Living the dream.
I'll join you with that drink, Kevin.
We just got word that our grandkids are probably not coming -- sick.
That means I can relax this evening -- give me two of those bottles.

Dang, forgot my fishing pole
Tomorrow is Babe the Blue Ox. We didn't get here till 3:00 because we stopped everywhere on the way up. I told Judy to relax, after 50 it's your birthday for 3 days and Babe will still wish you Happy Birthday tomorrow.
Have a great evening gentleman

Yeah, the girlfriend had her taste and smell blotted out by Covid last full. It's mostly back, but now she won't eat fried eggs, only scrambled.
I had a couple of beers, Evolution #3 on tap, and a bunch of tacos at a local bar for lunch. I don't usually have beer for lunch, but the GF is out and the weather is nice. Somehow, the big TV at the bar was showing hockey. It was the collegiate women's final so it must have been months old, but hockey is way better that the garbage sports usually on TV. I also saw a strikeout double play in Little League baseball. Outstanding throw by the catcher and put out by the infielder.
I played dorm league intramural softball in college. In skill level, it was several steps down from Little League. But, after warmups every inning, I could absolutely nail the throw to second every time, so no one tried to steal second against me. In one game, someone tried. The second baseman wasn't paying attention and didn't even try to get to the base. But, my throw was atrocious and went right to him. He caught the ball with a surprised look in his eyes, and held it as the runner, as uncoordinated as we were, ran into him for the out. That's what softball was like for a bunch of klutzy scientists and engineers.

Oh Yeah.... hey Brother Lion (and others), try this one I found! It hit the core of my Musicianship's delight!

We'll get there sooner or later!

Interesting you should say that.
Egg whites taste absolutely terrible to me now. When I eat eggs now, they have to be scrambled.
I have fried eggs every morning for breakfast -- they're my favorite meal.
You guys are scaring me.
I haven't had covid yet -- if I get so I don't like eggs, I'm not sure what I'll eat.
The World Is A Beautiful Place
I had a very non-productive day today.
Next Friday the A/C guys are supposed to be here to fix all the problems with my mixer box. Then I and put up the new drywall in the living room ceiling.
After that I can finish the living room completely... and then on to finish the actual master bedroom.
But for now, tonight, I think I am off to bed.
Nice place.

That place is one of the most magical places I have ever visited. It is in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Montana. It is part of a replica of a mid 1800s cattle ranch.
To access it, you need to walk down about a 1 mile trail off of a dirt road. Once there, you have been transported back to the 1800s. No power lines, no noise, nothing but the ranch.
It is set up like a time capsule. Everything is laid out like it could have been 170 years ago. You can touch everything. The old workshop just fascinated me.
We spent about four hours there exploring everything. The worst part was when a park ranger rode up on an ATV to check on us. It ruined the illusion.

I just solved 100 Wordles in a row!
I change how I like my eggs every so often. My current preference is for eggs over easy, medium. One of the celebrity chefs had a tip on making fried eggs; he placed a couple of pats of butter in the egg white and seasoned with black pepper. Does make a difference, definitely gives the egg whites some flavor.
I'll be checking in frequently this weekend as I am in the office. I do have some work, but not two days worth.
Good morning, diners. It's a beautiful day on the prairie. I'm on my third 16 oz. cup of coffee this morning. I don't think I'll have to take a nap this afternoon.
On the railroad, I'm starting to plan the layout of a small town. I have to learn that not every square inch of layout has to be filled with something.
The Nebraska, Kansas, & Colorado RR has over 500 miles of track, hauling mostly grain, fertilizers, and coal. The coal is delivered to the Gentleman Coal power plant in western Nebraska.
I don't believe the railroad has a specific color or design for their locomotives, but it seems that most have a blue color, and carry the name of the OmniTrax, the railroad's corporate owner:
Have a great Saturday!
Good evening Diners. The grandchildren have all gone home after their holiday on a local farm cottage. Peace reigns. A large whisky please, Zoe.
TF. Condolences on your loss. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
JohnYork1. Glad to hear the new layout has begun. Off course there will be grain, fertiliser and coal trains, but do not forget the smaller businesses need supplies. Then there will be boxcars bringing foodstuff to printing paper. It all brings variety to operations.

I've heard that Diner pages six and seven can be a hurdle, but this is crazy: first post in twelve hours by my figures. Must all be chowing down on thirds and fourths of York1 John's roast beef sandwiches (from the top o' Page 5) - with Kevin's J.W. (top o' this one) to wash 'em down!

Had a great day at work. We had four extremely difficult customers at the counter, but they all ended up with other people and not me!
I will call that a win.
I am off to bed. My wife did all of the laundry while I was at work, and there are clean sheets on the bed. I love sleeping on fresh clean sheets.
Good morning Diners. A large coffee please, Chloe.
The Great North of Scotland Railway. became part of the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923. A fascinating fact was that it was separated from the LNER at Aberdeen. Aberdeen was a Caledonian Railway Station (then London Midland & Scottish Railway) The LNER had running rights to Aberdeen.

Here is a film circa 1963 of the GNoSR. It is 8mm film. Sorry about the quality, but it is amazing that although LMS & LNER became British Railways in 1948 the film shows locomotives and rolling stock still in LMS & LNER liveries.

