I still did not sleep well last night. I did watch the entire Netflix series You Don't Know Me, which was kind if interesting at first, but the story fell apart before the big reveal.

Living the dream.
It's Friday! When working in school, Friday's were always my best day. I almost never had issues with students or teachers on Fridays. The last several years before I retired, we even had casual Fridays, and I didn't wear a suit. The only days in over 40 years I didn't put on a tie.
It's still morning here, so I'll have bacon, eggs, and black coffee, Chloe. Of course, I'll have that no matter the time of day. Tonight for supper I'm making Potatoes O'Brien, which is normally for breakfast.
While walking the trail by the creek this morning, I came across this large turtle. It was a little over a foot in diameter, and was laying eggs. Pretty neat:

We had a cat who would lift the lid off the fish tank and get in. He then began 'plodging' up and down to the annoyance of the fish. After a little while he would get out. Water everywhere and 'No' he did not replace the lid.

I spent the day on the cricket field 'just joining in'. My shoulder is hurting somewhat, so I couldn't bat or bowl. I am having some physio treatment shortly. Hopefully it works.

Water Level RouteWe have a new temporary semi-member of our household, starting two days ago. My daughter and wife found a baby blue jay that had fallen out of it's nest and try as they might, the parents couldn't get it back up where it belonged. Leaving it on the lawn would have meant certain death to the night prowlers that come around, so my daughter put it in a small box and brought it in. She feeds it crushed berries in the morning and evening and it sleeps in the box in our kitchen. During the day, the box gets placed outside on a shelf on the fence, not far from it's original nest. Its Blue Jay parents tend to it during the day bringing it various things to eat as birds do. Pretty neat dynamic going on to take care of this cute little thing!

That is neat! It sounds like the baby might have a chance if the parents are still trying to look after it.

My wife isn't doing very well. It doesn't take much to set her off and it seems to be getting worse. She has been getting help weekly for the last 4 years.

Funny story of the cat in the aquarium David Reminds me of my customer Phil had two Maine Coon cats. My favorite was Rastus because he was such a character.
I had put a touch sensor faucet in the kitchen after I laid the granite counter tops. It didn't take long for the cats to figure out that faucet. They loved playing in the water and I would imagine Phil's water bill had to have gone up
Hope your shoulder is feeling better. Those can hurt. I have a rotary cuff that acts up sometimes. I injured it a long time ago out of my own stupidity. I don't know why I decided it was a good idea for a 40 year old man to arm wrestle a 25 year old kid. PJ was a stocky guy and a good worker. I should have known better that day. I heard the tear sound when I lost in more ways than one Hope you and your Granddaughter have a fun day.

Mike, let us know how the bird makes out. It is encouraging that the parent birds are still feeding it. It must be fun watching your daughter feed it. That reminds me of the old TV show "Andy Griffith", when his son Opie fed the birds, but finally had to let them go. That's one of my favorite episodes of any TV show.
Ed, have fun with the cats. Be sure to keep them away from our yard. My wife goes nuts when neighbor cats stake out our bird feeders.
Charlie, I'm thinking of you with your wife's issues. Without giving any details, I can identify a little with what you're going through.

Dave, you mentioned your father was sent overseas in WWII. Did he make it through the war unharmed? My father went through France into Germany. I can't imagine what those guys went through.

I accidentally turned on my stove one day and did not realize it. I found out when I brought in some bags of groceries and set them on the stove. They immediately began to melt.
What a mess.

I ended up falling asleep about 6:00 AM, and was awake before 10:00 AM. I feel completely awful.
I never know what page I'm posting on for this thread. I use the Order Descending button to skip all the posts I've already seen and go right to the end. Scrolling would take forever on my steam era Internet service.
Good for anyone who tries to take special care of birds. I found a robin once who was kind of dazed by the side of the road. I put him in a big box and put a wire mesh cover over it, and brought him inside for the night. I took him out the next day and he flew away. Made me feel good.

I live within a few minutes of multiple Super-Wal-Marts, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Grocery Stores, Services, Restaurants, and Convenience Stores.
Still, my wife will find a reason we need to drive to Sarasota for something.

We make our own marmalade... Orange, Cherry, Peach, Rsapberry...
They are all 80% Zuchinni. : ) But they taste just great!

