I cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought
Good Morning Diners. Flo can I have some coffee and raisin toast please?
Busy weekend. I did a mini remodel of our upstairs bath (paint, new light, new medicine cabinet) and got the Christmas lights hung up on the roof. Watched the Michigan game Saturday night, and some of the Chiefs game last night.
When I put the lights up I always plug each strand in on the ground prior to taking them up the ladder. Same thing this year. I also have them on while I do this so I can keep an eye out for problems. Now, most of the way through the sun was hitting where I was just right that made it really hard to see if the leds were on. No biggie. Never had a problem before, assuming I checked them ahead of time. I was a string short as I had to cannibalize one for parts. Got a new string from the store, plugged it in to finish up the last section, and nothing. Then I realize the string I was plugging into wasn't on. Neither was the string before that one. It appeared I had blown the fuses somehow in one of the strings. Or course, that plug end was 20'+ feet in the air. Got new fuses in the plug and still nothing. Turns out the string before it, which was lit up the whole way, wasn't sending power out the end. Never saw that one before! I ended up having to replace the string that is the most difficult one to access out of the 10 strings that go on the roof. Figures. At least I got the wife to hang the lights on the deck, fence, and tree. That just leaves the downstairs windows and garage doors for me to do to have everything ready for the holidays. Given our upcoming schedule of events, thats a good thing!

Good morning, everyone. Bacon, eggs, and black coffee for me, please.
I got up an hour early this morning. I wonder how long it will take Daisy the Dachshund to adjust to the new time and let me sleep a little longer. It's been a year and a half since the vet told us she had only a few days left.

I think there's a name for that kind of situation! By the way, the Chiefs game was exciting all the way to the last play of overtime.
Another day of nothing on the calendar, so it's more bridge work on the layout. I think I will just run some trains for a while before I get to work.
David, I'll save that bottle of brew for later today!
Have a great day, everyone.

When we got our Siamese kitten, the vet said she was sick and only had about a month. Three years later, she's sitting here cleaning her feet, happy as a cat can be. She and the other cat, Whiskey, are enjoying the nature series we're watching. It's about penguins.

Chloe, white bread toasted with butter and a cup of black coffee for me this morning.
I made great progress on the master bedroom last night, but I'll bet my neighbors were none too happy with the miter saw and shop vac at three in the morning.

Living the dream.
Three in the morning ias a purrfectly wonderful time to start work.
Staying up past 8AM is another issue.

Kevin, I just watched a BBC mystery where a guy got his head bashed in with a hammer for doing the same thing.

I better keep it quiet tonight!
3:00 a.m. is about the time I'm preparing to get up, and about the time my wife is getting ready for bed.

I quit working on the house at 2:30 AM tonight. No miter saw or shop vacuum tonight, but the SDS hammer drill was working hard.
Benvenuti in Italia. A large cappuccino please, Flo.

up831This month we're in Italy. Never been there and no burning desire to go; however, I'll happily read about other diner's adventures and information about it. Since I went gluten free about nine years ago Italian food isn't even an attraction

Good morning everyone.
Chloe, I feel like starting the day with a piece of your cheesecake and coffee.
I am tired and sore this morning. Bending 1/2" EMT tubing turned out to be more of a learning curve than I expected. I used to fabricate all kinds of fuel lines from 5/16" steel tubing. I thought this would be the same, but it is not.
Just similar.

Well, that worked, so I'll try some more. I'm getting the dreaded '403' message trying to post this morning.
We're headed out of town for a funeral. I'll check back in tonight when we get home. Have a good day, fellow modelers.
Good evening Diners. A busy day today.
Now time for .
The tomatoes have been roasted. Now to mash into the Mozzarella Cheese and wrap around two pieces of Cod. Oven bake with Chunky English Chips and add Mushy Peas.
Good evening, diners.
Tonight we drove home. Out here on the plains, towns and houses are few and far apart, with the result that the countryside is very dark.
With harvest going on, one of the most impressive sights is the combines picking corn all night long. This will go on day and night for several weeks. Driving down the highway, you can see these huge machines with very bright lights, slowly moving through fields for several miles on each side of the road.
Very impressive sight:
My wife went shopping today and bought a new stove. So ... in one week, what started with a dishwasher that needed replacing, she also bought a new refrigerator, a new TV, and a new stove.
I don't dare point out the cost for these things because she usually has a comment about the price of my railroad hobby. I just nod my head, smile, and write the check.
Have a good evening tonight. I hope the waitresses can get some tip money -- it seems like the number of customers is a little low today.
Hi Everyone,
John: That is one neat picture of harvest at night. Not that many people ever get to see that, and some who do might not understand what they're looking at. No, it's not aliens abducting cattle! I remember my late uncle used to run into the night during wheat harvest. This was back before air conditioned cabs and everything was in the open air full of dust and heat. He'd be out there cutting away on one combine at night with one headlight on the cab. This was on an old Massey-Harris combine with an under 25' header. Nowadays the headers are around 35' and larger. The pic has nothing to do with Italy, but thanks for the associative memories.
Today my wife and I took the granddaughters to the Arboritum and then to Chuck E Cheese's for pizza. It was the first time I'd ever been to one. The place offered gluten free crust, so I had pizza. Ehh! I've had better. Since I was sick last summer I've been watching my intake of dairy as well as being gluten free. Fortunately, I'm not celiac, but I eat as little wheat as possible (wheat is in everything) and I've cut back on much of the dairy. It helps.
North Brit: Florence would be an interesting place to visit because it was the birthplace of the renassiance. It has been speculated that the renaissance painters used camera obscuras to make their paintings. Possible I suppose.

Sugar Cane and Oranges are being harvested in Florida right now. Sugar Cane harvesting is a 24 hour magnificent sight to see.
The fields need to be burned before the harvesters can go in. It is amazing at night.

I can't say for other places, but in Florida, they serve pitchers of beer at Chuck E. Cheese. I have only been inside of one twice, once in Pensacola and once in Tampa. Both times drunken arguments broke out.
Not a place I would take my kids back to.
Benvenuti in Pisa. We;lcome to Pisa.

Good Morning all. Chloe, a coffee to go please.
Just checking in to say Hi and provide a little business for the staff. Not much news from my end. The videos David keeps posting sure make me want to go back to Italy. Incredible place. Still, there are others places we want to see too that should come first.
Cheers everyone.
Good morning, diners. Black coffee this morning. I was up early again with a four-footed, demanding, barking member of this family.
I'm heading outside to take care of Oak tree leaves. It's very windy, and that's helping bring them down. It also means another trip to the roof to clear the gutters.
Another friend died last night, which means another funeral. It's probably my imagination, but I don't recall attending this many funerals in such a short time. My wife says the people are all going home for Christmas.

Have a good day, everyone. If any of you enjoy cleaning up leaves, I have an open guest bedroom at our house, and I'll cook breakfast for you.
I woke up today to the beautiful sound of a debris removal truck taking the trash off of our street from Hurricane Ian.

Awesome, now all the storm debris has been removed. I should not have to worry about cleaning up from another storm until... when... oh yeah...
Just so nobody thinks I've gone to the Big Roundhouse in the Sky or that hot, smelly trainroom down below, I will be on the Bourbon Trail next week and probably not online much. I'm the designated driver as far as bourbon goes, because hard booze just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure there will be lots of new draft beers for me at dinner, though.
Griddle is cold, beer keg empty and no bartender tonight? The diner is looking more like an Amtrak diner every day

Good evening everyone.
All we had weather-wise today was a gentle breeze and sporatic light showers.
I hope it stays this way through tomorrow.
