roof light fully, but fail to pass power out the end plug to the next string.  Didn't catch it until I was two strings later and getting ready to hang the final string.  Pulled the offending string down, did some rearranging, and all was fine.  Haven't turned the lights on since.  Last night I got the go ahead from my wife to light everything up as others are beginning to as well.  Something told me to check everything again and sure enough another string failed the same way!  The first string was really annoying, but I could mark it up as possibly being a 10 year old string.  The one that failed last night is a year old! Angry  Same issue: fully lights, but no power going out the female plug on the end.  Luckily, the offending connection on this one was right by a gutter downspout so I could sneak a cord up the gutter to the strings without power and get them on that way.  I'm not confident my roof lights are going to make it through the season, but we shall see.  It would be one thing if it were only a couple strings on a low roof, but I've got 10 or 11 strings up and the peaks of my roof are over 30 feet in the air.  I busted apart the female plug on one of my old parts strings to see if it was a simple replacement, but no.  There is a small pc board with a large resistor and a couple other bits in there.  Might have to pony up for commercial quality lights for the future if this continues.

I can't stop quickly or take sharp turns on ice no matter what SUV I have

In college, we had a rare college snow day as we had a massive storm come through the night before.  I went out for lunch with a bunch of friends and we were basically the only ones in the restaurant (the roads were horrible) and some of the bored staff were sitting in a booth by ours.  One of them was complaining about how slow people were driving and saying how he could do 55 just fine.  We all commented about stupid SUV drivers not thinking about being able to stop.  His manager then let a couple of them go home as they weren't needed and we watched him walk out in to the parking lot and get into a car about the size of a Plymouth Horizon.  Maybe smaller.  We were stunned, not that he could make it go 55 in those conditions, but that he thought it was fine to do so in that vehicle no less.  Frightening.

That may be Dave, but it is still one of the neatest concepts I've seen and I'm sure I'm not the only one that hopes you can make some progress on it sooner than later.

Happy Wednesday everyone!