We had a thunder storm this morning with a little hail. That caused a panic to get flower pots protected. I got beaned a few times but luckily no damage.
TF, I love marmalade on toast but am very fussy about the marmalade. Get some Robertson's that comes from Scotland. It is far better than the domestic stuff that I find is far too sweet.
John, we have a problem with a cat too. When we had 2 Westies patroling the yard we never saw a cat. I asked our breeder friends what the dogs would do if they cornered a cat and was told 'kill it'. Luckily that never happened.
Just came back from a grocery run. The fridges are stuffed.
Kevin, Hope you can get some sleep. My wife has problems sleeping too. For her 5 hours is a good night or I should say morning as she rarely goes to bed before 4.
No plans today. I will mow the front if it dries out. Still have a leak from the skylight. I will get some marine silicone and see if that works.

Went out to my wife's grandparents house today to help with a couple things and actually received a saw I was amazingly offered by my wife's uncle. Then I about fell over when he asked if I wanted the planer that was out there too. Progress!
My youngest and I also painted her room this morning. Been doing prep on it all week. Will be nice to have this out of the way. A couple more hours and we can start putting things back in place.
The little blue jay is doing well! Gave us a scare though yesterday. We had set him out in the yard (not in his box, just in the grass) below the nest he fell out of. Now mind you the furthest it's managed to move up to this point was about 15 feet where he fell into one of the basement window wells. He was REALLY clumsy and very unsure of himself moving around. Anyway, I saw the sun was starting to shine on him, and not wanting him/it to get too hot went out and moved it back into the shade. About 30 minutes later my wife asked where it was. It was nowhere in sight. Out we went, hoping it wasn't hurt/dead. Found it about 50 feet away, around the corner of our fence. It figured out how to hop along the ground like adult birds do, and boy was he moving! We snatched him up and found a decent spot in the crotch of a maple tree to put him, not far from the spruce tree his nest had been in. Didn't take long for the parent Jays to find it. Left it out overnight, and saw this morning not only was it still there, but clearly the parents had been through bringing it food. Things are looking good for the little guy!

Here in the U.K. there are a few stories of memories of railways and a time long gone. Britain's Lost Railways.
One begins to remember waiting for a train on a cold Winter's evening. Snow is falling. The dim station lights a blur. The train is not due for another twenty minutes. The Waiting Room beckons. Ah! a roaring fire throwing out heat. One is mesmerised by the crackling of the logs. How close does one go? Is there time to undo the coat?
It is bitterly cold now. The snow is falling fast and furious. The fire has gone out. It stoppped burning, what, fifty years now. The waiting room is still there. I say still there; not the original one built 1849, but some metal monstrosity that has strong plastic sides for windows to see the train arrive. A howling gale blowing through the gap at the bottom freezing the feet.
A couple of buttons are undone. The heat warming the throat and chest. The feet are warm. A feeling of relaxation. Bells ring. It's the Non-Stop Express. A couple of minutes to go.
The local train is in sight. The fleeting memory bubble is burst. Step out of the useless bus style shelter and on to a 'Nodding Donkey'.
Nicely told, David. Having never seen the station, both the picture and the ambiance were vivid. And the transition to the all to often bland present . . .

Today Uncle Butchie called this morning to inform me of the activity at the Train Facility by his house and thought I might be interested to come over for a barbecue and check things out where he said he saw a big steam engine last week.
I Bit.
Apparently Milwaukee Road relics by Broadway or Washington Avenue in Minneapolis.
He told me we're not even supposed to be driving in here. When I shouted at the young kid in the yard where you could see the nose of that steam engine, Butchie got a little nervous and said no John, we're not even supposed to be here.
So young Lance came over to the fence and opening it up and said, come on in guys.

She was a tight fit and I don't even think there was four feet in between the junk off the walls of her. Way too big to step back and see in there.
It was so cool guys, you just had to be there.
Milwaukee Road number 261 fully restored like brand new.
I have more pictures of her. Uncle Butchie is sending me them. Lance said she is booked out for the ride in the fall but he said to ask for him and he will squeeze us in...
P.S. Lance said concrete is like a moisture sponge because it's porous. I knew of that before. They keep the locomotive suspended up off the floor so the seasonal moisture in the cement doesn't eat her

Hi John,
He was not harmed physically but he did suffer some stress from the memories. He was a Navigator Bomber in Lancasters for most of his service term. Although he rarely talked about the war, he did say that the worst part was not the bullets and flack ripping through the plane within inches of him, but seeing the empty seats at breakfast following a night time raid was pretty hard.

I couldn't see what it looked like today from 3 ft away so I'm glad you posted those pictures so I know what that magnificent beauty looks like.
There was a brand new restored Milwaukee Road F7 or F3 in the yard as well. My picture didn't turn out but Uncle Butchie will be sending me his
