A quiet Sunday for us. We did manage to get a chilly walk in this afternoon at 40°F.

Ed, everytime I see something in your posts about Euclid, I have to show my wife.  She grew up there and her father worked for Addressograph.  We are going to try to get there this summer sometime.  She has not been back in 40 years.

I came across this stroll down memory lane for you, John:

Without being a ghoul, I do check the Maine Obituaries, and so I believe that his inclusion to the RIP Track would be premature. To paraphase Mark Twain - "The report of his death was an exaggeration".

Well, that is good to hear. My apologies to Jan. I always enjoy his post, especially hearing about his dogs and fishing. Hope he drops back in sometime.

Speaking of dogs, the wife whipped over to the hospital and X-Rayed the girl. She shows nine possibly ten on X-Ray. Just had it sent over.

Click to enlarge.... Count'em if you can.

I was just going to go hop on the Deere and hail started falling from the sky. Hail is a rare occurrence around here, much like lightning, it happens so seldom, that you stop and look.

Well....  A deep subject!  I have just won something at auction from my church's "One Great Hour of Sharing" auction (Proceeds go to charity - food cupboards, community lunch programs, etc.)  I just won a one half hour helicopter ride for 2.  I know the pilot well (friend from church), and he has owned a helicopter business for many years.  He is considered one of the best around this area so I do feel safe doing this.

I bid on it last year and got out bid at the last second so this time I placed a larger bid with 5 seconds to go.... Smile, Wink & Grin  Last year I was dating a lady whom I planned to take on the ride.  This year I am just starting to chat with a lady who I have no idea whether she would do something like that.  Supposedly if all goes well we will meet for lunch this thursday for the first time.  (Wish me well.)

Did we ever ad Jan (Herringchoker) to the RIP track? He did say his final farewell a while back. The RIP wall will not load for me these days so I can't tell if he was added or not.

Gidday Brent. Just a quick note. Jan and I have spasmodically communicated off Forum for a couple of years and his last message was late September 21. Without being a ghoul, I do check the Maine Obituaries, and so I believe that his inclusion to the RIP Track would be premature.
OK, back to w**k!!!Sigh

Well, the afternoon wind is now howling again.  The worst part is that the tree pollen is out, so the wind is whipping it all into my nose.

I love the Major League Baseball season beginning, but my favorite team is behind 12 - 0 in the third inning.  Sigh

My TV still has the game playing, but I'm able to do a little more layout work with the game this lopsided.

I'm really struggling with the bridges I hope to build.  Right now I've got some temporary bridges in place so that I can run some trains.  I'm not sure of how to begin the new bridges.  I guess the best thing to do is just to jump in.  If I make a mistake, I'll buy more Evergreen and Plastruct pieces.

Have a good Sunday evening.

Good afternoon from the sunny but cool Pacific Rim.

Wife just got back from X-Raying the girl and they see 9 pups on board, she will be a busy Mom.

John, are your fence post in concrete? One trick I use to pull the broken bit of post out is to put a large lag bolt or course thread I-bolt into it and pull it straight out of the ground. Sometimes I can just pull it out by hand or I will lever it out using a 2" x 4" over a tree round with a rope tied to the bolt. Sometimes you can use a wedge and with a couple of taps on all four sides to just break the post away from the cement it will slide right out and you can slide the new post right in and be done in no time. You can also do it if it is just in dirt. The best part is, that the new one is perfectly aligned and straight as soon as it is in the hole.

David, I hate shopping and one of the things I really love about my wife is she walks through the door of the store, goes directly to the thing she wants, grabs it, and is out of there. You should see how fast we get in and out of Costco with $400.00 worth of groceries. I will dump her out, go get gas, go park and she is almost at the checkout by the time I catch up to her.Yes

Lion, I am enjoying the photos of lions, keep'em coming. My favourite creature is the Orca, number two is the Grizzly. I have been fortunate to see both more times than I can count in the wild. When we would be fishing the Orca would come right up to the boat and say hi.

On one of the RR FB pages I follow, the guys have been posting lots of pics of water towers lately. There have been some really cool ones posted. We should have a water tower month sometime.

Did we ever ad Jan (Herringchoker) to the RIP track? He did say his final farewell a while back. The RIP wall will not load for me these days so I can't tell if he was added or not.

Spent two hours on the guitar this morning, time to go hop on the Deere and finish the grass-cutting detail.

The wife wants the pool up this summer. Didn't put it up last summer and it was a scorcher. It hardly gets used now the kids are gone, it holds 60,000 liters of water and nine bags of salt. It's nice on the hot days but not worth the work it takes to set up. The turtle pool was a much better deal for the kids.Laugh

The pool was used a lot when the kids were young so I guess it was worth it. With all the lakes, streams, and ocean within easy reach, I would never buy a house with a pool now. My cousin filled her inground one in once her kids left. Houses with pools lower house values here. I would much rather walk down to the lake for a dip. Or go scuba diving in the ocean.

