Good morning to all of you.  Haven't gotten to the dinner for a while. My bride ended up going to the hospital a week ago.  She was very confused. You know how busy the ER is when you see the doctor examining patients in the hallway. Apparently it was a bladder infection.  They tested for a bunch of other things and couldn't find anything else. Got her home after 5 days.

Thanksgiving was just the two of us and the dog.  I made the turkey dinner Thursday. Seems like a lot for two.  Dog did enjoy her slice of turkey.  We're going to be eating leftovers all winter.

Warm for this time of year,  35 F. Already this morning. That's 2 C. for those of you smart enough to use metric.

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.

Hi gang!

It's getting close to the end of the month so we need to choose a new location for the Diner.

So far there have been two suggestions (sorry if have missed anyone's ideas). The first suggestion was to continue our European theme by choosing another country on the Continent. The other suggestion was to attach the Diner to various snow trains. I'm going to stay neutral for now because I like both ideas.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

By the way, thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Italian rail theme. I do think that David (NorthBrit) deserves special mention for his numerous contributions. Thanks David!

Cheers!!

As for next month,  I go for the majority.

Hi Everyone,

Just finished watching the illustrious Kansas Jayhawks lose to their archrivals the Kansas State Wildcats in football.  Congrats to the cats because they're now in the big XII championship game against Texas Christian, or TCU.  Ok, I'm a little disappointed cause the Hawks couldn't pull off the upset, but were talking football here, so that's kind of expected.  I don't know how it would've affected the championship game had the Hawks won.  They'd have probably just been spoilers.  If this gets top o' the page, pizza and beer on me.  Good college age fare.

Less is more,...more or less!

Christmas snow trains!!! Wot is this thing???!!!Huh?

Yes, a big thanks to David for his hosting efforts, though to be honest, I haven’t been able to keep up!

I have had a very good weekend though! It’s been a very wet and mostly warm spring, the summer vegetables have shot up, but so have the weeds, and until yesterday I thought I was going to have to get a sheep in to take care of the lawns!!

But the lawns are done, a fair few weeds have been pulled, the tomato plants have been tied up, I’ve caught up on all my work paper work and got a head start on my 2 monthly “Goods and Services Tax” calculations!!

I even managed to rearrange the cobwebs and dust on my modelling table!!!

While we are still in Italy, here’s an Italian Railways Cab Forward, that preceded it’s more famous Southern Pacific counterpart by 10 years.

There’s even been a model…

Christmas snow trains!!! Wot is this thing???!!!

Come on Bear! You have to admit that there is a certain satisfaction to watching a big locomotive punching through heavy snow drifts at speed! I love watching rotary snow plows in action too (who would have guessed?!?).

I'm leaning towards the snow train theme for December, and then perhaps we can return to Europe in January. What say all?

Cheers!!

I second that! Nothing better.

Just about to head out for a grocery pickup. We are still ordering on line. Don't want to risk a store right now as no one is wearing masks and few have had booster shots.

Running the Northern. U2g's were built in 1942 so are modern steam with Boxspok drivers and Vandy tenders. It has a QSI decoder that works fine but has a very limited number of sounds. I won't replace it as there is a board under the cab along with a speaker that apparently is a nightmare to remove.

Have another run to make today to Home Depot to pickup an order I placed on line.

Time for tea,

CN Charlie

We had a neat thing last night, One of our Blues friends made his debut on The Grand Ole Opry last night. We would have gone to hear him in person, but I was on call and could not be 2 hours away from work. So we listened to him on WSM on my 1941 Philco. He was in second half of the show. He like everyone else except for Marty Stewart only played 2 songs. But he was real good. WSM will put it up on archive prob later this week.

So far it looks like the 'trains in snow' theme is the more popular choice so I'm going to throw my vote behind that too. However, we are still open to other suggestions, both for December and for future months, so keep your ideas coming.

