Good morning, everyone. Bacon, eggs, and coffee please, Chloe.
It's another hot and humid day. I walk my 2½ miles at 6:00 a.m. (or earlier) so it's not quite so bad. The humidity is the worst.
At church, I talked to some new members who had retired and moved to our town from Phoenix. They complained that even though the temperatures were higher there, they hated the humidity here. I told them that once the irrigation starts, the humidity shoots up and will stay that way for several months. We are surrounded by thousands of square miles of fields with pivot irrigation systems spraying water into the air.
Nebraska Northwestern RR has about 12 miles of track, and connects with BNSF. Their track is mainly old Chicago and North Western track on the old 'Cowboy Line'. They run mostly grain. They also have a a working turntable and use an old roundhouse for servicing. They also can store cars for other railroads.
I hope those of you suffering the after-effects of covid can get some relief. I don't know why, but I have been exposed quite a few times and I haven't gotten it yet. I expect that when I least expect it, I will catch it.

I am feeling OK today. I went to U-Haul and rented a truck, then I cleaned out one of my storage lockers. Tomorrow I am going to Orlando to help my baby move into her new room.

Looking back, I should have pulled up and saved the track and just bought all new pink foam and begun again.

Wife feels better and had a negative COVID test. Looks like the family is keeping its record of not getting COVID through these times. Pretty lucky, but we've all been fully vaxxed too.
Kendallville, Indiana is home to the Kendallville Terminal Railway. A really short short line of only 1.1 miles long. It interchanges with the NS to serve the Kraft marshmallow/caramels plant. Its my understanding that the plant and railroad have been there for decades unchanged, since the plant remains one of Kraft's more efficienct and competitive plants. It used to make those little individually wrapped caramel squares.
Its a pretty popular little railroad in the shortline/modelable railroad world. It must have the highest percentage of photgraps per mile (one) and loco (one) of almost any railroad, LOL.
It gets a cut of several corn syrup cars and covered hopper cars of sugar delivered to the small yard once a week. From there, KTR's SW8 switches the plant each day.

Doughless, I have to say thank you for posting that video. Brought a huge smile to my face! The little red & yellow SW8 was apparently the one and only locomotive on the old Ludington & Northern from about 1952 until it was sold off in the late 90's, and the only reason I know this is it is still carrying it's original paint! So cool!

Good morning everyone from the slice of Pennsylvania that is the of the Strasburg Railroad, hoping all are well.
Northbrit, the kid in me is thrilled seeing this! I loved Thomas The Tank Engine as a little kid and I know I'd have loved this so much back then. Adult me thinks its pretty great too.
I've been trying to get in a little better shape lately so I started swimming more. My local YMCA, which I've been a member of off and on for years, has a sign at the pool saying 72-lengths equal a mile so I'm trying to do at least 24-laps a day. Some days I do more than that but I'm not able to go every day. Still good to go any day I can and I'm going to the gym more in the last two weeks than I'd gone in the last several months.
My family got kittens recently! Someone from the hospital my mom works at found a pair of tiny gray kittens and we elected to adopt them. They're about six weeks old now, plus they're super fun and playful. The two of them are a fraction fo one adult cat.
On the MR front, the shelf layout has come along a lot. I recently did roads and lane markers. I'm waiting on signs to be shipped to me from the manufacturer (JL Innovative Design) I'll post pics in a separate thread soon.

Another difficult day of retirement. The difficulty is deciding what I want to do.
I have to buy a plane ticket today. I don't like doing that -- it seems every time I do, I find a cheaper flight the next day.
Our county fair is starting today. When I worked, I always made it a point to go to the fair to see the work that some students had on display. The 4-H 'ers work hard with their animals and projects, so it's always fun to see them. It's a little bit of an old-time country fair feel that kids in some bigger cities don't get. However, with the heat, I doubt we will spend much time there or even go at all.
My daughters gave my wife a subscription to BritBox, a streaming service for all the British shows. I am watching it a lot more than my wife. I love the mysteries they have. Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, Midsomer Murders, Morse, Father Brown, and lots of others.
The problem with these programs is that they are very involved. You have to pay attention to them. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a Murder She Wrote or a Matlock -- not much thinking.
The Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad has about 600 miles of track, mainly in South Dakota and Minnesota, but with some branches into Wyoming and Nebraska. Mostly grain and ethanol.

heh, heh, heh You got that one right! You are talking to a New York State Master Guernsey Showman way back when. For the showmanship class a kid will spend hundreds of hours just with that one cow! My first showmanship cow was so in tune with me I could tie the halter strap up and just let it hang. She would follow exactly what I wanted her to do just from my body movements! I never had an animal that was able to go the the US National Show in waterloo Iowa, so the NYS Guernsey Breeders Assn. made me a herdsman for the state Guernsey Herd. I got to show the animals from the NYS herd out there. That was a WOW couple weeks. We traveled from Corning NY to Waterloo Iowa by train. The 3 herdsman rode in the 40' NYC Boxcare right along with the cattle. That was one of the experiences that turned me into a Train Buff!
OK... How about a couple photos of the Short Line where I live. That would be the Finger Lakes Railway. Some wintertime ones!

The host of a layout I was visiting had a Queen Mary he was offering for what he paid — $65! At the time I wasn't all that keen on PRR models and passed. Like you, Kevin, I'm not about to shell out over $300 for one.
I'm glad you're happy with your new arrivals, Alvie. Due to various rescues we're up to ten cats at our little domicile. Fun little critters to have around. Never a dull moment!

Yesterday, after hours of working, I finally got a locomotive working. I did a complete reset of the decoder several times. Electronics is one of many things that I know nothing about.
The Omaha, Lincoln & Beatrice Railway is a shortline that operates in Lincoln, Nebraska. It has 2½ miles of track inside Lincoln, moving lumber, cement, and farm products.

Thanks for posting that great picture of the boats on the gondolas. F&C makes CRR of NJ gondolas like those that are near identical to a class of Reading gondolas. I'd built a pair. I had to show my dad as he's a Coast Guard vet and went to USCG basic training in New Jersey in 1970. He said that wouldn't have been unusual for USCG boats to be sent to places suffering floods like that.