Oh look! Ed's locomotive.

All the best to all.

Good evening Diners.   A Scotch, no ice please, Chloe.

A productive day today.   Cleared out some 'that willl come in handy someday' items with the assistance of my younger granddaughter.

Then we ran some trains.

She normally runs the locomotives at breakneck speed  and she did.

After a little while she took control and ran locomotives like I do into the Engine Shed.

An assistant in the making. Yeah

Good morning, everyone.  Just coffee for me right now -- it's donut day.

It looks like a perfect day outside today.

Kevin, I may need to visit you at work today.  In our backyard, we have a six foot high cedar fence, with 4x4 posts.  Last week, we had three days of wind that reached 65 mph.  One of the posts is broken at the ground.  I will need to dig it out and put in a new post.  This weather is perfect for work outside, not too cold or too hot.  I can't complain -- this fence is now thirty years old and still in good shape.

I'll try to check in later today when we get home.  Have a good Sunday, everyone.

Good morning Diners.  A full English and a tea please, Janie.

A sunny day this side of the pond.

Our younger granddaughter is with us this weekend.  She has asked if she can stay another day,  "It's so peaceful here,"  she says.

John (York)    I actually dislike shopping unless I am by myself.  With Dawn I find I am going round in circles.   Up and down the aisles just looking  and looking.  Not buying,  just looking.

Yesterday's shopping was mainly new clothes for me.  In the Mall  and out.  Laugh

Lion.  Loving the big 'pussycats'.  Thanks for posting.

Today we are doing a clear out of old clothes, 'old faithfuls'  and the like.

They needed someone to cover outside garden at work, I jumped on it. It was like heaven out there. Weather this good even makes work wonderful.

Dave, glad to hear you are ok after your shower mishap. When I was recovering from my prostate surgery I had a mat in the shower so I wouldn't slip. Would something like that help?

Hi CNCharlie,

Yes, it would. The shower has a 'non-slip' floor, but it obviously didn't work when there was a bit of soap on it. I have ordered some 3M self adhesive non-slip strips. They will be here tomorrow.

Rinsing the floor before I stood up would have helped too.Dunce

You know, there's a great idea for the June diner (seeing that May is already spoken for).  Could Jeffrey's Track Side endure the competition by rolling up to other famous track-side diners in North America??  We should ask Bear, Dave and our Aussie contributors what passes for them on other shores.   John

Good evening, just waiting for the hockey game to start.

It was a warm day today, started on the bike and was soaking wet after so went outside to pick up all the weeds I had pulled a couple of days ago and then cut the front yard.

Our very pregnant girl has got four days to go and is cooking away. She is such a cool dog.

The warm sunshine helped with the baking process.

The wife came home with a bottle of Rum and fine Whiskey. I haven't had a drink in about two weeks and have dropped five pounds. Booze will help fatten me up.Laugh

Ed, Charlie is right, a dog will keep the unwanted wildlife away, works for us. Get a puppy and it and the rest of the animals will be fine together.

Henry, sorry to hear your surgery has slowed you down, I went for X-Rays of my left shoulder and they showed I need to see the surgeon, I have been putting off making the call.Whistling

Hockey time.

All the best to all.

As for "Freight Station" Pizza, those of you there in Ulrichsville, OH will be disappointed.  Google reports them as permanently closed.

Yes, we have grab bars, but unfortunately I couldn't pull myself up. That was partly due to their position (or rather, my position) and the fact that my arms are totally out of shape.

Good Afternoon,

Cloudy day here but it is 7C or about 45F so not bad. Doing clean up under the feeders as the snow melts.

Ed, sounds like you need a dog. Rob had a Great Pyrennes as a guard dog to keep foxes away on his farm in Georgia. Our friends in Minnesota live on a quarter section and used to have foxes until the cayotes arrived. Feral cats disappeared too. They don't have any livestock. Long ago they had a couple of horses.

Dave, glad to hear you are ok after your shower mishap. When I was recovering from my prostate surgery I had a mat in the shower so I wouldn't slip. Would something like that help?

Ed, nice to see you back. That must be very frustrating, to have corrective surgery cause another major problem. Is nerve damage a typical risk ?

My wife postponed one appointment and will likely do the same for the dentist next week. It isn't an emergency and given the covid case rise right now, I think she should wait for this wave to subside.

Think I will bid on a PK2 shell for a GP9. It is CN green and gold. It is a lot easier to find a GP9 in a US road and usually a lot cheaper, so the grand plan is to buy the shell and wait for the right drive loco.  I need a project besides cleaning up the yard.

I saw that Bear posted a photo of lamb chops with mint sauce. That was my Dad's favourite meal. I like them too but my wife doesn't and refuses to cook lamb so it has been a long time since I've eaten any.

Time to check the feeders again. The flock of Redpolls is still here. We had about 200 in our back yard yesterday. Sure eat a lot for a tiny bird.