I would be happy to move the Diner but, if someone else wants to give it a try, please speak up. It's not complicated. It only takes a few minutes.

Cheers!!

Got it done with 12 minutes to spare before the Canucks game. Had time for a good pour of scotch and to bring the power up in the hockey watchin room. My wife says I am just a big kid. I then reminded her I still play with trains.Laugh

Christmas snow trains!!! Wot is this thing???!!!

Come on Bear!

The thing is Dave, that Christmas is summertime here, and besides the New Zealand Railways never had the need to own a snow plough of any description! That said, Snowy Christmas trains is fine by me.

I’ve been lucky enough to have got to ride some great Italian motorcycles. A Vespa scooter does not fit that bill, but we can’t leave Italy before acknowledging a classic Italian.

Good morning Diners.  Some cheeses, meats and breads please, Brunhilda.  A large cappuccino as well.

Trains in snow for December sounds good.  I'll find a few European ones.  Big Smile

As for January?  Continue the European theme?

Good Morning Diners.  Flo, a large coffee in a Canadian Pacific mug please.

For those that recall my recent failures with Christmas lights, I had another one crap out just before Thanksgiving with the same failure of the female plug.  I've reached out to GE regarding it, but no response as of yet.

Lots of catching up to do on the forums as I was mostly away from the computer over the long weekend.  Hope everyone is doing well.

LaughLaugh  A place in Superior Wisconsin had the same situation as in this photo from Oshkosh Ed.

Reminds me of the most wild and crazy benders of my youth.  Mike had called me the next day while still laying in bed around noon.  He asked, "Do you remember driving that Green Machine parked down at the yard home last night?"  Laughing of course the reply was "Yeah Right!"  He said, No!, you even got out and threw a switch track on the way back.  A rude awakening pulling the window curtain back to see it parked in front of the drivewayHuh?...Whistling...Kidding of courseLaugh

Although there's plenty of truth to that story.  My ex-wife's (freinds of her father's), saw a train parked in front of his driveway.  They had put him together a while with that one the day after he had gotten way too drunk the night before.

Oshkosh Wisconsin, famous for Oshkosh B'Gosh, quality children's bib overall jeans from the late 1800's.  They sold to Carter's in 2005 for almost a third of a billion dollars.  Do believe they still carry the same label.

My friend Jeff from my childhood had a Moto Guzzi Bear.  I remember getting a smile on my face, recalling memories, when you posted one of those earlier this month.  We used ride on the dirt trails down by the railroad tracks.  That bike of his was quite old and beat up, but remember having a hard time keeping up to him on my Honda.

Yeah, Wonder where Good Ol' Henry has been lately as well?

We can do nothing about those ads. They are not sold by nor controlled by anyone at Kalmbach. Those are Google ads that are selected by Google's inscrutable algorithms. Click the X to hide them, select the reason why you hid them, and you should see fewer ads like that. Eventually. Supposedly.

Also, it's rare that I read the Forums any more. If you have something to bring to my attention, file an abuse report or e-mail me. But remember, I can do nothing about ads.

Good Morning,

Not bad day here with temps of 32F but a few flurries.

Was up early as wife had a doc appointment. We were there at 6:30 as he is in his office before 6. He leaves at 10:30. I got the flu shot.

I was wondering about Henry too. Hope he is ok.

In the past 4 months I have put 620 miles on the car. Talk about going nowhere.

Not looking forward to Christmas. It is a very stressful time for my wife. The last good one we had was 2007, the last one with her father. 2008 was good too as I took her to Paris as an escape. Nothing like Paris at Christmas especially staying at a hotel across the street from the Louvre. That hotel was in the first Jason Bourne movie.

Time for more coffee.

I have always resisted using an ad blocker here, because the train-related ads are not offensive and bring revenue to Kalmbach.  However, if Kalmbach has ceded control of its web pages to the likes of Google, I have no qualms about using an ad blocker.