Good morning, diners. Just coffee for me, Flo, I'll get my Sunday donuts later.
One year ago, our vet told us Daisy the Dachshund had only days, maybe a few weeks, to live. Here it is one year later -- she's still going strong and running around like a puppy.
It's a busy day today, so I'll check in later to see if we can get past the page number plague.
Here's one for Lion:

Good morning everybody! Chloe, I am going to start the day with just a large cup of black coffee, thank you.
John: The DMVW has a very handsome paint scheme. Thanks for the pictures.
David: Thank you for all the information you have been sharing.
It is Sunday, so work starts early today.
I will be back later tonight.
SeeYou190John: The DMVW has a very handsome paint scheme. Thanks for the pictures
Yes, it does. It reminds me vewry much of the old LIRR Paint scheme.
Good afternoon diners.
Zoe - A nice slice of that apple pie on the counter there please. Thanks.
Shortline discussion - First, I will share the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad.
They run on ex-Erie rails from Meadville PA east to Hornell NY, and a ex-Erie branch from Meadville south to Oil City, and on ex-PRR rails from Machias NY south to Driftwood Pa.
They have a *mostly* Alco/MLW roster. Their newest locomotives are a set of orphaned ex-CSX AC6000's rebuilt to 4400HP. They operate almost exclusively on the "Keating Summit" line, from Olean NY south to Driftwood PA, but I did snag a couple in transit from Meadville.

WNYP 6004 by Richard Woodworth, on Flickr
(I know, 6004 was wrong side of the tracks light wise, but it snuck up on me while I was running a delivery somewhere for w*rk, so I took what I could get.)
They took over that assignment from a fleet of MLW "big-6's" that were starting to show their age.
WNYP 637 & 638 Smoke Show by Richard Woodworth, on Flickr
But I much prefer the ALCO/MLW's. They are used 99% of the time on the Meadville line, which is closer to me.
ME-1 by Richard Woodworth, on Flickr
This is much more typical of a Meadville line lash-up, or even just 2 4-axle ALCO/MLW units lately, like the following pic.
WNYP ME-1 05/10/22 by Richard Woodworth, on Flickr
One really neat feature on their line, located in Columbus PA (near the NY/PA border east of Corry) is a passing siding, a portion that Conrail left the 2nd ex-Erie main in place at. When CR single tracked the line, they chose the "newer" main to be their main, and removed most of the "old" main. In Columbus, they left a long segment in place, to serve as a passing siding. WNY&P also has that track. (Although they now use it as a storage track.)
The interesting point - It serves as the old "There is a prototype for everything" example.
Siding Prototype for everything 1 by Richard Woodworth, on Flickr
Because the "old" main had a thicker ballast profile, in Columbus Pa on the old Erie mainline, the siding now sits higher than the actual main! So the next time some rivet counter states "Your layout is wrong. Sidings should sit lower than the mainline." you can inform them "Not always!"
The other kinda cool fact, there used to be a Western New York & Pennsylvania Railway, that got merged into the PRR. One of the remaining original WNY&P Railway lines is the new WNY&P Railroad's line from Machias NY south to Driftwood PA. The new WNY&P Railroad started with only the ex-Erie line from Hornell to Meadville. Several years later, NS leased the ex-PRR (original WNY&P Railway) line to the WNY&P Railroad. So, it took a while, but the WNY&P RR acquired original WNY&P Rwy trackage.
Layout Progress - Section 1 of the benchwork is up! It is over-built, but I'm fine with that.
Here is a mock-up test of the 24" turnback on the first end, just to check clearances and the amount of "extra" along the edge.
Radius Test on new layout by Richard Woodworth, on Flickr
I'm adding 1" foam, then trackwork. Then I can begin building the new extension off the opposite end. (It will also be over-built, but again, I'm ok with that.)
Hope all are well, best wishes to those not, and all enjoy the day!
EDIT: I can't get the map to work right...

I've been working on a list of stuff to get done, biggest time consumer of which was working on repainting an ancient mini-fridge for my daughter's dorm room. It's might be old, but it still gets cold. It was a rather unattractive dark brown. It's well on it's way to being Michigan State green & white. Perfect for a dorm.
Otherwise, I've spent the day tending to some baby back ribs in the smoker. They'll be ready in about 1/2 hour or so, if anyone is hungry.

Good morning Diners. A coffee on the go please, Janie.
A rare video of train movement at various points along the little used Ludgershall Branch Line between Andover and Ludgershall MOD depot. This line used to be part of the Swindon, Marlborough and Andover railway formerly operated by the Midland and Southwestern Junction Railway. When the line was closed in the 60’s, just this short branch was left to service the MOD depot and Tidworth Garrison. It’s approximately 7 miles in length. On March 18th 2021, GBRF 66706 takes a single wagon from MOD Kineton and deposits in the Ludgershall depot. Unusually, the old abandoned Ludgershall station run round loop is used to go behind the wagon and shunt it into the depot - wagon first. I believe this is the first video of use of the Ludgershall station loop. Video was captured outbound at Redpost Lane Andover, then at the end of the Ludgershall station loop, then from the MOD depot gates. On the return, at the line crossing behind Ludgershall COOP and finally at a road bridge in Weyhill. Hope you enjoy.

Good Morning Everyone. Janie, a large coffee in a Finger Lakes Railway mug. I'm running out of short lines I've heard of, so I might have to go back to Class I RR mugs soon.
Well, the ribs turned out awesome. I was planning on saving some of mine to bring to work for my lunch, but that didn't happen.
The draft for my fantasy football league is this Friday and I am woefully unprepared. Pretty sure I know how my free time is going to be spent this week. I'm in a league at work that plays mostly for bragging rights, but the digs we get in on each other week to week make it a blast and at times, brutal!
Hope everyone has a good day, and to those diners who have been quiet, pop in and let us know you are okay.