So, is your sister-in-law visiting to help clean your house, or is she visiting because someone else is cleaning her house and she hates the noise and the chemical smells?

Ah, yes, I should have been a little clearer there. My first wife's sister, Cindy, who I've known for fifty years now, has always done house cleaning and has made a pretty good business for herself. For years she has cleaned for my sister who passed away back in October of '19. Since then we've had Cindy clean for us in place of the work she would have done for my sister.

Works out well for everyone involved. No bad chemical smells when she's done. House smells wonderful until the first cat hacks up a hairball Whistling

I met Cindy through her husband who was also a volunteer on the 4070 locomotive crew back in the 1970s. Cindy had a younger sister Sandi. The rest, as they say, is history.

Cheers, Ed

Good morning, diners.  Bacon, eggs, and coffee, again, please.

It's turning into a nice day outside with a temp of 70°.  There was ice on the creek, but that is gone already.

Mike, those are great childhood memories of being with your father.  Those character-building experiences are what many kids are missing today.

Brent, with remote work becoming so common, your son someday might be able to live in Hawaii and work from there!  Wouldn't that be great.

Kevin, those war-gaming figures are great.  The miniature painting is amazing.  I always like seeing Mel's passengers cars with his painted figures.

Dave, glad to hear you didn't get seriously hurt with the fall.  I'm afraid if that happened to me, my wife would just tell me to lay there.

Henry, I hope you can post again soon.

Off to the local Mall for some retail therapy.

Every-so-often, I am required to go to the mall, but I call it torture, not therapy.

Ed, good luck with the fox.  They are pretty smart, and can usually get by any kind of system to stop them.

Lion, I have finally decided to get to hike Teddy Roosevelt Nat. Park this summer.  I have wanted to go for several years, and something always comes up.  I'm determined to get there this year.  I'm running out of years to do things like that.

MisterBeasley, we also have a family of foxes that live down in a draw near our house.  Foxes never used to live in our part of the country.  My father grew up about 60 miles from here, and he told me they never once saw a fox.  Now they are fairly common here.

This is a good day -- nothing to do but railroad work.  Pretty soon, the weather will be nice enough for me to concentrate on outdoor projects, so I have to enjoy layout work days like this.

I finished laying two mainline tracks, and I'm at the start of bridge construction.  I still have not laid any track for sidings or yards, but they can wait.  What I'm really excited about is that I'm getting out a couple of locomotives and letting them run the new tracks.  For me, this is about as exciting as life gets!

My sleep schedule is all caddywompus (that's a word, right?) since Thursday when my sister-in-law visits for a bi-monthly house cleaning. Normally I'm sound asleep at nine-am but every other Thursday I have to be out of bed by eight. Takes me a few days to get back on track.

I'm nervous about another spotting of the fox that has been hanging around here.

So, is your sister-in-law visiting to help clean your house, or is she visiting because someone else is cleaning her house and she hates the noise and the chemical smells?  After I retired, the ex-wife got in the habit of scheduling the cleaning lady at 7 AM.  I got in the habit of going to a local restaurant for breakfast, then stopping at the train shop or even just a hardware store.

We had foxes back then, too.  We had no chickens and no pets, but we did have groundhogs.  After a couple of years of foxes, no more groundhogs.  Now, the GF and I live in Delaware and we occasionally see a fox.  Most people know to keep their cats inside.  Our cats are rescues, and we figure from the host of parasites they showed up with that they spent some time wild and outside.  Now, they won't go out at all.

Good morning everyone. I was going to add Lox or Nova to my bagel this morning, but the price of that stuff is way up in this area. I guess I'll tell Chloe cream cheese only this morning. What, cream cheese is way up too? Maybe just butter on the bagel.

Chloe, I need coffee too.

I could have done that video, there is no need for you to do it.

Good (very early) morning —

My sleep schedule is all caddywompus (that's a word, right?) cattywampus since Thursday when my sister-in-law visits for a bi-monthly house cleaning. Normally I'm sound asleep at nine-am but every other Thursday I have to be out of bed by eight. Takes me a few days to get back on track.

 Fox-walk by Edmund, on Flickr

There have been times in the past where a fox will kill ten chickens at a time. They just kill, stockpile and kill again until they get tired or bored. I'm trying to keep all the cats indoors but that can be challenging for cats that are used to being outside.

Weather has been cold and rainy/sleety/snowy but with periods of sunshine in between. Hopefully I'll get back in the groove and get some time on the layout tonight.

Yesterday the case fan started growling on my desktop PC. It is a 2008 Dell. The fan has a guaranteed life of 120,000 hours. Well fourteen years is 122,640 so I guess I can't make a warranty claim. Amazon had a new fan at my front door (under $10) in less than eight hours. I have dozens of pancake fans around the shop and they're all either 80mm or 120mm. The fan I needed was a 92mm. Go figure.

I hope everyone with ailments gets on the mend soon Angel
